“Then Miss Lillian said to Helen…”
Lillian couldn’t believe it. Conrad had somehow found bodyguards who could repeat her and Helen’s conversation word for word.
No wonder he’d assigned two people to follow her. If she wanted to put it nicely, they were there to carry her things. If she wanted to put it bluntly, they were just human surveillance, right?
Lillian remained silent, occasionally shooting Conrad a glare.
The bodyguard continued. “Miss Lillian spoke to six people today. Two of them came up to her when she was heading downstairs asking for her number. One was a college student, and Miss Lillian rejected him. The other was probably a local office worker.”
Lillian was speechless. Was there no such thing as privacy or freedom anymore?
Conrad, without batting an eye, ended the call and turned to her.
Lillian, irritated, said, “Mr. Conrad, can I have a little bit of freedom in my life?”
“Is it my fault the bodyguard has a good memory? I didn’t make him eavesdrop on your conversation.”
If he wasn’t eavesdropping, how did he remember everything so clearly and instinctively report it back to you? Lillian felt exhausted and was too tired to argue with this unreasonable man.
She turned to leave, but Conrad grabbed her and pulled her back, caressing her face.
“Does it hurt?”
Lillian turned her face away. “I’ve been through worse. It’s fine.”
“And your aunt?”
“Mr. Conrad, you know I’ve had a hard time today. Can I take a nap and calm down a bit?”
“Helen’s your mother?”
Lillian had been answering casually at first, planning to smile and please him so she could get through this with a nap and some benefits afterward. But when he asked, she couldn’t hold back anymore.
“Mr. Conrad, you must have gone through my file by now, right?”
At first, Lillian hadn’t known. It wasn’t until Hogan and the others came to Hillside Villa to play mahjong that she learned what had been going on. Lillian was serving drinks and preparing fruit when they asked Conrad why he chose her.
Hogan said, “Those guys were bragging to me last night, saying that Lillian was easy in bed with them, that she’s an easy girl, and all they needed to do was pay to get her.”
Conrad, still holding a cigarette, remained unfazed and replied, “Why are you even concerned? It’s not like I’m going to marry her.”
Hogan and the others had nothing to say after that.
Lillian had felt wronged and uncomfortable when people misunderstood her. After Conrad finished playing mahjong, she was still awake, waiting for him anxiously.
“You’re waiting for me instead of sleeping?” Conrad leaned against the door, raising an eyebrow at her.
Lillian grabbed the hem of her nightgown, speaking carefully. “Mr. Conrad, there’s something I want to explain to you.”
“What is it? Is there still family debt to pay off?”
“No! It’s… I’ve never had a boyfriend before you, and I’ve never slept with anyone else. I’ve only had you… I haven’t had any plastic surgery either. Everything about me is natural.”
Conrad thought she was going to say something else.
Wanting to tease her, he responded, “Oh, how do I know if your private parts are repaired?”
“No, I really didn’t…”
Seeing her on the verge of tears, Conrad flicked her face with his fingers. “Alright, enough. You get all worked up when I say a few things. I’m pretty sure I’m your first man.”
When Lillian realized he believed her, she followed him like a little tail. “Mr. Conrad, do you really believe me? You won’t just throw me away, will you?”
“I spent all this money to buy you, and then I’d just toss you aside? Do you think I’m that bad at business? Besides, I, Conrad, don’t take just any woman.”
At that time, she felt grateful. But once she realized Conrad’s obsessive control over everything, she found out that he had already investigated her thoroughly, knowing everything about her.
After Lillian said those words, the air around them seemed to freeze.
In reality, the bathroom was humid due to the steam from the hot water.
Conrad stared at her. “So, what exactly do you want to say?”
All the grievances she had been holding back rushed to the surface at that moment.
“I didn’t mean to say anything. Mr. Conrad, whether you found out early or late that she’s my mom doesn’t matter.”
“Lillian, what do you actually want to say? Do you want me to tell you that I brought Helen back not for you but for another woman? Or do you want to blame me for not bringing your mom back earlier to apologize to you?”
Lillian couldn’t even figure out what she was trying to say.
“I’ve never been one to explain myself. But Lillian, I’ll explain just this once. About the case that Helen is your mom, your dad hid it well, and I never fully investigated it. Helen was just one of the suspects. I had long since put it out of my mind, but after hearing the bodyguard’s account, I had to confirm it’s your mom.”
“Now, get out!” After Conrad spoke, he couldn’t be bothered to look at her and just ordered her to leave.
Lillian didn’t hesitate for a second. She walked straight out of the office and back to her workstation.
Almost immediately, the elevator door opened, and Daisy appeared in the office area.
Ford stepped out to greet her. “Hi, Miss Daisy.”
“I’ve ordered some snacks. Let everyone have some.”
“Thank you, Miss Daisy.” The entire office was eager to please the boss’s future Fiancee.
Daisy smiled in satisfaction as she walked in. When she saw Lillian sitting farther away, she nodded slightly toward her before raising her chin and leading Irene into Conrad’s meeting room.
“Won’t you take Miss to Mr. Conrad’s office?” Daisy didn’t usually speak up like this, but naturally, it was Irene who asked on her behalf.
Ford replied with composure, “Sorry, without Mr. Conrad’s permission, we’re not allowed to enter the office freely.”
But Daisy was insistent. “It’s fine, I’ll explain it directly to Conrad.”
With that, she pushed open the door to the CEO’s office.
As a future Fiancee, if she was still treated like just another guest, Pandora and the others would only look down on her even more.
The purpose of her visit today was to assert her claim.
Conrad came out of the shower wearing only a bathrobe and noticed that Lillian had bought a tie.
Remembering how upset she looked earlier, he opened the door and called out, “Lillian.”
But he got no response.
“Where is she?”
Daisy set her fashion magazine down. “Conrad, do you need something?”
She looked up, seeing the damp hair on his head and the taut black wolf tattoo on his arm, making her blush a little.
