CHAPTER FORTY-FOUR
BURKE’S POV
It was my father’s burial already; we stood at the cemetery, ready to concentrate his body so that he would rest in peace.
There was a rule in my pack: if a body isn’t concentrated after death, the body would be restless and would roam around looking for a living vessel to concentrate the body.
It was only defaulters of the law we gave that fate to; we believed it was worse than death. I wasn’t on good terms with my father before he died, but he doesn’t deserve that fate.
“Where is Ava and Harley?” I asked Susan in a whisper as I stood in front of my father’s body.
“I don’t know, sir, they have been going to different places lately; I don’t know where they always go,” She replied, and immediately I suspected Harley for Catherine’s disappearance.
My mind hadn’t been at peace since the previous day; I was worried sick about her. We ordered a night search for her, but we couldn’t get a hold of her whereabouts.
“Does Ava follow Harley to where she goes?” I asked, wanting to be sure if Ava was a part of Harley’s mischief.
“No sir, it seems like they are already here,” Susans said, pointing towards the entrance of the cemetery.
Ava and Harley walked into the cemetery wearing all black; I wondered why Ava was so foolish, and she couldn’t see that Harley was the villain.
“Good day brother,” Ava said, her eyes were red and it seemed like she had been crying since I placed my hand on Ava’s shoulder and whispered into her ears,
“Stop crying, I told you all will be well,” She smiled at me before taking her attention back to my father’s burial concentration.
“Stop crying Ava,” Harley said, placing her hands on Ava’s hand, and I saw a stain like blood at the corner of her hand.
Immediately, I grabbed her hand, and it was bloody; her hands were stained with blood.
“Why the fuck do you have blood on your hands?” I asked and she dragged her hand from me immediately.
“I got into a fight, which made me transform,” She said, and I doubted her because it didn’t look like she had transformed; her fingernails weren’t dirty, and her face didn’t look like she had transformed because her face was still looking brilliant and her make up wasn’t even touched.
“Catherine’s missing. I would have told you yesterday, but you weren’t around; it seems like you and Harley had somewhere important to be,” I said, and Ava shook her head immediately.
“I wasn’t with Harley, I went on a date with someone,” She said, making my suspicion for Harley stronger.
“Where were you, Harley?” I asked, and Harley’s countenance changed immediately; she opened her mouth, and nothing came out; she could not even utter a word; Harley was with Catherine, and that was certain.
“I… I… ,”
“Let’s call on the Alpha to start the burning of the body,” The most elderly man in our pack spoke before Harley could utter a word.
Lucas was the most elderly man, and he was my father’s best friend before he died.
I walked to him, and he handed me the lighter; I placed it on the dry leaf that covered my father’s body, and then his body started burning.
I went back to where I stood and waited for my father’s body to be burnt before putting the ashes in the casket and molding his grave.
I had a lot of questions to ask Harley, but I couldn’t because we cannot talk when the body is still burning.
It took nothing less than four or five hours for his body to turn to ashes; we placed him in his casket and buried him.
When we were done with the burial, I told Susan to keep an eye on Harley, while I took care of some pack’s order.
“Harley’s about to leave the mansion, sir,” Susan told me, as she was panting heavily. It seemed like she ran to my chambers to tell me the news.
“Right now?” I asked, and Susan nodded.
I grabbed my car keys and headed towards my car; luckily, Harley was just leaving my mansion.
I gave my guards orders to follow me discreetly before entering my car and following her immediately.
Harley drove to the outskirts of the pack, which wasn’t where she lived; my curiosity grew, but I was happy she hadn’t found out that she had been followed.
“What the fuck is she up to,” I said to myself as I watched her pack her car in an abandoned warehouse, she got out of the car, and Ava wasn’t with her, which made me a little happy; I was glad my sister wasn’t among her dubious act.
Harley went into the warehouse; it was guarded by a lot of armed men, meaning I would have to be careful if I wanted to enter the warehouse and come out alive.
I got out of my car, holding a silent gun; it shot without making a sound.
I got to the gate, and the guard in charge of the gate tried to shoot at me, but he wasn’t fast enough, as my bullet reached his heart and he dropped dead on the floor.
I took off his clothes and his mask and wore them.
“Thank goodness they wear a mask,” I said to myself, heading towards the warehouse.
I turned around, and my guards weren’t near the place, it seemed like they were lost in the traffic or something.
“The boss sent for me,” I said to the guard at the entrance door; he nodded and opened the door for me.
Lucky for me, it didn’t seem like her guards were close to each other; they didn’t even know each other’s voices. That was a stupid move, but I didn’t expect more from Harley; she isn’t smart, but she thinks she is.
I saw Harley come out from a room, with blood stains on her body.
“Get her out of here,” She told me, thinking I was one of her guards.
I rushed inside, only to see Catherine with blood stains on her body and her eyes closed.
My heart stopped beating.
