CHAPTER FORTY-FIVE
BURKE’S POV
I rushed to where Catherine was, and I saw the cut in her stomach; Catherine was bleeding profusely.
“Catherine, can you hear me?” I asked in a whisper, and she opened her eyes a little; a weak smile came across her lips.
“She isn’t alone, Burke; she is working with someone,” She said weakly as I removed the mask I had on.
“Shhh,” I said, putting a finger to get lips, she was too weak to talk.
“Hold in there for me, I’ll have you have of her but first I need to get rid of Harley,” I said, and she smiled in return, a weak smile. My heart broke seeing Catherine like that.
Harley had stabbed her in her stomach, and the cut was deep like Harley had done it numberless times.
“Take good care of yourself, and please promise me you will be fine,” I said, still holding Catherine tightly to my chest.
“I will be fine Burke, just don’t let Harley escape,” She said weakly, barely in a whisper. And I nodded my head in response.
“Promise me Harley would pay for this,” Catherine asked.
“I would do better than a promise,” I said carrying her pinky finger and wrapping it with mine.
“I swear it,” I said and Catherine nodded in response.
I carried Harley to a corner where I was certain, a gunshot hit her, and no one would fire at her.
I kissed her on her forehead before bidding her goodbye.
I walked discreetly into Harley’s office, but it was empty, I was certain she came into this place after stabbing Catherine.
The room looked very old, with a dusty table, and in the middle, there were no chairs around.
Suddenly, I heard the door close and Harley standing by the door, it appeared that she had been hiding behind the door all along.
“Fuck me,” I cursed under my breath before raising my hands above my head because she had her gun pointed at me.
“I knew you were suspecting me; that was why I wanted to kill her before you found out,” She said, walking towards me, but I started walking backward, not because I was afraid, but because I needed to get out of here and save Catherine.
“If you wanted her dead, why didn’t you use a gun to blow her head off,” I retorted, and Harley gave me a sarcastic laugh.
“That was the initial plan, but I wanted her to suffer before she dies; shooting in the head is a quick death; I wanted her to receive pain before she dies,” Harley said, and I was surprised by the hate she had towards Catherine. Catherine had never done anything wrong to her.
“Why the fuck do you hate her? She hasn’t done anything wrong to you, has she?” I asked angrily, patiently waiting for my guards to show up.
“She has done everything bad to me; she spoilt my plan; I didn’t want to kill her initially, but she is too smart, and she guessed who I fucking was,” Harley yelled, and a proud smile came across my lips; Catherine was fucking smart.
“You know you can’t take me down; I have men coming,” I said to her, and she laughed mockingly, Pointing her fingers at me.
“Your men aren’t up to mine, Burke; I have over a hundred men,” I said, and that was when I knew I was cooked because she was right about my men.
I don’t have to worry about that, but getting over a hundred men won’t have been difficult. I would have ordered Jack’s men to come with me.
“Fuck me again,” I said under my breath; I did not have a plan, and Catherine, who was the master of plans, was on the verge of death and needed to be treated immediately; I hated myself for not taking action in the right way.
“Is she dead?” Harley asked, still pointing a gun to my head.
“Yes, she is,” I lied, knowing that if I told the truth, Harley would go and kill Catherine for good.
Harley smiled at the thought that she had killed Catherine.
“Good, Now you will do as I say,” She ordered, and I gave her a laugh in response.
“No one orders me, Harley; I am your Alpha, the protector of this realm, the owner of all powers; have you forgotten?” I asked, but my power didn’t frighten her.
“I have the protector of the realm, his hands are raised above his head because his life is in my hands, do as I say or I’ll blow your head off,” She said, as she snapped her fingers, soon all her men came into the room, and their arms were pointed at me.
“What the fuck do you want?” I asked, not because I was not afraid of death, but because I was afraid of Catherine dying, and I have already sworn to Catherine that Harley won’t go away with this.
“I want you to bury her body,” Harley said; she wasn’t holding a gun to my head, but her men were.
“Fucking No, Harley, I can’t bury her,” I yelled; the men pulled their triggers, ready to fire at me.
“If I say this again, you will be with your father, Bury Catherine now,” She ordered.
“No, I won’t,” I said, ready to die; my only regret was that I didn’t get to fulfill the promise I made to Catherine.
Harley snapped her fingers, and I began to hear different gunshots in the air; my eyes were closed.
Soon, the gunshots stopped, and I couldn’t feel any pain; I opened my eyes and saw Harley’s men on the fall dead.
Although Harley took shelter, she was alive.
“What the fuck did you do?” Harley asked and I looked at her confused.
My men weren’t enough to take up to a hundred men at once; I didn’t send for Ethan’s men, so who the fuck was helping me.
Soon my men and some of Ethan’s men entered Harley’s office and surrounded her.
“How do you know my whereabouts?” I asked, confused.
“They didn’t, I did,” Ava said as she approached me, with a smiling face.
“Ava?” Harley asked, surprised that her best friend ambushed her.
