EVOLET
“You girls should relax. We’re here to loosen up and have fun. Now hurry up, cause we have a lot of exploring to do. I even got us nice wears!” Mom shrieked, showing us the clothes.
She tossed two dresses at Derby and I, ordering us to hit the showers.
Derby excitedly ran to the bathroom to get ready while I remained with Mom, squinting my eyes at her.
When she saw me, she clicked her tongue and asked, “You don’t like the dress, do you? Don’t worry, we’ll stop at the store and get you a nice one.”
“Mom.”
“After our tour!” she laughed, tossing her dress in the air.
“Mom!” I called loudly, putting a stop to her play. “Why did you lie to me?”
“Lie? When did I tell a lie?” she asked, shrugging at me.
I covered my face and gave out a sigh, before reminding her about yesterday. “You told us that you didn’t have enough money to take the guys. You said you were managing but here you are spending lavishly like some Queen!”
“Oh, that lie?” She smiled, giggling. “Well, it’s no biggie. Just a little lie, that’s all.”
“Little? Mom, you told us we can’t bring the guys because you don’t have enough! We believed, thinking about your well being. You saw the eagerness in their eyes, didn’t you? They were sad, Mom. You lied to them.”
“You call them guys like they are real men in animal clothing,” Mom picked, narrowing her brows suspiciously at me.
Hearing her utter that word, I felt my heart skip. Did I make it sound that way?
Suddenly, she busted out laughing and said, “I’m just joking! Why are you creeped out by what I said? They are just pets.”
“Yeah, just pets,” I agreed, faking laughter.
That was a close call.
“Look, Evolet. I know I lied to you girls about the expenses. I just wanted this trip to be about us. If we take the pets, it’s going to be stressful. They’re going start with their craziness, especially Wolfy!” She pointed out, hitting more on Cadell.
“He’s a messy wolf and would stress you! Kitty knows how to stay calm sometimes, but Wolfy? That Wolf goes berserk. He can’t do without following you around, and that won’t give you the space to enjoy yourself,” she explained, giving her reasons.
Even though she doesn’t know the truth about the guys, she was right about my Pervy wolf. He gets cranky when apart from me.
“I just pray that tailor is safe,” I muttered out, imagining what would happen if those two lose it.
“She’ll do just fine. Besides, she’s the one who volunteered to look after them when I mentioned money. She likes gathering her notes,” Mom said, demonstrating the invisible cash with her hands.
After hearing this from her, I decided to just stay calm and go with the flow. She did this to give Derby and I the relaxation we deserve, so who am I to go against her?
It’s her wish after all.
“Are we good now?” She asked, rising to her feet and approaching me. “No more grumpy expressions?” She smirked, pulling my cheek.
I smiled at Mom’s exciting mood. You can see how happy and different she is after we left Wolf Falls. It’s like she was in a cage for years, but finally came out to embrace the freedom.
And honestly, I love this jovial side of her.
To her questions, I nodded, pleasing Mom. She happily clapped her hands and told me to get ready as well.
“There’s another bathroom in my room. Go and freshen up.”
“Okay Mom,” I said, taking the dress along with me.
.
Two hours later, we were outside in the open, exploring the wonders of Brook Wave pack.
Mom got Derby and I to take pictures around the pack, as we did interesting activities together.
We visited the water fall she spoke about and it was amazing.
I felt my body jitter when we saw a rainbow at the top. It was so beautiful to behold.
“Take a pic, Eve. The guys are going to go wild when they see this,” Derby shrieked, supporting my hold on my phone.
We carried on this fun time until the evening came.
Mom wasn’t ready to head back to the hotel. She still wanted us to take part in a fair taking place at the center of Brook Wave.
She called it a once in a lifetime moment.
Although I was tired, I still agreed to Mom’s request since it’s what she wants. So, we followed her to the center of Brook Wave, where the fair had begun.
The place was crowded with faces we have never seen before. It made me feel like an alien in a strange land, when some people walked by and glanced at us.
It was kind off bothering, and I became uncomfortable.
Mom and Derby didn’t care because they didn’t take note. They were just here to have some fun.
