61. Let’s thing be hidden

Book:Bought By My Brother's Best friend Published:2025-2-8

My eyes widened to the point of coming out of their socket because it was the thing that I was least expecting here.
The drawer was full of medicine. They are the same tablets that Grace used to give her, as they were prescribed by the doctors for her depression and health.
The drawer was almost full of those tablets, which means she had not taken even a single one in the last four months. She has been storing those medicine in this drawer while her brother thought that she was taking those medicines and they were working on her health, which was never bad.
She was doing drama all this time. She was wearing a fake mask of innocence and torment.
Everything that my brother told me was true. He is innocent and he was being made a culprit in the eyes of Ansell. But that reason is still unknown.
An intense surge of anger welled up within me, my fists clenching involuntarily around the tablets in my palms. I felt an overwhelming urge to unleash the fury that had been building within me and to challenge the injustice that had been perpetrated against an innocent man.
Most of the time, in such cases, girls are innocent but we forget that there are some evil girls like Desy who take advantage of this. After spending years in jail, it turns out that the man was innocent but until then, his life has already been ruined.
My gaze remained fixed on the tablets, a fire burning within me, when the door suddenly swung open, shattering the silence. My heart raced as I heard Desy’s voice, her question snapping me back to the present.
“Nara? What are you doing in my room?”
My head snapped to her and I saw her staring at my hands in disbelief. By the way, heat was emitting out my eyes, and I was sure that they had turned blood red.
She came running to me as I stood up. A few tablets slipped through my fingers, the sound of their impact shattering the silence of the room.
. Her expression darkened as she took in the silence before her and her her eyes caught the sight of tablets that had just slipped from my fingers. She was not looking happy with the discovery I had just made but I was not afraid even a single percent.
“You know that breaching someone’s privacy is a crime” she said out of frustration and I saw something else but red.
“So the one who spoiled so many lives will lecture me about the crime?” I asked her back. “Huh?” My voice was low but it had enough pain and anger.
“I haven’t ruined anyone’s life” Desy retorted, attempting to snatch the tablets from my grip. My fists were clenched so tightly that she couldn’t wrest a single tablet away. “it’s me who has endured suffering”
“Stop lying!” I shouted, my anger erupting like a volcano. She flinched at the force of my outburst. “I know everything! You have been pretending since the very first day. My brother is innocent! You have caught him in your web. He is suffering because of YOU!”
I took a step toward her. She licked her lips and took a step back.
“Why did you that? Why Desy? What do you get out of it?” I asked, my voice getting louder with every question, my frustration and anger driving me forward.
My shouts reverberated in the room, the tension so thick that I could almost taste it in the air. My veins felt like they were about to burst from force of my emotions and all I wanted to know was the truth. Even I was not sure what I would do if se told a single lie.
It hurt even more to know that because of her, I doubted my brother. She came as a friend to know but turned out to be the biggest enemy, the main reason for my and my family’s sufferings.
“Shouting will not change a thing” she said in challenging tone, “You are at my home so it is better if you keep your voice low”
“Yeah!” My head nodded. “I know I am at your home, but do you know who is the reason behind it? ” I asked her, “I ma here because of you, Desy!” I shouted once again, “I am not only forced into this cage but also made to do such things that I didn’t even imagine in my nightmare. And the only reason behind the havoc in my life is you ” I accused her. “How are you going to justify that?”
Her silence only intensified my onslaught. I continued, unable to hold back the torrent of my emotions within me.
“How did you sleep at night, Desy? How can you rest knowing you have torn apart so many lives?’ I asked, “How could you thrive on the tears of tears?”
“Nara, it would be better if you took hold of yourself and just calm down. The things are more complicated than you think. You don’t know the truth yet” she said.
. “Then tell me the truth!” I said, “I want to hear everything. The things that compel you to do all this and that your heart didn’t even shiver while ruining the life of my brother ” I asked her.
She stayed silent and gulped. I could see the inner struggle within her, the battle between the truth and her reluctance to admit it.
She knew that I was not going to back down until I didn’t know the whole thrust yet she couldn’t manage enough strength to tell the truth.
“It would be better if you keep the things hidden” she countered, a plea for silence in her words.
“No!” I shouted vehemently, my frustration reaching its peak. “You can’t keep the truth hidden any longer. My family and I are the ones who suffer in the shadows of that hidden truth. While you and your family revel in happiness, we are left to endure the consequences. I am not sitting quietly without knowing everything”
I was determined to know the entire story, regardless of the pain it might bring. And I also know that only she could tell me that.
She moved forward, her hands lifting up to rest on my shoulder, trying to make me sit on the bed but I squared my shoulder moving her hands away.
“Water, have water ” she offered.
“I don’t need anything from you, Desy. What I need is for you to tell me everything, or I’ll reveal the truth to Ansell ” I stated, my patience waning as everything was becoming too much.
“You won’t dare tell Ansell anything” she threatened, a flash of apprehension in her eyes.
This was the first time I saw passion in her eyes. Her eyes darkened just the way Ansell does when he is angry.
“Or what ?” My voice was tingled with defiance, and I took a step back, creating more distance between us. “What will you do, Desy? You have already shattered my brother’s life, and I am living in a nightmare because of you. What more can you possibly do?” I asked her, “will you make one more story to make your brother punish me just the way you did to my brother? But let me tell you one thing, you haven’t ensured anything for which you have received sympathy. Your brother already has so many things to me that I am not afraid, even if he takes my life “. She was looking completely shocked and scared, as she was not expecting me to burst in such a manner.
I know I was getting out of control and Desy was clearly scared seeing this side of mine but she still didn’t lose her temper, completely opposite to my current state.
“You want to get out of here? X she asked but I stayed silent. “I promise I will help you out. Ansell will not chase you but you would have to promise that you will stay out of this case and let things go just the way they are going ”
“No!”
The force of my outburst echoed in the room, and I could feel the strain in my own voice shouting so loudly. The shout was so loud that I am sure it must have reached every room of the house.
“I won’t leave now. I don’t want to go anywhere, anymore. I will stay right here until I uncover the entire truth” my voice quivered at the end.
I have always been the kind of person who prefers peace. Even in court, I always kept my Voice low and placed my side firmly while maintaining decorum, even in the most heated situations but at the moment I was actually losing my mental balance.
“I understand your outburst, Nara. I would also have reacted the same way if I were in your situation but you have to calm down and understand that the way you are helpless in the hands of Ansell, I am also helpless in the hands of someone else. If the truth comes out, many lives will come to end. It will create more havoc ”
My eyebrows drew together as I tried to understand her words. When she was talking, it seemed like someone was approaching the door but my focus was on listening to her.
“Create havoc?” The question came out low. “Our lives are already havoc!” I shouted once again, feeling adrenaline rushing through my veins.
But she stayed silent and it was my limit for tolerating her.
“Desy, either you are telling me the truth or I will tell everything to Ansell” I threatened her and I could see the fear in her eyes.
“Nara you will…”
She moved forward, trying to make me understand but I was too determined to listen to her. Before she could say anything, her words were cut short by a deep, authoritative Ansell’s voice, what drained the colour of her face.
“What’s happening here?”
