CHAPTER SEVENTY-EIGHT
CATHERINE’S POV
Burke was shocked by what I said; he came to meet me and grabbed me by the waist, drawing me closer to him.
“Don’t use that as a threat please,” He whispered into my ears.
“I didn’t mean I’ll leave the pack; I meant I’ll leave to the house that is designed for me; I’ll be staying in till we get married,” I assured him, almost chuckling.
The room was quiet for some time, as Burke rested his head on my shoulder, not wanting me to leave. It made me chuckle.
“You can let go, Burke,” I broke the silence, giggling at his reluctance to release me.
He finally released me from his grip, but his hands still encircled my tiny waist, he wore a plain look on his face.
I brushed the hair on his forehead backward, although it still fell on his forehead back.
“I didn’t know you would hate the wedding dress to the extent of tearing it into shreds. I’m sorry for overreacting; I just felt heartbroken you didn’t like it. I thought it was your taste in fashion,” He apologized, looking down at me.
“I didn’t tear the damn wedding dress, Burke,” I said, almost yelling.
Burke removed the strands of hair blocking my vision and placed it behind my ears. He raised my head, and I could see anger in his eyes, ready to devour the person who tore my wedding dress.
“Then who did? I’ll lock the person up in the north Turret,” He threatened.
I know Burke to be a man who acts on his threat, although today, he won’t.
“You won’t do that Burke, so just forget it,” I said, shoving his hands off my face and sitting at the edge of our bed.
He sat beside me and placed his hands on my thighs, grabbing it gently, and then patting it.
“Tell me who and see what I’ll do,” He threatened.
“It’s your sister, Ava tore my fucking wedding dress, what are you going to do about it?” I asked angrily, knowing he wouldn’t do anything about it; he loved his sister too much.
I’m not against him loving his family, but he doesn’t see her wrongs; even when she pushed our daughter, he didn’t scold her; if he did, she wouldn’t have torn my wedding dress. Ava does these things to me because she will always go free.
“Ava won’t do that, She said you tore it yourself,” He defended his sister, as always.
“Burke, let me get this straight; if Ava accuses me, she is right, but if I did that, I’m lying. You are unbelievable,” I yelled, and Burke kept me quiet.
“Ava told me I’m not supposed to be your bride, that Harley is supposed to be the person marrying you, and you know how much Ava likes Harley, but if you think I’m trying to turn you against your family, you can call off the wedding,” I continued ranting angrily, knowing that if Burke decides to call off the wedding I won’t be fine with that.
“Don’t say that again, Cathie; I’ll deal with this,” he said, standing up on his feet.
Before I could say a word, he stormed out of the room banging the door behind him.
“Should I go after him?” I asked myself.
Without much thinking, I followed Burke behind him and we ended up in Ava’s room.
And without knocking, Burke stormed into Ava’s room.
“What the fuck happened to knocking Burke? I’m a grown-ass woman, and I need privacy,” She yelled at Burke as she got off her bed.
She walked towards Burke before noticing I was standing behind him. I saw fear in her eyes, but she decided to act bravely.
“Who tore Catherine’s wedding dress?” Burke asked, ignoring Ava’s earlier comment, and silence took over immediately.
“I won’t ask again who tore Catherine’s wedding dress,” He yelled, and this time Ava felt uncomfortable.
“I… I did,” She said, stammering, giving me a wicked side-eye.
Burke looked at him with a perfectly arched eyebrow. His look was intimidating, and Ava wasn’t comfortable with it in a different circumstance. She would pee on herself.
“Why did you do that? And why did you accuse Catherine of the crime you committed?” Burke asked further, and I felt butterflies in my stomach; for the first time, Burke was standing up for me to his sister.
“It’s not a crime, Burke, and besides, She isn’t right for you; Harley loves you,” Ava grumbled, even if she was frightened and her hands were trembling.
“You don’t know the woman good for me; Catherine is going to be your Luna in a few moons from now, so you must respect and obey her; is that understood?” Burke yelled at her with authority in his voice; Ava’s eyes were filled with terror.
“Now, apologies to your Luna,” He ordered, and Ava gave me a dead stare. She opened her mouth to talk, and tears were welling in her eyes, but she didn’t want to shed tears, so she doesn’t appear weak.
“I won’t repeat myself,” Burke threatened, as Ava failed to say a word.
“I’m sorry, Catherine, it won’t happen again,” She said, and with that, Burke stormed out of her room, leaving Ava and me in the room.
Although he didn’t take her to North Turret or put her in jail, scolding her was enough for me. I didn’t want to break their family bond; I just wanted her to respect me.
“Are you happy now, you just turned my brother against me,” She said, folding her hands under her breast.
“I didn’t, Ava; you were wrong for tearing my wedding dress,” I retorted.
“This is your time, but you better watch your fucking back,” She whispered into my ears, making me shiver down my spine.
“Who the fuck are you?” I asked, not sure if I was still talking to Ava.
“I’m your arch-enemy,” She replied with a wicked smile. When the fuck did Ava hate me this much.
I was still standing in shock when a knock from her bathroom interrupted us.
“Are they still there, baby?” I heard a masculine familiar voice call from the bathroom.
Ava looked at me in shock, to see if I’ll remember the voice, and then my brain clicked.
“Is that Jaxon in your fucking bathroom?” I asked in shock.
