EVOLET
“Mom, you can’t leave them here! I thought you said it’s a family trip?” I asked, finding this idea of hers bad.
She looked at me and responded with a shrug, “Yeah, it’s a family trip, just the three of us, now that sweet Derby is here.” She points at Derby, who just waved at her.
“And the pets? Aren’t they family?” I asked, going down on my knees to hold Cadell and Trent close, so that Mom would see how much we need them. “They’ll be lonely without us. I doubt if they can even survive without me!” I sniffed, trying to force out tears from my eyes, even if it’s just a drop.
Cadell howled sadly, burying his face on me, while Trent gave out the googly eyes to win Mom over.
She saw this but held on to her decision strongly.
“I didn’t say they aren’t family, Eve. See…” She sighed, looking at the tailor who stood close to us, listening to our conversation.
When she saw Mom’s gaze, she immediately distanced herself from us, giving us the privacy we needed.
“Evolet, it’s not like I don’t want to take the pets. The thing is my expenses can’t cover them. Traveling with pets can be costly, and I don’t have enough money to cater for four. I don’t want us to get stranded while bringing them along. I’m trying to make this week memorable and interesting. Just accept and let the pets stay here, please,” Mom explained, looking concerned.
“You need to understand, Evolet. If we take them, then this family trip won’t last long. And I really need this outing to relax before getting back to work,” she said, sounding emotional.
Damn! I can’t help but feel guilty just seeing Mom expressing sadness to my protest. She really wants this trip to go well for us and I want the guys to also join us in having this fun.
It has always been their wish to take me out of Wolf Falls and explore other parts of the world, and now that I’m going somewhere without them… “It’s fine. We’ll be okay,” Cadell whispered, caressing his face against mine.
With a heavy heart, I sighed and agreed with Mom’s decision. She was pleased with my acceptance and said, “Don’t worry, we’ll get them something nice. Don’t you want juicy treats when we get back? I know you do.” She directed her attention to the guys, tempting them with tasty snacks.
They both had to comply and act excited, making Mom feel better.
Then she walked up to the tailor and began to lay out some rules concerning the guys.
As she spoke with them, Derby went on her knees to embrace Trent and Cadell, getting emotional. “I’m going to miss you two so much, especially you, Kitty. I promise to get you something, okay?”
Kitty meowed, snuggling with Derby.
“I think I’m going to cry, Eve,” Derby said, showing me her eyes. They were shimmering with tears already, expressing how hurt she was by Mom’s decision.
But I can’t stop her. She’s trying to manage her income and give herself the relaxation she wants. Besides, the guys are fine with this. They don’t mind even if I do.
“You know I’ll be there if you need me, Eve. Just don’t worry,” Cadell whispered again, soothing my worry.
I sighed and calmly hugged him close, not ready to let my Pervy Wolf go, but I had to.
Mom was done talking to the tailor, who promised to take care of the guys, with fear in her eyes. “I’ll do my best, as long as that extra gets to me,” she grinned, looking right at Cadell.
Seems he’s the reason for her fear.
“I trust you. Let’s go,” Mom said, leading the way.
Derby and I took one more look at the guys, watching their keeper signal them into her store. But Cadell and Trent didn’t listen to her. They just stood there staring, until we where out of sight.
Mom got a cab, and we got inside, heading out of Wolf Falls.
I remembered the shield that used to be around the pack and wondered what would have happened if it was still active.
But now that I think of it… “Wolfy,” I moaned, dropping my head on Derby to think about my Cadell.
She sighed and also moaned out, “Poor Kitty. I wish we had a way to take them along. Didn’t you see their sad eyes?”
“Oh heavens! You girls are matured for crying out loud. Quit acting like kids and think of all the fun things we’ll do when we get to Brook Wave,” Mom said with a big smile on her face.
It almost felt like she was never emotional about leaving the pets in the first place.
Sometimes, I don’t understand this woman’s character.
She can be confusing.
“We’re heading to a new place to explore the land. Just try to free your minds, okay?” She advised, getting thrilled.
“How I wish we told the guys about this. Maybe they would have joined and brought the pets with them,” Derby whispered to me.
“Yeah, they would have done that,” I responded, wrapping my arms across my chest.
Even though I was missing the guys, I was still happy with the fact that we were leaving the pack, away from Fiona and Allen. At least I’ll have a whole week without seeing their faces.
I bet Alpha Allen would go nuts when he sees we’re gone. I just hope the Goddess make him think I’m no more coming back. That will help me a lot.
.
After journeying out of Wolf Fall to different other packs to book more rides, we finally got to Brook Wave at exactly nine on the dot, at night.
We were already feeling sleepy and just went into the building Mom had lodged us in, diving into bed to get some shut eyes.
“You girls sleep. By morning we’ll be heading out to see the pack.”
“Hmm Yeah… Yeah,” Derby and I mumbled, dozing off.
And when the morning came, we were woken by the smell of something juicy.
Derby and I sat up to a table filled with nice and tempting meals for our breakfast. We were stunned because it looked so expensive!
Not just that, our room gave the vibe of luxury, causing me to wonder if we had accidentally entered someone’s room last night.
“Oh my God! This place is so beautiful!” Derby shrieked, moving around to explore.
“Yeah, too beautiful,” I said, rising to my feet to search for Mom. She wasn’t in the room with us, nor in the other bedroom. I began to feel worried, hoping she just went out to have a stroll and nothing else.
“Eve! The bathroom is on a different level. Come!” Derby gestured me over, making me rush up to her point to check out the fancy interior of the bathroom.
“Goodness!” I exclaimed at the sight of the fancy washroom.
If this room is as lavish as a king’s house, doesn’t that mean Mom booked us an expensive room by accident?
“God, I think she made a mistake!” I panicked, getting worried.
“We were so tired from yesterday’s journey and couldn’t think straight with our heavy eyes. Mom booked this room by accident!”
“Oh shit! That is true. She said she didn’t have a enough money on her. Goodness, do you think she went over to the reception to speak to them about it?” Derby wondered, fading out of her excitement to worry.
We couldn’t tell since Mom wasn’t here with us. So, I decided to call her and find out where exactly she was.
Just as I was about to take my phone out of the bag, the door came open, and Mom stepped in with a colorful bag in her hold.
“Mom!” I exclaimed, rushing up to meet her.
“Oh, you angels are up. Are you ready for our fun day?” She asked with a smile on her face. But we weren’t smiling back.
“We thought you went over to the reception to complain about our booking.”
“Why will I go there to complain at the room?” she narrowed her brows at us, looking confused.
From Mom’s expression, I felt she didn’t understand what was happening.
“Mom, look at this room. It’s luxurious!” I pointed at the place, so she’d see clearly.
“The room is fine, Girls. Why are you panicking?”
“Luxurious Mom! I… I think we made a mistake last night.”
Hearing what I said, Mom chuckled at my worry and patted me on the head. “You are such a funny child, Evolet. I don’t know why the beauty of the room is frightening you,” she said, walking pass us and heading for our bed.
I was still perplexed by her behavior. Is she okay up there?
“Come on, girls. You can’t leave this meal hanging. Go and freshen up and eat your breakfast,” She spoke calmly, looking unbothered by her surrounding.
My head was still trying to figure out why my mother was calm, until I saw her turning out the things in her colourful bag. They were pretty summer dresses to match Brook Wave weathers. And this clothes weren’t cheap… They were expensive!
Now I understood why Mom wasn’t bothered about mine and Derby’s reaction. It’s because she booked this room with her eyes wide opened!
And from all these luxurious signs around me… Mom lied about her expenses. She has enough money to take Cadell and Trent but pretended!
