Harvey’s POV
Doomed.
We were all doomed!
I looked at the Alpha who was lying unconscious in one of our guest rooms then sighed sadly.
“Beta, what do we do with that Omega’s dead body?” Light asked softly behind me.
I turned and faced him seriously.
“We all witnessed a few hours ago how he walked into the pack house. Although he was dripping wet, he was badly crying and just by his pheromones, no one could approach him. He was emitting a death threat. So what do you think would happen if we touched his mate’s body?” I asked bitterly.
This was the first time I referred to that Omega as his mate because the actions he had portrayed were those of a male in love who had greatly suffered from loss and heartache.
I was feeling devastated and very scared for our lives. We were his childhood friends, but at the same time, we were also the very ones who had taken away his mate. Although he acted like that towards her, it was so clear to us now that he was bonded to her.
“But she’s dead,” he whispered as I swallowed hard.
“Light, if you are so eager to die, then please touch his mate,” I said seriously and then walked out of the room and stood close to the door as the warriors approached me.
They all looked terrified for their lives.
“Sir,” one called in a very low tone.
“Will we be banished?” The other asked with tears in his eyes.
“No,” I answered honestly as they sighed in relief.
“Our sins are far too great to be banished. I’m sure when he wakes up, he will have our heads. I suggest you run or prepare to die,” I said seriously.
“What?” They whispered together.
“He may have hated her back then, but the Alpha we witnessed today was one who we had never seen before. He won’t let it slide, that I know,” I answered as one warrior peed on himself. He was badly trembling.
“I never wanted a part of it, I never did,” another yelled at the top of his voice.
“Pointing fingers and yelling won’t bring her back. We all know that her heart isn’t beating anymore. I too regret the day I had threatened her. I wish I could turn back the hands of time,” I said with a dry throat then walked past them.
This was the first time I had seen Jace go through so much pain.
We didn’t want to follow him when he walked into the pack house because we were all scared, but then the scent of smoke got my attention and had me running to his bedroom.
There I found him lying on the ground unconscious with a badly bleeding nose. His forehead was sweating, and his veins were showing. The clothes were burning, and the fire was slowly spreading. If I had taken time to come through, he would have been in danger or dead!
I wasted no time in pulling him out of the room and mind-linked the others.
While some warriors were putting out the fire, Light and I carried him into one of the guest rooms and quickly put him down.
Light rushed out to summon a healer, as I rushed into the bathroom to wet a face towel and clean his bloody face.
I even took the liberty of taking off his bloody shirt. I couldn’t understand why he was bleeding so much through the nose.
Was it because of his loss?
That question went through my mind even when the pack healer came into the room and rushed to treat him.
It took her half an hour to finish her healing. She felt weak and asked me to summon Paul to be a part of what she wanted to say.
Paul came in looking low and stood next to me and Light.
The healer shook her head and then spoke.
“The Alpha’s wolf is in so much pain. What the Alpha is going through is nothing compared to what his wolf is going through. If this continues, I fear the Alpha may forever be unconscious,” she said and then continued.
“The only way for him to cope is by either going insane or inflicting physical pain on himself to swallow the pain of the heart. Losing our true Luna has not only pushed his mind into denial, his body is refusing to heal because of how his wolf is coping,” she said, shocking me.
“So you are saying that our Alpha might die!” Light asked in disbelief.
“Yes, if he won’t go insane or rogue,” she answered.
“Is there anything we could do?” I asked in fear.
“The only way the Alpha could go back to his old self is if our true Luna was alive,” she answered.
Paul quickly grabbed her hand.
“Please come with me, the Luna is in the other room,” he said and dragged her before she could respond.
I sadly looked at Light, then frowned. It was useless because she was already dead.
“Delta, I have no… fuck,” I cursed under my breath, then stumbled a bit when a hard punch landed on my cheek.
The scent of blood instantly filled my nose.
My wolf was silent and had his guard lowered because he knew that he had all the right to hit us. We were at fault in what had happened. As a Beta, I was supposed to be the Alpha’s shield no matter how messed up he was.
I was supposed to protect his mate even when he wanted nothing to do with her because whenever an Alpha lost his mate, they usually went rogue and insane. Only the strong-willed ones made it out alive.
Being rejected was one thing, although it hurt, none of the rejected party died; they survived and soon found a second chance mate if they were lucky. But having a mate die without rejection hit hard. The other party was in danger too if there was a bond formed between them.
A bond was when both of the partnered mates accepted each other, be it unconsciously or consciously.
Those that had no bond were okay too because some mates were already dead before they could meet them, while the others were meant to be mateless and alone forever.
Our Alpha’s situation was the worst, and it was going to be my fault if he died. That’s why I needed to find a way to get him back to his sanity.
“You disgust me,” Light whispered, then spat on the floor and walked out.
From then on, I had thought he was going to avoid me, but surprisingly he didn’t. We both went to check up on the Alpha because it had been hours and here I was.
As I walked outside the pack house, I could feel regret washing all over me.
