EVOLET
“That wasn’t enough,” Cadell grumbled, sitting next to Mom.
“He ran away before I could unleash my wrath and break his bones.”
“You will get him next time. For now, you won the fight,” Mom pampered him, putting a smile on his face.
“I knew Allen wouldn’t last long with Cadell. The time I fought with that asshole, he couldn’t take me down. He’s lucky that the old sorceress came to his rescue otherwise…” Trent shared, running his thumb across his neck where he sat.
“Wait, when was that?” Derby asked curiously, and Trent gave her his response.
“The night I was caught and taken by the Royal home.”
“Really? But the Sorceress claimed Alpha Allen was the… Damn, they lied to us!” Derby groaned, getting mad.
“I hate them all!” She kicked the air, expressing her detest for the Alpha. “I can’t wait to expose their dirty secrets. This hunt is taking forever!”
“Calm down, Derby. We are getting there. Soon, everything will fall in place. Right Eve?” Trent uttered, looking at me.
Where I sat next to Cadell, I responded with a smile, “Right. We will handle them all, including Allen. He was lucky the first time, but he won’t escape this time around.”
I tightened my fist, flashing to his annoying approaches and audacity towards me.
“He thinks because he’s the Alpha he owns every beings in Wolf Fall? Not me. I belong to no one. Well… Maybe to one person only.” I turned to face my Pervy Wolf who had his hand holding mine tightly, talking to the others.
He has been fuming over his brief fight with Allen, raging over the fact that he didn’t destroy the Alpha completely.
Classic Cadell.
.
At last, the day of the hunt was here.
Derby and I were ready to head down to the mansion and join the other damsels for the games.
Cadell and Trent shifted into their pet form to accompany us, while Mom stayed back after giving us her blessings. “I’ll come by for the games this afternoon,” she promised us before we left.
On our way, Derby asked about Allen. “Will that crazy man allow us in after what happened?”
“Funny enough, I was thinking about the same thing,” I smiled at Derby, almost chuckling.
“I think he won’t stop us. The order was clear. Every damsel except Fiona must return to the game. We aren’t Fiona, so we are qualified,” I gave her my answer, patting her on the head.
She chortled before Kitty came hopping into her arms for a snuggle. He just laid in her arms like a sleepy child, while Derby held him close with so much love.
Come to think of, I’ve always seen these two together like glue. Derby hardly sits or follows me around, unless Trent is with me.
“Seems something fishy is going on with them,” I suspected, smirking at the beautiful display of affection Derby and Trent were showing.
“I hope it’s what I’m thinking.”
Arriving at the mansion, we met all damsels standing close to the statue of Luna Violet, looking tougher than ever.
Some girls were talking while others were flexing their skills in the open.
“Waw, so many hotties in one place. It’s been long I entered a gathering filled with pretty ladies,” Cadell said, sounding pervy.
I rolled my eyes to his point and found him staring at me. Seems he was waiting to see my reaction.
He smirked and poked my leg, trying to get me to say something.
He thinks I’ll get mad at what he said? He’s dreaming!
“Your plan won’t work. I am jealous free.”
“We’ll see about that,” Cadell scoffed, walking ahead. We followed him through the gate.
As soon as we stepped in, the eyes of the damsels fell on Derby and I, mostly at me. They didn’t look happy to see us.
“Oh Crap! We forgot about them.”
“It’s Evolet!”
“Goodness, we’re doomed for sure.”
“It’s that skilled Omega.”
“Did you see how she dealt with Fiona?” They all whispered, gossiping about my presence.
Their gazes took my mind back to the first day we started the hunt. They all glared at me with hatred, just because I was wolfless. But now they stare at me with fear. That weak wolfless Omega is now a terror in their eyes.
And I must say… I feel proud of how far I have come.
“Just look at their big eyes. They haven’t seen anything,” Derby chuckled, feeling the pride as well.
We both went into a corner to wait, only for a group of girls to walk up to us, acting tough.
I squatted to Cadell’s level, petting him on the head before asking the girls who stood before us, staring, “Do you need anything?”
They glanced at each other then at me.
I was expecting some kind of bullying or harsh response, but their sudden action amused me.
They all smiled at me and one replied on behalf of the group, ” We aren’t here to mess with you girls. No way! We just want to stick around like friends. That’s if you don’t mind.”
“Yeah, as friends,” the others repeated, nodding their head.
“Oh, I see,” I uttered, looking at Derby who stood at my right. She was amazed as well and had a grin to show it.
Her facial expression almost got me laughing, but I held it back and turned to face the girls.
These are the same group who made Fiona their leader. But I can see an addition to the team.
“We promise not to stress you. We just feel like being around a pro fighter like yourself.”
“Exactly. We saw that fight between you and Fiona. You were amazing!”
They began to talk, expressing their delight.
But I haven’t given them an answer yet and they are already treating me like a member of their group.
Derby signaled me to let them in. “They need someone to lead them into the right path. And who’s the better person here if not you?” she whispered, winking at me.
What Derby said opened a new light in me.
Who knows how many of them the Alpha has deceived into pleasing his urges in the secret and how many are yet to be betrayed.
It’s my duty to help them out of this blind trust and into the light.
“So, what do you say?” They asked, joining their palms together.
“It’s a Yes,” Derby responded on my behalf, pleasing the girls.
She poked me on the arm and smirked, putting a smile on my face.
Finally, we were being called into the mansion one at a time by the guards, who had a list in their hold containing our names.
I was expecting Allen to be around when this was taking place, but it seems that crazy Alpha wasn’t in.
The guards called Derby’s name and she went in with Trent in her hold. I was still outside with Cadell and ten other girls. Pervy Wolf stood beside me, keeping me company.
“Geez, I hope my name is on the list?” I ran my hand across my chin, recalling my desperation to leave the hunt and the Queen’s suspicion back then.
“What if she erased my name out?” I wondered, thinking of a different plan to carry out if they don’t mention my name.
“EVOLET.”
“Huh? Oh, that’s me!” I raised my hand, hurrying into the mansion with Cadell.
“That was a relief,” I smiled, hurrying up to meet Derby, who stood at the door waving her hand.
We joined the others who were called in, waiting for the rest.
When that was over… “It’s the Queen!” The girls chorused, lifting their gazes to the top of the stairs.
I did the same and saw Queen Chriselda and Sorceress Thelma walking down the stairs with a smile on their faces.
Just like the first time. She had this same deceitful smile when I was a dullard. Now that I know what is true and false, I can see through her lies.
“Evolet,” Derby tapped my hand, signaling with her eyes to the pendant around the Queen’s neck.
My heart gave a skip as when I dropped my attention on the jewel.
I have to take that energy back.
