Chapter 74 The Romantic Lunch

Conrad furrowed his brow. “How did you get in here?”
Daisy felt a little flustered but also somewhat irritated. “Can’t I come in?”
Lillian can come in. Why can’t she?
“Don’t just walk into my office unless there’s something important. What do you need today?”
“It’s about the specialist, Conrad. Can we have lunch together?”
“Wait here.” Conrad slammed the door shut behind him.
Daisy was an idiot, and so was Lillian.
Conrad pulled out his phone and made a call. “Go, break Helen’s arm.”
Lillian had been sitting at her desk for a while when Jack sent her the information related to the movie. He still didn’t want her to quit the project.
As soon as Conrad left with Daisy, the office began to gossip.
“Miss Daisy was blushing earlier. She acted so feminine in front of Mr. Conrad.”
“Did you notice Mr. Conrad changed his clothes?”
“That was too quick, though. Mr. Conrad’s sex time shouldn’t be that short, right? Aha.”
Lillian suddenly snapped out of her daze and realized Conrad had already left.
She stared at the pile of documents on her screen but couldn’t focus on anything.
As Alice passed by Lillian’s desk, she sneered repeatedly. “Keep being arrogant, but you’ll never become Mrs. Conrad. Just wait and see how you end up. Homewrecker.”
Lillian never easily admitted defeat in front of others.
She smiled and replied, “Thanks for recognizing my charm and looks. Keep working hard in your next life.”
Alice’s smile froze, “We’ll see how long you can be so proud.”
“Don’t worry, I’ll always be one step ahead of you.”
After saying that, it was just about lunchtime, and everyone started heading to the cafeteria.
Lillian didn’t want to spend money eating outside, nor did she want to go hungry.
Besides, her big boss was already going to eat, so she figured she might as well see what kind of treatment the Brown Family Group’s cafeteria offered.
It was just the right moment to catch an elevator, and her colleagues seized the opportunity to gossip about Daisy.
“Wasn’t the engagement news announced before? Why hasn’t there been any follow-up?”
“Who knows about these big family alliances? We’re just office workers, and those deals are often worth hundreds of billions. I don’t even have that many reward points.”
“Sigh, Lillian, now that you’re with Mr. Conrad, do you know how things are between him and Miss Daisy?”
Lillian’s expression remained unchanged. “I’m not sure about my boss’s personal matters.”
Alice’s face turned ugly as she sneered, “You guys are asking the wrong person. What if she’s the one who actually wants to be the boss’s wife?”
In the past, Alice had been the young lady of the Pink family and Conrad’s personal assistant. Everyone had to pay attention to her.
Now, Conrad didn’t even give her a second glance, and she had become just another girl serving coffee and snacks in the break room.
Those who had been bullied by her before pretended not to hear. After all, who didn’t know that she was the one who most wanted to be the boss’s wife?
Conrad was rich and handsome, and even though his temper was terrible, there was no harm in fantasizing a little.
Seeing that no one responded, Alice’s face turned even darker. She needed to figure out how to get her dad to put her back into Conrad’s circle. Once that was done, she would deal with all these little bitches one by one.
However, Lillian never did get to finish her meal. Gordon called her.
“Where are you?”
“At Brown Family Group. What’s up?”
“No wonder I couldn’t find you anywhere on the cruise ship. Turns out Conrad took you away. Come downstairs.”
When Lillian reached the door, the car horn honked, and she walked over.
Gordon was sitting in the back seat with a driver in the front.
“Have you eaten yet?”
“Not yet.” Lillian wanted to show her gratitude, so she suddenly asked, “How about I treat you to a meal?”
“Sure, I’ll take you there. Let’s go.”
Lillian opened the car door and got in. “How’s your leg?”
“I can’t drive yet. I still need to rest. Once we’re upstairs, you’ll have to push me.”
“Don’t worry, I’ll make sure you’re safe.” Lillian raised three fingers in a vow.
Gordon grabbed her wrist and lowered her hand. “Don’t make promises so casually. It’s disrespectful to the gods.”
His palm was still wrapped in bandages, and after a brief touch, he let go immediately.
“Your hands are pretty small.”
