CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND FIVE
CATHERINE’S POV
“Is she dead?” Nikky asked; not feeling bothered, we stared at Harley and her guard on the floor.
I checked their pulse and breathing rate; they were alive and not even injured. I glared at Nikky, and she rolled her eyes at me again.
“What, they were going to raise the bed and catch us anyway; I thought you would be telling me a thank you and hugging the shit out of me because you both of you are sorry asses,” She explained, giving a reason for knocking Harley and her guard down using her powers.
“If I had known you were practicing the magic of the mind to knock off Harley and her guard, I would have stopped you because it is a bad fucking idea,” I yelled, getting up after confirming that they weren’t dead.
“They would have caught us anyway; I did what I was supposed to do; if she had seen us, she would have killed you immediately,” Nikky told me without feeling remorseful about her stupid move.
“We are fucking exposed, Nikky. Do you think Harley would not know you used magic on her? You are wrong. Harley knows that feeling because she is of a witch’s descent; she has the blood of a witch, but she doesn’t perform witchcraft because she doesn’t practice,” El said sternly, looking at Harley lying on the floor with shock in her eyes.
I could tell that El cared about Harley, I didn’t know why and didn’t even give a shit about it.
“You care about Harley, but newsflash, she doesn’t give a shit about if you are alive or dead, and besides she would think you used magic on her and not me,” Nikky yelled, walking to the table in the middle of the room, which had a bottle of orange juice.
She poured the orange juice into a glass cup and started sipping from it.
“Harley knows I was stripped of my powers, I can’t practice magic, I can’t remember any spell and she knows that, so newsflash, young lady, we are exposed,” El said, with anger still in her eyes and she didn’t deny the fact that she cared for Harley, curiosity took the better part of me and I spoke up.
“Why do you care about Harley? She just tried to kill you and would do it again if she gets the chance,” I said, licking my lips.
“I care about you, Catherine. Do you want to know that?” El asked, not taking her eyes off me for even a bit.
“Yes, that’s true; why do you care about me?” I asked because not every stranger would just take my child and me in, take care of me, and is willing to fight my fucking battles even if it cost her life.
“I don’t know, Catherine; that is who I am. I am a fucking caregiver, and I don’t want to change from being that anytime soon,” She said sternly.
“Even when it gets you bitten in the ass very hard, and been hurt all over?” Nikky questioned, still sipping from her glass of orange juice.
“Even when it gets me bitten in the ass very hard and hurt all over, I’ll still be a caregiver; it’s who I fucking am,” El groaned at Nikky as she took her usual seat beside the bed.
“Instead of blaming ourselves, we could sneak them out of the coven, and Nikky would wipe their memory, so they won’t be able to remember what happened here,” I said, and Nikky smiled at me.
“I can wipe their memory, mummy,” Nikky said, turning her gaze to El.
“I hope that’s a figure of speech because I didn’t want that to happen,” I said, trying to get some assurance from Nikky as she burst into a round of laughter.
“Of course, it’s a figure of speech. Are you five moons old? Because a toddler would know it’s a figure of speech,” She said, still laughing.
“I am not five, but if I can recall, you said you are seven, and I’m your mother. You will wipe that smile off your face and help me out,” I scolded, and Nikky reluctantly dropped the glass of orange juice on the table and gave me a helping hand.
I placed Harley and her guard on my shoulders without stress; I’m a werewolf, after all.
“We have to be discreet; witches like snooping in business that aren’t theirs,” Nikky said as we walked out of the hut.
The pack was just a few miles away, and we walked there. Within ten minutes, we were already at the Crescent pack.
“She is heavy, damn it,” I muttered, dumping them on the floor.
“Make them forget what happened back at the hut,” I instructed, breathing heavily.
“I did that when we were almost here, don’t tell me you didn’t notice,” Nikky said, looking at me like I was stupid.
“Of course I noticed; I’m a witch, have you forgotten,” I scoffed at her angrily.
“You don’t have to be a witch to notice when a witch casts a spell; you are a smart mum; I hate it that you can’t remember this lady kidnapped you,” She said, kicking Harley’s leg.
“Ouch, my head,” I lamented, holding my head tightly, trying hard to reduce the pain that was coming from my head.
Everywhere was spinning around, and I could hear Nikky scream my name. I tried casting a spell to reduce my pain, but it was useless; she had already triggered me.
I think I fell unconscious because, by the time I opened my eyes, Nikky was crying and looking at me.
“I’m sorry, mum, I didn’t know it would trigger you; please do not leave me,” She said, as she rested her head on my breast, socking my shirt with her tears.
“I’m fine, Nikky; I’m not going to leave you,” I assured, and she raised her head immediately, wiping the tears from her face.
“You got me, scared, Mum; I’m sorry I triggered you,” She apologized, still crying.
“Don’t be sorry because I think I know when Harley kidnapped me” I said, looking at her big round eyes, which looked exactly like mine.
