CHAPTER ONE-HUNDRED AND SIXTEEN
CATHERINE’S POV.
Nikky kept pacing around the room angrily, making us feel like betrayals, but we didn’t betray her; rather, El and I tried to help me.
“Why are you angry, huh?” I yelled, arranging the spell book back on the shelves while El sat on the bed, not wanting to get involved in the conversation.
“I was away for only two days, trying to make sure we are in the clear from Harley and Ava and you guys go behind my back to do the very thing that I am against, and you stand there to ask me why I’m angry,” She yelled, still walking around the room aimlessly.
“Watch your tongue, Nikky; I’m your mother,” I scolded her, waving a warning hand at her, which she rolled her eyes at.
“Can you remember that I am your daughter?” She asked, and I fell silent because I could not recall her being my daughter; I had just figured out her last name.
“I thought as much since you can’t recall me being your daughter, you have no right to call yourself my mother, Catherine,” She yelled, her words stung me hard, but I swallowed back my tears.
“Did you know why I wanted to do this desperately and get my memory back?” Inakse with a shaking voice, still trying hard not to cry.
“No, and I don’t give a shit about your reason,” She said, coolly as she rested her back on the wall.
“You would, because you are the reason I want my memory back, I wanted to remember the day I had with you, but you look me in the face and say I’m not your mother,” I stated, with my voice filled with pain, her words had hurt me so much that I was in the middle of crying.
“I didn’t mean that, but you went behind my back and told El to help you with the spell after I bluntly refused you,” She said, looking to the ground; she couldn’t look me in the face because she had just hurt my feelings deeply.
“I met El because you bluntly refused to help me after calling me a burden. Have you forgotten about that?” I yelled as tears fell from my eyes; I couldn’t hold it any longer.
“Firstly I didn’t call you a burden and secondly, the spell would kill you, El told you there’s a fifty percent survival rate, but when I looked through it there isn’t, once your memory is triggered too much, you are going to die,” Nikky explained, still looking at the ground.
“Why didn’t you tell me that?” I asked, swallowing hard.
“I didn’t tell you because I felt there’s no use, and El would never want to cast the spell, and even if she wants to cast the spell, she would let me know, and I’ll stop her,” Nikky said, looking at El sternly.
“I tried to discourage Catherine but her mind was made up already,” El said, raising her hand in surrender.
“Then you would have told me, why could you do things behind my fucking back and expect me to be happy about it,” Nikky yelled, pushing some of the blame onto when it is not her fault.
“Leave her out of this, Nikky; I forced her to help and guess what the fucking spell didn’t work because she can’t perform magic again,” I yelled t Nikky, who just shrugged her shoulders in response.
“I’m sorry… ”
“No, you aren’t sorry; you are happy the spell didn’t work. Don’t act like you pity me, Nikky,” I retorted, and Nikky rolled her eyes at me.
“Yes, I’m happy it didn’t work, and I expect you to be happy as well, because you would have died if it worked,” Nikky yelled, but I didn’t give her a response.
“What is the use of being alive if I don’t know who I am, or where I’m from?” I asked, yelling that I was scared my voice would blow off the roof.
“You know you are a doctor in Chicago; you know Jaxon was once in your life; you know what Harley did to you; you figured I was your daughter,” Nikky said, trying to console me.
“And you also figured that Burke is Nikky’s father,” El added, smiling at me.
“She did that? You are almost close to gaining your memory, Mum. Don’t rush the process, please; I don’t want to lose you again,” Nikky pleaded, placing her palms together.
“I won’t say I love you because we don’t have much history, but we are about to kick the asses of the girls that did you wrong, why don’t you think about that before doing something stupid,” El added, standing up from the bed.
I picked up a spell book from the shelf and looked into it, before looking at Nikky again.
“Say something, Mum, you are getting me scared,” Nikky said, as my silence was taking too long.
I still gave them a response and kept reading the spell book before El snatched it out of my hand.
“You need to say something so we will know you are still with us. Don’t forget that your pack needs you, Burke needs you, and your children need you,” El said, and my eyes widened.
” Children?” I asked, wanting to be sure I heard right and El nodded her head.
“We are triplets, Mum, Nikky, Ricky, and Dikky,” Nikky said, with tears in her eyes. I didn’t like to see her like that.
“I hate it that I don’t have the lovely memories of my kids, my lover, and if none of you want to help me with casting the spell, I’ll kill myself,” I said, grabbing the knife on the table and raising it.
“I saved you to keep you alive, don’t do a fucking thing you would regret,” Nikky yelled, with tears in her eyes as she tried to use her magic to get the knife off my hand, but she was too heartbroken to do that.
“Catherine, be reasonable, don’t do that,” El yelled, but it was too late as I stabbed myself in the stomach and blood gushed out of my mouth.
“Mum… ” Nikky yelled and that was the last thing I heard before I blacked out.
