CHAPTER ONE-HUNDRED AND EIGHTEEN
CATHERINE’S POV
Nikky kept arranging my clothes like she didn’t hear what I said.
“Did you hear me, Nikky? I want to fight and not run,” I yelled, and my stomach pain increased, making me groan.
“I want to fight too, but this isn’t the right time,” Nikky yelled, she was done packing the clothes, and El and I were not ready to leave the house.
“When is the right time after Harley succeeds in getting Burke to marry her?” I asked, and Nikky’s face fell flat like it had already happened.
“Burke and Harley are getting married in the next two full moons, Catherine,” El broke the nutshell, confirming my earlier assumption.
My heart felt heavy, and I felt betrayed, or rather, I was betrayed by Burke.
“That son of a bitch, I thought he loved me,” I said, sitting back on the bed, heartbroken.
“He loved you, but things are more complicated now,” Nikky said, taking sides with her father. I am sure she is ignorant of what he did seven years ago, after getting me pregnant.
“Are you taking sides with your father? After all he put me through?” I yelled at Nikky with pain in my voice.
“Is not what you think mum… ”
“And you aren’t even denying it,” I interrupted her, with anger in my voice.
“It is not that personal,” Nikky yelled back, throwing out luggage of clothes to El, who just stood there speechless, not knowing who to take sides with.
“Burke got me pregnant and left me to fend for myself, seven years later he kidnapped me and brought me back to the pack forcefully, and confessed love to when I finally agreed to marry him, I was confirmed dead, my body would not have been cold in the grave when he turned his back on me and chose the woman who screwed me over countless times to take my place as his wife and you stand there and tell me this isn’t personal,” I yelled, as tears fell from my eyes uncontrollably and anger filled my voice.
“It’s personal, Nikky, and I’m coming back for all of them,” I said before Nikky could give a response to my statement earlier.
“I’m sincerely sorry for siding with him, Mum, but Daddy was manipulated and has been manipulated the whole time,” Nikky said, coming closer to me, but I could barely see her because my vision was blurred with tears.
“Burke loves you, Catherine, but he was forced to marry again because the pack had a syndrome that can kill the wolves; Harley and Ava brought the Syndrome into the pack to manipulate Burke into getting married,” El chimed in.
Ava and Harley would stop at nothing until they get what they want, but what do they want? Because this can’t be only about getting married fi Burke.
“I don’t know what happened before I was born, but I know Daddy almost killed himself when you were confirmed dead. He doesn’t love Harley, but he feels like getting married to her is the best because she has the people at heart,” Nikky said, and my anger subsided.
I felt a load lift from my heart, at least Burke found it hard to get over me.
“What do Harley and Ava want? This is far from just making Burke get married to Harley; they have many murders in their hands,” I asked, helping Nikky pack; if she says it is not the right time to strike, then it isn’t.
“Ava wants to be Alpha, and Harley wants to be Luna, which might not work out because we would stop them,” Nikky replied to my question as we finished packing our stuff.
“It’s already noon, Nikky, how did we leave without being caught?” I asked, rolling my eyes.
The guards are always active at night, preventing Vampires or witches from coming into our pack; if we pass them, they would know El is a witch and also find out I’m alive.
“I knew this, that’s why I brought this along,” Nikky said, dangling my car keys in the air.
“Where did you get my car keys from?” I asked; Ina chuckled as she continued dangling the car keys in the air.
“I took it from the house before it burnt down,” She announced excitedly.
“That is fucking brilliant; you are your mother’s daughter,” I complimented, still throwing some compliments at myself.
“Yes, I know, and I’m driving,” Nikky blurted out; she knew I would kick against it, so she held the car keys correctly.
“You can’t drive, Nikky, you are still six,” insaidz trying to take the car keys from her hands but she held onto it firmly.
“I’m seven mum,” She remembered me, not ready to let go of the car keys.
“Regardless, you still can’t drive, especially under my watch,” I scolded, but she sneaked her way out of the room, carrying a luggage of clothes across her shoulder.
“Watch me drive, under your watch,” Nikky said, and I thought it was bluffing till I heard her gear the engine back to life.
“She is out of control, don’t look at me,” El said, as I gave her a stern look, because Nikky has grown so much courage since she started staying with El. I loved the courage but sometimes it gets on my nerves.
“Just get the stuff. Let’s get into the car,” I said, as we left the room carrying a bag of clothes and leaving the remaining properties in the room. I wanted to know if someone was there.
“You got some nerves, young lady,” I scolded, entering into the passenger’s seat with El, behind me.
“You sound like dad and yes, I grew some nerves thanks to El,” She said, trying to implicate El, who was trying to stay out of it.
“I think I should say thanks to you, El; you made my daughter disobey my order,” I said sarcastically, and El smiled at me.
“Thank you so much, Catherine; you don’t know what your appreciation means to me,” She said, blushing, ignorant about the fact that my appreciation was Sarcastic; I just rolled my eyes at her.
“Are you already ’cause I’m about to drive like we have got mine lives,” Nikky said excitedly as she held the steering wheels firmly.
“Are you sure you want to drive? Because of any slight mistake, I am knocking at Death’s door,” I reminded Nikky, and she rolled her eyes at me.
“Just trust me,” She grumbled as he switched on the headlight, and we saw a man standing in front of the car with a gun in his hand.
“What the fuck and who the hell is that?” I lamented although I wasn’t afraid.
“We just got caught because that’s Diago and he works with Ava,” Nikky said, swallowing hard.
