TRENT
“You should have been there, Trent. Evolet was going wild!” Derby shared excitedly, narrating how the fight went at the pack square.
I had to leave Eve and Cadell to pay Derby a visit, after watching that video. Not that she was hurt or anything… I just wanted to make sure she was okay.
“She went Swoosh and Pow! While Fiona was falling backwards like some drama queen, with her nose going all bloody!” Derby laughed while dramatizing the whole scenario to me.
I laughed, enjoying Derby’s acting skill.
She even added her own spice to the play, placing her hand on her head and saying to the ceiling, “Alas! I have been defeated. I can no longer show my shameful self to the public. Goodbye Wolf Fall.” She fell right into my arms where I sat on the bed, and we busted into laughter.
Her company brightens my mood all the time. She has become a part of my every day life and… I will be so mad if anyone should hurt Derby. Including those greedy family of hers.
Derby and Evolet might not have seen it, but when I watched that video, I saw that selfish grown ass cousin of hers, standing with the crowds and staring right at Derby!
He was standing opposite her and she didn’t even know, due to the fact that she was cheering and supporting her friend.
But I saw him, and I know that family is up to something nasty.
“It’s now or never. I have to get rid of them,” I decided while staring at a jovial Derby.
She needs to be free completely.
.
That night, Derby came over to stay with Evolet for a sleepover. She still hasn’t told Eve about all the things she’s facing, and I kind of supported her decision, advising her to speak when the time is right. She agreed obediently.
When the girls fell asleep along with Cadell, I snuck out of the house and made my way to Derby’s father, no… Her Selfish uncle’s place, to find something to use against them.
I stood outside and watched how the family enjoyed themselves in the living room, showering that large dog with so much love and attention. It made me sick just seeing and thinking of how they treated Derby wrongly.
“This money should be enough to get Derby out of that apartment. We’ll be around when she’s kicked out, so she’ll have no choice but to crawl back to us for shelter,” her Uncle planned with both wife and son, counting the cash he had gathered from heavy knows where.
“We won’t take her back immediately. We’ll make her sweat before she earns our forgiveness,” her Aunt, who was never a mother figure, added while patting her husband on the shoulder.
Then the oversized lowlife of a son, reminded them about me, suggesting they keep a look out just in case. “That man threatened me. We should get more men just in case he shows up to attack us.”
“What can that poppy do against a group of tough wolves? He’ll dump that useless girl and run away. Just watch and see,” Derby’s uncle bragged, cackling out loudly.
I groaned at their plan, tightening my hand into a fist. I felt like storming inside and giving them all a piece of my mind, but that would spoil my plan. “Greedy bastards. Just wait and see.”
“Do you plan on eating them all?” A familiar voice said from my left side, stunning me!
I turned over and found Cadell watching Derby’s family right next to me!
What’s he doing here?!
“Tell me, are we breaking bones or chewing bones?” He asked, placing his face on the window!
“What the hell?!” I exclaimed out, getting Cadell to look at me. He smirked and greeted, “What’s up?”
Just then, we heard Derby’s Uncle yelling out, “What’s that sound?!”
Quickly, Cadell and I rushed up into a tree not too far away, and watched Theodore bouncing out of the house to check around.
“That guy looks tough. Maybe I can take him out on your behalf, while you handle those oldies. What do you say, Kitty Cat?” Cadell grinned, patting my shoulder.
“First of all, Why are you here? And Secondly… Why are you here?!”
“Dude, both questions are the same.”
“Answer me, Cadell,” I glared at him, watching him shrug.
“Okay fine. I saw you sneaking out, so I followed you here.”
“So, you chose to spy on me because I left the house? What if I was returning to my pack? Would you have done the same thing?” I squinted my eyes at him.
Cadell chuckled and boldly said, “I would have known if you were heading to your den or to Derby’s apartment. But it’s none of the above.”
“Wait, what do you mean by Derby’s apartment?” I stared at him in surprise, hoping he was just talking about her family’s house.
That’s when Cadell revealed his stalking habit on me for some time now. “You can’t pretend to me, Cat. I know you’ve been helping Derby all this time. When you leave at night, you always head down to her place, hiding your affairs away from Evolet and I,” he teased, slapping my head.
“It’s not an affair, Grandpa! I’m just helping a friend out of a troubling situation. Don’t mistake my kindness for something else,” I corrected, taking my eyes back at the house.
And here I thought I was keeping everything secret, forgetting that the Demon wolf himself roams the night like darkness.
“Affair or not, I won’t stop looking at you and Derby with a big smile on my face. And if you push me, I’ll just yell out ‘Lovebirds’.”
“Oh heavens!” I covered my face, wishing I had taken note of my surrounding earlier.
“So, what are we doing to this cheapskate family?” Cadell asked, placing his arm around me.
Hearing the word ‘We’, I looked at the man next to me, just to be sure he was Cadell indeed. He noticed my face expression and rolled his eyes. “Is it now a crime to say we?”
“I don’t know. It feels weird coming from you.”
“Whatever. I’m only getting myself involved in your problems, even though you didn’t invite me, because you’re Evolet and Derby’s Kitty,” he defended, taking his arm off my shoulder.
I wanted to chortle at his behavior but held that back when he added, “But I’m mostly doing this because of what you did.”
“What I did?” I asked in a bit of confusion, noticing how Cadell curled his lips into a smile, lifting his brow at me.
“Evolet… You told her the truth about my nights-out, and… It did a lot of things between us.”