When they decided to dive into one activity or the other, I just went over to a bench at the center and sat down to wait for them.
“I’m tired. If you need me, I’ll be here,” I said to them before they left.
Once they were gone, I began to feel lonely.
The faces of the people passing by only made me miss my Cadell more. I wish my Pervy Wolf was here to take my boredom away.
“I could really use your company, Cadell ,” I wished, caressing the wolf on my necklace.
“I really miss you,” that confession slipped out, making me think about him harder.
Since this necklace is a part of him, Pervy wolf is bound to hear my call. And maybe he’d come down to Brook Wave to see me.
“Gosh! I don’t mind if I have to run away from this fair to see him in the woods. I really want to be by his side,” I groaned, wrapping my arms across my chest.
That’s when I heard from my right hand side, “That’s a pretty necklace.”
“Huh?” I uttered, turning to find a brunette lady with pale skin, staring at my neck.
“I said it’s pretty,” she repeated, lifting her eyes to gaze into my eyeballs.
“Oh, Um… Thank you,” I stammered out, breaking a smile out.
“You don’t look like a member of this pack. You’re traveler, right?” She asked, scanning her eyes all over me.
It was amusing for me, but I felt it’s because she’s a member of the pack, that’s why she figured that out.
“I’m also a traveler myself.”
Okay, I think I was wrong about that.
“Came down here to enjoy the view… and work,” she said, directing her eyes on the people.
“That’s great. You’re really living the life,” I commented, trying hard not to get too deep into this conversation I never planned in the first place.
The lady hummed and said, dropping her eyes back on my neck, “Maybe before I leave, you could show me where you got your necklace. Or maybe sell this one to me for a nice price? That’s if you don’t mind.”
She broke a smile, looking… creepy.
“Um, I’m sorry. It’s a unique gift from someone dear to me,” I explained, so she’d understand.
She hummed at my words, tilting her head to the side. “Unique. That sounds nice. I also had a special gift from someone. It was from my father.”
“Oh,” I uttered, flashing to Dad.
“He got it specially for me. But whenever I look at it, I feel so…” She paused, looking lost and… angry?
Amidst her sudden pause, I sensed some kind of strange energy coming from this lady’s body. And just as I was trying to figure out why she smelt off from every werewolf, her eyes… It flashed red!
My body triggered at this sudden sight from this stranger. I could feel my wolf getting uncomfortable with her presence after seeing her beast eyes!
“She’s not giving the scent of a werewolf. Then what is she?” I questioned, planning a way out of this conversation.
“What rank are you?” She asked, dropping her story and navigating her eyes on me. “What’s your wolf rank?”
“My rank? Oh, I’m… I’m an Omega,” I answered, suspicious of that question.
“An Omega? Meaning you’re a weak wolf?” She looked pleased with that response, sending warnings to mind brain.
With a forced smile, I said, “Yeah, the last on the wolf rank.”
“I see. That will explain the weak aura coming from you. Is it that you don’t have a wolf or…” Her eyes kept scanning my body to my neck region.
“I still don’t know how to summon my wolf. I’m just learning,” I answered, giving the answer everyone at Wolf Fall knows.
And as I anticipated, she was glad!
Something is up with this lady. Why is she curious to know about my rank?
And from her nose sense, it’s clear she can only pick my weak aura and not the main one. But I can tell this woman has a strong energy in her. She’s not a Werewolf.
What is she?
“So, what rank are you? Do you fall on the Delta part or…”
” I have work to do,” she interrupted, rising to her feet. “We will meet again soon, Omega. And I hope you get your answer,” she said, smiling.
Just like that, she walked away into the crowds and vanished like thin air.
I immediately got to my feet, feeling restless with this strange encounter with this lady. Something wasn’t right about her.
“She calls herself a traveler here in Brook Wave, but the pack is part of the werewolf territory. And they don’t associate with any creatures outside our kind. It has been that way since…”
All of a sudden, I felt that same aura like the lady’s, flowing around me. It was a bit different from hers, but the scent was same!
I could feel it everywhere at the fair. It was forming some kind of circle around the people.
“Oh Shit!” I exclaimed, understanding what was happening.
The pack… It’s about to be attacked!
