Lillian spaced out for a moment, then casually said, “The more expensive something is, the more I love it. I don’t want cheap things, you know that. I’ve been spoiled since I was a child. I’m not that easy to satisfy.”
Conrad looked at her with a knowing look, understanding that her charm and obedience were always tied to something she could gain.
They both knew the deal – they got what they wanted from each other.
“Very well,” he said. “I have plenty of money, Lillian. You can be as spoiled and difficult as you want. I’ll take it as a little game. But don’t push my limits. If one day you end up falling in love with me… well, that would be a huge problem.”
Lillian smiled innocently, wrapping her arms around his neck. Her red lips parted slightly. “So, if I really fall in love with you, Mr. Conrad, will you let me go?”
Conrad twirled a strand of her hair. “If I let you go, I’d miss you. Destroying you might actually be a better choice.”
Lillian almost lost her smile.
A voice inside her screamed, wanting to grab the ashtray beside her and smash it over his head.
But she couldn’t do anything. She shrugged and said, “It’s okay. I’ve never had such extravagant dreams.”
She turned and moved away like a wisp of smoke. “The real luxury here, Mr. Conrad, is you. It seems like I’ll never get you, so I guess that’s that.”
She had just taken a step when he grabbed her wrist and dragged her back.
“Stop playing games with me. If it comes down to it, I’ll handle anything for you. But, you need to stay away from Gordon.”
Lillian knew exactly what kind of twisted control this man had.
He probably knew everyone she saw, everything she said. He would find a way to keep tabs on it.
“Mr. Gordon is surrounded by beautiful women. What do I count for? Mr. Conrad, have you lost your confidence now?”
“My confidence is mine, but you stay away from him, understand?” Conrad’s face darkened.
Lillian decided to back off. “Got it.”
The Smith family and the Brown family had business dealings with each other and were part of the same social circle. As for Gordon’s injury, aside from Hogan and the other friends, everyone else assumed it was due to Gordon’s reckless driving. Gordon’s parents gave him a severe scolding and forbade him from touching a car again.
But those who knew the truth understood that Gordon hadn’t appeared with Conrad in public for quite a while. If the two of them really fell out over Lillian, it would be embarrassing for everyone.
Conrad had indeed taken action against Gordon earlier, but after the Hunter incident, Conrad backed off. After all, friendships still had to be maintained.
Ford knocked and entered. “Mr. Conrad, here are the recent invitations that were filtered. How would you like to proceed with these?”
Conrad nodded, about to casually flip through the papers, when Lillian’s sharp eyes spotted a cruise party on one of the invitations.
She remembered her mentor Jack had mentioned that the world-renowned director Peter would attend, along with Simon King, the president of the King Family Group.
They had been hoping to hire Peter’s team for the special effects of their film, as they had the most authoritative and advanced technology. However, due to funding issues, they were still looking for investors. Jack had been running around trying to secure the deal, but Peter had been unmoved. In the end, it all came down to money.
Lillian’s eyes flickered. “Are you going?”
Conrad was puzzled. “You’ve never cared about these things before.”
“I’m not doing it on purpose. I just want to see the world,” she replied.
“See the world, or are you trying to get involved with your mentor’s movie?”
As expected, Conrad knew everything. Lillian didn’t want to argue with him about her privacy.
“You know I’ve been waiting for this movie for a long time. I won’t trouble you. After I get in, I’ll find Director Peter myself, okay?” Lillian tugged at his arm.
“I already have a female companion,” Conrad replied indifferently.
Lillian froze for a moment. “Who is it? Can’t you take me instead?”
“Be good,” Conrad said. His female companions were either actresses or partners from other companies. He had never publicly brought Lillian along.
“Really can’t?” she pressed.
“You know my rules.”
She wasn’t someone to be seen in public with, but she still wanted to go with him.
Lillian lowered her gaze and fell silent.
Conrad glanced at the food she brought and raised an eyebrow. “You bought this from the street and claimed you made it yourself?”
Seeing her expression, Conrad didn’t want to argue about it. After all, he didn’t keep her around to be his nanny or chef.
After eating a little, Conrad left work early and prepared to take Lillian home.
When they reached the bottom of the building, Ford opened the car door for them to get in.
Lillian was pulled into his arms. Her mind wandered as she thought about how to get the invitation. Who would Conrad’s companion be? Daisy, maybe?
The convoy quickly left the Brown Family Group building.
They didn’t notice that, in a corner where the security guard had blocked the way, Evelyn struggled to break free. The food box in her hand flew to the ground, spilling soup and dishes everywhere.
“Still calling yourself Mr. Conrad’s girlfriend? You’re overestimating yourself. Mr. Conrad’s fiancee is Miss Daisy, not some girl like you with no taste,” someone mocked.
“I’m really his girlfriend!” Evelyn yelled.
“Shut up! Get lost! If you make any more trouble, we’ll send you to the police!”
Evelyn gripped her skirt tightly, her fists clenched as she restrained herself from shouting in rage. She wanted to kill those who looked down on her.
Lillian!
It was all Lillian’s fault, the humiliation she suffered today came from her.
What a trick you played.
I’ll make you pay for this a thousand times over!
Evelyn staggered to her feet and grabbed her phone, calling Conrad over and over, but the calls wouldn’t go through.
Since that day, the only person she could contact to get any news about Conrad was Ford.
Ford always said the house was still available, and the money would continue to be paid. That’s when hope sparked inside her.
The treatment hadn’t changed; Conrad was still waiting for her apology…
With this thought, Evelyn gritted her teeth.
Lillian, it’s all because of you.
To get back in front of Conrad, she would do anything.
If Lillian could do it, she would work a hundred times harder to make it happen!