Oh, that one.
“So, I decided to help you with your plan. Just tell me whatever it is you want, and I will handle it,” he said, making his promise.
I never thought a day like this would come. Looks like my good deed is finally paying off.
“Thanks,” I appreciated, smirking at Cadell.
A few hours later, when those oldies and their son went to bed, Cadell and I got off the tree, rehearsing the plan once more.
“You just need to head inside and get whatever item that can prove this people’s scandalous acts. People like them must have something bad that will tarnish their image. I can feel it.”
“Okay… hold on first,” Cadell said, facing the house.
With speed, he went into the building and came back with a box of papers, dumping it in my front!
“That was quick.”
“I’ve seen that old man a couple of times with this box. He always pulls it out from under his bed and talks about some old company… I don’t know,” Cadell shared, revealing his secret snoop on Derby’s family.
When he mentioned company, I recalled Derby saying something about her parents having their own business back then.
“The company. Is it still in existence?” I asked, going through the box.
I didn’t have to dig in too far to find the papers. The whole box was filled with both original and lots of copies!
“Now why do they have all this copies? And are these names of individuals that… paid for the company and the land?” I was stunned while going through the sheets.
“Hohoho! Do I smell a scam?” Cadell chuckled, taking out a paper.
He wasn’t wrong. Derby’s Uncle is indeed a swindler! In fact, all of them are!
“These animals! It seems they sold the company to someone many years ago and ran out of money. Then they made copies to trick innocent buyers to pay for the same land, just to get more income!” I explained, understanding how they earned their income and showed no worry when I talked about their son taking over them.
They having been duping innocent buyers. And I bet they kept their location hidden as well.
“The whole family are fraudsters. Looks like you found a way out, Alpha Trent,” Cadell said, pointing at the phone number of the individual’s copy he held.
Oh, they are going to pay for every dime.
.
The next day, after running a few errands with Cadell, Derby and Evolet joined us for a stroll, walking into the pack.
Derby looked so excited to see we were all walking in groups after a long time. She even had her arm wrapped around mine, as she spoke to Cadell and I, asking about our day.
That conversation soon went on a hold when we noticed the people racing towards the direction that led to Derby’s home. It got the girls wondering what was happening.
“Why don’t we check it out?” I suggested, getting excited.
Cadell supported and immediately pulled Evolet along, forcing me to do the same with Derby.
As we hurried, Derby dragged me back and said, “But Trent… You know that part leads to my…”
“I know,” I stopped her, smiling with excitement. “You don’t want to miss this.”
She looked puzzled but followed me.
Until we arrived outside Derby’s family home to see Alpha Allen talking to a group of wealthy men from outside Wolf Fall, and the guards dragging Derby’s selfish relation out of their home.
“Oh my God! Derby, your parents!” Evolet exclaimed, looking shocked.
Derby was blown away by this. She just stared at them, as they begged the Alpha to save them.
The wealthy men are a few of the individuals Cadell and I contacted on from those papers. They shared their rage and desire to strangle these fraudsters for stealing from them, and we humbly fulfilled their wish.
They explained the situation to Alpha Allen, who had no time to defend anybody. He just gave the men the go ahead to handle the family, saying, “They no longer belong to this pack. I hereby banish them out of Wolf Fall.”
“No!” The trio screamed while being dragged away, begging the Alpha.
That’s when the greedy uncle spotted Derby and began to yell out to her, “Derby! Why are you standing there?! Are you going to allow them to take your family away?!”
Mentioning that word family, I got mad and yelled back at the greedy bastard. “You mean the same person you robbed all her life and treated like trash?! The same girl you disowned when she refused to be your gateway to riches?! She doesn’t belong to your criminal family. She has us.”
I boldly wrapped my arm around a stunned Derby, so that everyone would see and know what the poor girl has been going through in the secret.
Alpha Allen had seen this, but gave no comment to us. He just faced the old man and said, “Calling her name won’t help you. You didn’t just rob this men but also your niece. Gentlemen, you are free to do whatever you like.”
“Like hell we will. Let’s go!”
We watched how Derby’s family were pulled into a vehicle and taken away for good.
I felt so relieved to see those Vermins banished from this pack, giving Derby the freedom she always wanted.
“Looks like you own the house now, Derby.” I smiled, looking down at Derby to meet her gaze on me.
Her eyes were teary and ready to spill out tears. She sniffed and asked, “You did this, didn’t you? You are responsible, right?”
Her tears struck me hard. I thought I went too far with my action and felt guilty for carrying out this plan without telling Derby. But before I could explain myself, Derby dived into my arms for an embrace, crying out her heart. “Thank you so much, Trent. This is so awesome!”
Her tight grip warmed my heart. It forced me to embrace her back, squeezing her close.
“I did say you were my responsibility after all. Seems I’ve fully adopted you.”
Derby laughed, still keeping her face buried on me.
I lifted my head and found Evolet’s eyes getting teary. With all that just took place, she must be hurt to learn the truth about her friend, and… maybe pleased with my intervention?
I don’t know. It’s just that her eyes and smiles were giving a different message which I couldn’t interpret.
As for Cadell, I noticed him making movements behind Evolet. That got me looking to see him making smooches with his hands to… What is wrong with this man?!
He grinned, giving me the thumbs up, while I rolled my eyes to avoid contact with that crazy wolf.
Still, I own it up to the madman. I couldn’t have done this without him.
