CHAPTER ONE-HUNDRED AND THIRTY-TWO
BURKE’S POV
I stared at the ceiling, still thinking about the fact that I was going to get married to Harley today and not Catherine.
“Fuck Catherine, you still have me wrapped around your fingers,” I lamented, feeling the mate bond and it was getting stronger every damn time.
I stood up from my bed, reluctant to go to my wedding, there was no excitement, nothing made me want to get married today, except for Emma.
Soon I heard a knock at the door and I assumed it was the maids coming to dress me for the wedding, they dress me for special occasions though, and the wedding isn’t special to me, so ill prefer dressing by myself.
“I am not ready to get dressed, come again some other time,” I groaned out loud, running a hand through my hair.
“It is me and not the maids, Burke, open the damn door,” Ava yelled, knocking loudly.
I heaved a sigh before going to open the door.
“What are you doing here Ava? Are you trying to change my mind?” I asked, sarcastically, as I opened the door for Ava to come in, I remembered how Ava tried to convince me not to marry Harley a few days back.
“Get the fuck out of my way, I’m not here to do that,” Ava said, shoving me aside and walking into the room.
“Then what are you here for, because I know you aren’t here to congratulate me, you are against the union,” I said, shutting the door.
“I was against the union a few days ago and I’m against the union now,” she confessed, drawing my dressing dress out and sitting on it.
“Ava, I don’t care what you say, or what you think, today I’m getting married to Harley and our blood will be used to cleanse the pack from any wolf’s syndrome,” I replied to her, as I sat at the edge of my bed, trying to listen to my sister.
“You aren’t going to get married to Harley, all you want to do is to save Emma, and guess what? Harley is the reason Emma has the syndrome,” She announced and I scoffed at her, Ava would do anything she had to do to get what she wanted from me, but I never knew bearing false accusations was among them.
“You come in here with proof and point accusing fingers at Harley, my wife-to-be? Have you gone mad?” I yelled and the shock in Ava’s eyes was undeniable, she never thought I would yell at her because it was Harley.
“You don’t love this woman but you would believe her side of the story more than mine?” she said, sounding hurt and sad, but that isn’t any of my fault.
“I don’t love Harley, but she is going to be my wife and I will protect her with all I have,” I confessed to Ava and she looked at me with sad eyes.
“What about me? Am I second-rated in your heart now?” she asked, feeling hurt and looking hurt. I swallowed hard before speaking. I don’t want my sister to think she is second-rated in my heart, my heart is big enough for everybody.
“Come off it Ava, you aren’t second-rated in my heart, you know I love you, with all of my heart,” I said and she smiled at me.
“Then listen to what I have to say about Harley if you think it is a lie, then you go ahead with the wedding, I will give you my full support,” she said and I nodded my head, giving her a go-ahead, still smiling at me.
“I did my research and I found out that Harkey brought the wolf’s syndrome to Emma so that you would marry her,” Ava explained and it sounded vague.
“The witches brought the syndrome to the pack, Ava and it was in the air, it wasn’t something we could see. How was Harley able to capture the air and give it to Emma? I asked, looking at her dumb face as she searched for what to say.
“No…it is more complicated than that,” she stuttered, making me want to burst out in laughter but I didn’t because this was a serious issue.
“If you can’t explain the complication, then there is no issue, Ava, now go and get ready for my wedding,” I commanded and she was reluctant to go.
“I am telling the truth, Burke please believe me,” She yelled and I rolled my eyes at her again, getting exhausted
“Ava leave my room,” I ordered and she looked at me with hurt in her eyes.
“Stop, Burke…”
“Now,” I yelled, interrupting her, she got up from my chair in anger and headed towards the door.
“Wait,” I called out as Ava was about to open the door.
“What is the problem? Do you believe me now?” she asked, turning around with assurance that I would believe her.
“No I don’t believe you, I just want you to try and make up with your best friend, I mean, she is going to be Luna soon,” I reminded her and she stormed out of my room angrily.
I was left alone in the room, trying to get prepared for a wedding I didn’t want to go to.
“Hey Dad,” Nikky’s voice startled me, I didn’t know when she came into the room.
“For the love of the moon goddess, Nikmg don’t do that again,” I warmed, holding my chest, because I was still frightened.
“I wouldn’t guess that an Alpha would be scared and almost shit on his pants because of a little girl,” she scoffed at me.
“I didn’t see you enter, an Alpha is not a freaking god,” I sneered at her, which made her chuckle.
“Why are you here? To tell me that I should not marry Harley, let me save you the stress, I am going to get married to Harley and I know it’s wrong, but as you grow up you will know why I did it,” I said and she burst into a round of laughter, like I just cracked some joke or something.
“What is funny?” I asked confused but she didn’t give a reply, rather she continued laughing hard.
“That was a damn speech, but you are the wrong dad, I’m not here to discourage you about Harley,” She confessed, still choking on her laughter.
“Then why are you here?” I asked, with confusion, written all over my face.
“I am here to congratulate you, Dad,” She said, still smiling, just like her mother.
“Okay, I’m listening,” My voice sounded very excited.
“Congratulations Dad, you deserve the best,” She said, and a grin came to my face immediately.
“Thank you, Nikky, that means a lot to me,” I said, still grinning from ear to ear.
“You are welcome and I have a wedding gift for you,” she announced and I looked at her surprised.
“This is something creepy, but where is the gift? I would love to see it,” I said and Nikky chuckled.
“It’s a surprise,” she said, then left the room, leaving me to wonder what this surprise was about.
“What is Nikky up to?” I asked myself.