Lillian raised an eyebrow. “Of course they are, considering how much taller you are than me.”
“Mm-hmm.” He knocked on the armrest with his other hand. “I saw Daisy earlier. Was she here to see Conrad?”
“Yeah, she’s here to have lunch with him.”
“Aren’t you from the film department? How did you end up working for Conrad?”
“I don’t have another job for now, so I’m just working here. Besides, the benefits at Brown Family Group are pretty good. If I get fired, there’s still employee compensation.”
The two of them exchanged pleasantries, but everyone knew that Lillian, still an undergraduate, would likely struggle to even secure a position at the front desk of the Brown Family Group. Conrad kept her by his side, not for any noble reason, but to claim her more closely, as a way of asserting his ownership.
When Lillian walked into the room, she should have sensed something was wrong, but unfortunately, her intuition wasn’t sharp enough.
It wasn’t until she realized Daisy had booked the entire restaurant and personally made lunch for Conrad-enjoying a romantic and cozy meal together-that she wanted to turn around and leave.
She instinctively glanced at Gordon, who had brought her here. But unfortunately, Gordon was sitting in a wheelchair, and all she could see was the top of his head.
Suddenly, there was an intruder in the restaurant. Irene was somewhat displeased and was about to step out to scold the person and tell them to leave, when she saw Lillian pushing Gordon’s wheelchair.
Daisy, seeing Irene standing there in a daze, felt annoyed but kept her face neutral. “What’s going on? Is it someone who accidentally wandered in?”
“It’s me,” Gordon suddenly spoke up.
Daisy stood up in surprise, and when she saw who it was, she smiled and said, “Mr. Gordon, what brings you here? Is your health better?”
She had heard that Gordon had been injured while racing on the mountain, and that his injury had some connection to Hunter. Daisy couldn’t find out more information, assuming it was just an accident.
“It’s getting better, just out for some fresh air. You two are having lunch, so how about we join you?”
Daisy walked over and linked arms with Lillian. “If I had known you and Mr. Gordon had a date, I would’ve invited you both earlier. But I only made two servings of my special lunch. Would it be alright if the other chefs made the rest?”
Lillian’s smile stiffened on her face. God knew, if she had known those two were here, she would’ve never come in.
Gordon didn’t mind. “Sure, I trust the chefs’ skills more.”
“Irene, please bring the head chef over. I’m not sure what Mr. Gordon’s tastes are. Lillian, do you know?” As Daisy helped push Gordon’s wheelchair over, she was surprised, “I really didn’t expect this coincidence.”
Conrad gave a half-smile, “Coincidence?”
“Isn’t it?!” Gordon retorted, then looked at the heart-shaped fried egg on the table, with a tomato face drawn on it. “Ugh, I feel like this love-filled lunch isn’t as good as what someone else used to make.”
Daisy wanted to ask who that “someone else” was, but she definitely wouldn’t.
In the past tense, that was something she shouldn’t waste time asking.
Lillian, on the other hand, was sweating bullets.
In the past, to please Conrad, she had studied cooking diligently. Every time Conrad brought his friends over, she’d be busy in the kitchen, whipping up dishes from all kinds of cuisines. She’d worked hard to perfect them, always making sure everything looked presentable.
But every meal she made for Conrad was a little special. She’d add some heart-shaped garnishes, and his friends would joke that Conrad was eating such adorable things now, proving that he was definitely changing because of a woman.
Conrad would always laugh and scold them to get lost.
“Mr. Gordon, this is my first time making it, so don’t make fun of me. I’ve been practicing for a long time. If you keep talking like that, you better watch out-Lillian might get mad and stop talking to you.” Daisy said this with a smile, turning to Lillian. “Right?”
Conrad glanced up at Lillian, still standing there. “What do you want to eat?”
“I almost forgot, the main dishes here are really good.” Daisy was busy introducing the specialty dishes.
Lillian steeled herself to sit next to Daisy, hoping the two men would sit together.
But then, the chair was suddenly kicked aside. Conrad sat down across from her, slowly saying, “How are you taking care of a disabled person over there? Sit here.”
Lillian looked and realized, to her surprise, it was the seat next to Conrad.
