EVOLET
“Welcome my lovely and brave damsels. It’s so nice to see you all again,” The Queen said with a big smile, stepping off the stairs with the sorceress by her side.
“I’m sorry about the delay. Your Alpha had an emergency and couldn’t welcome you angels himself. But don’t worry, he’ll be present during the games today,” she said, pleasing the girls.
Where I stood watching, I noticed how Sorceress Thelma kept lowering down to touch her knees and rising again to stand straight.
“Are you seeing this?” I asked Derby while keeping my attention on the elderly woman.
“What?” Derby asked.
“The sorceress is acting strange. I think she’s… weak,” I observed when she repeated her brief squat, patting the Queen from behind.
“Really? I didn’t notice,”Derby said, looking lost.
She didn’t see when the sorceress made those weak movements. In fact, I think I’m the only one among all the girls who saw this.
Others were focused on Queen Chriselda’s welcome speech. Their minds are on the game.
I saw the sorceress whispering something to Queen Chriselda. Whatever it was, made the Luna displeased.
She had to put on a swift smile for the damsels, while the Sorceress walked out, heading up the stairs.
“Well, as I was saying… My son will be present when the games begin. For now, you can all follow the guards into the guest room and wait for…” She suddenly paused and looked straight into my direction!
I thought her fixed gaze was just my mind tricking me, since her majesty doesn’t like me. Well… I was wrong.
“Evolet?” she uttered my name in surprise, fixing her gaze right at me.
And then… “Evolet! I didn’t see you there,” she called my name with a wide grin, looking creepy. “In fact, I didn’t expect to see you here after your last game.”
She drew near, forcing the others to clear a pathway down to me.
“Oh boy,” Derby uttered, following the others to move to the side. I was left alone at the center, until the Queen came standing before me, chuckling through her mouth.
“Your name has been going all around Wolf Fall after that night. It’s always about that Omega and her wolf.” Her eyes glanced down to Cadell’s point, before dropping her gaze at me.
“I don’t know if I should be happy with your return or frown at it. If only the sorceress was still here to give me that answer, then it would have been easy. Or what do you think, Eve?” She asked, tilting her head.
Recognizing her blustering nature, I calmly responded with respect, saying, “Honestly, I don’t know, my Queen.”
My eyes fell on the pendant on her neck. I was tempted to pull it off and make a run for it. But that will only raise her suspense.
I don’t want her to know I’m the bearer of the Spirit Wolf.
The Queen hummed and said, glaring at me, “I’ll also be honest with you, Eve… I don’t like you nor do I find your presence appealing in my home.”
“All the posts and news of your strange behavior only makes me see you as an unfit damsel for this hunt.” She walked around Cadell and I, pointing out my flaws like she knows best.
“If you aren’t seen around men today, you’ll be spotted somewhere in my pack fighting like a thug! That’s not the kind of Luna my pack wants. I want a damsel with morals and values!”
“According to the rules, every damsels who took part in the hunt, except for Fiona, have been ordered to take part in this new game. The guards called my name and here I am,” I said, reminding her of the rules.
She groaned at my words, flashing her eyes at me.
“So now you’re going to teach your Queen how the rules goes? Just because you defeated an enemy, you now think you’ve grown wings bigger than the Queen?!” She raised her voice, terrifying the others who stood aside watching.
I don’t know why she’s stirring up things to make herself mad.
Yes, she has never liked me from the beginning and still doesn’t, but is that enough to get her all cranky?
Waw, I wonder how high her hate for me has gotten.
I stood there silently without responding to Chriselda. But my quietness didn’t help either.
“Yes, the rules must be followed,” She smiled, snapping her finger to a guard at once.
The fellow came over and she commanded with a strong voice, “The list, bring it to me!”
“Yes, my Queen,” The guard responded, rushing out of the mansion.
I was beginning to suspect the Queen’s demand.
Seems someone is trying to prove a point.
The guard came back with the list as ordered and Chriselda crossed out my name with a pen, showing it to my face.
The others gasped when they saw this.
“I am the Queen and I make the rules here. If your name isn’t on my list, then that means you never took part in the first hunt. So…” she pointed at the door. “Do take your leave, Omega.”
Her action left the others astonished. They all looked at me, waiting to see my reaction.
Cadell was mad at the Queen for doing this. He began growling, spiking her anger even more.
“Another reason why you can’t be Wolf Fall’s Luna!” She points at him, stamping her feet to scare him.
“A true Queen doesn’t depend on weak animals from the forest! We unleash our own beast to show how tough we are!”
He growled and even made an attempt to bite her leg when she swayed it in his face.
That startled the Queen, making her stagger back in fear.
“My Queen!” Two guards came over to help her, but their effort did nothing.
She slapped their hands off and flashed her beast eyes at me.
I stood there staring at her. I didn’t care if Pervy wolf mauls her to nothing. She’s no longer a figure worth giving respect.
A fraud, that’s what she is.
Furious over Cadell’s action, the Queen yelled at me, “Get out! Take this dog out of my mansion, now!!”
“Let’s go, Wolfy,” I said calmly, walking pass the Queen, and taking one more glance at her pendant.
She was fuming at me like a raging beast about to explode. She sparked at the guards again for trying to check on her.
Just as we were getting close to the door… “Evolet!” Derby called out, holding Trent unhappily.
I didn’t want her coming along. She’s already in.
Well, that’s what I thought.
“Oh, I’ve forgotten that her disciple is also here. You are welcome to join her if… Oh my Goodness! Where did you get that nonsense from?!” Chriselda sparked on seeing Kitty.
“What is wrong with you girls?! I hope no one else has a secret pet here?!” She flashed her eyes at the others, who raised their arms to display their innocence.
The Queen faced Derby and said, “If you want to stay in this hunt then you better throw that disgusting creature out of my home.”
Trent hissed angrily, almost pouncing at the Queen, but he was held back by Derby, who angrily responded to the Luna without any fear, “And you said you are living in Luna Violet’s example. This is nothing like the Late Queen.”
She held Kitty close and walked pass the Queen disrespectfully, until she was standing next to me.
“I rather leave this place with you than stay here all by myself,” Derby said, pulling me along.
The Queen might have succeeded in getting us kicked out from the hunt, but if the goddess wants us back in this mansion, then she’ll surely make a way.
