EVOLET
“Geez! I thought that matter with the Alpha was over for good? I didn’t know he was still troubling you in the secret. Waw!” Derby swayed her head, still stunned by the drama that took place.
“Yep, he has been bugging me a lot,” I said, sliding both hands into my pocket while walking with Derby.
After Allen’s visit, Mom woke up to the sound of his car leaving the premises and asked about it. I had to lie that it was a cab passing by, so she wouldn’t get uncomfortable with the Alpha’s endless trouble.
“Why didn’t you tell your Mom it was the Alpha?”
“That’s something I don’t want, Derby. She has this detest towards the Royal family and I don’t want to add to it,” I answered, letting out a sigh to calm my mood. “I just want that mad wolf to hit his head and forget about me.”
Derby chuckled at what I said, taking my hand and leading me towards a bench outside the pack square.
I had to use Derby as an excuse to leave the house and cool my temper. Mom didn’t allow Cadell and Trent to come with me. She needed someone to keep watch on the house in case she falls asleep again.
I didn’t argue with that, even thou the guys wanted to come along. I won’t be gone for long. I’m just taking a stroll, then I’ll head back home.
“I’m sorry that you went through an awful experience with Beta Dean. And I thought he was better than the Gamma. I guess all three are the same,” Derby judged, looking unhappy.
“The madman took advantage of the fact that you’re wolfless and tried to… Now he has lost all my respect for him. I’m glad he was taken care of by that Rogue,” she groaned, crossing her arms.
I chuckled at Derby’s words, wrapping my arm around her shoulder, and watching the people passing by.
“Evolet.”
“Yep?” I turned over to face my friend, who kept her attention on the pack members, asking, “If… if you where with the Beta that night… does that mean you saw when he was attacked by the Rogue?”
I felt a skip in my heart when she threw that question at me. I didn’t know if I should admit the truth to her or just stay shut. But Derby and I… We’re best friends.
“Did you see him?” She asked.
And I nodded, giving her my answer.
She looked amused and went on to ask, having a smile on her face, “Is he as dangerous as the Royal family described him?”
I swayed my head, responding, “No… He’s nothing like that. In fact… He was the one who saved me from the Beta’s attack. That’s why he’s in that state.” I shared with Derby, who looked so thrilled to hear this from me.
“I knew he wasn’t bad!” She cheered, acting like someone who just won a bet. “The Queen kept painting him as some kind of monster who doesn’t care about innocent lives, but I kept hitting on it if you remember. I said maybe he’s just like the Werecat you helped that night.”
“Yep, you did say that,” I agreed, smiling at Derby.
She’s happy with the fact that Cadell is a good guy. Who knows how she’d react when she meets the guys and realize she already knows the Rogue?
Should I tell her?
“This is no lie, Evolet. You really are the late Luna’s copy.”
My heart glowed on hearing Derby’s take on me.
“It’s like you possess the gift to reach out to creatures Wolf Fall consider their enemies. It’s so… beautiful,” she admired, patting me on the head.
Her words made me proud of myself. I felt really special.
“Geez, thanks D,” I appreciated, hugging my best friend.
Now I felt the temptation to tell her about Cadell and Trent. I don’t know if I should do it or let the Goddess work things out herself.
“Now, describe how he looks. Did you perhaps see his face? I hope he’s not finer than my Trent?” Derby asked, grabbing my hands.
Her excitement made me happy. It took away my stress.
Just as we were talking, I felt my wolf sense kicking in fast. There was something coming at us from the right side of my eyes with speed!
“Derby!” I called loudly, pushing my friend off the bench quickly, before lowering backwards just to see another bench flying over me!
What the hell?!
The bench landed on the ground, breaking apart. It attracted the attention of passersby, who stopped to see what had happened.
“Evolet!” Derby called, rushing up to me.
I immediately sat up and turned to the direction where the bench came from. Only to be surprised by someone’s presence.
“Hell no. Not her!” Derby exclaimed, glaring at the person who attacked us.
It was the fallen mate herself… Fiona.
She stared at us furiously, holding a metal rod in her hand. Her presence had gotten the people’s attention, causing them to gather around.
After all, her secret with the Alpha is still the trending gist in the pack. Who would want to miss an opportunity like this?
“Evolet,” she called my name with pure hatred, pointing the rod at me.
“Oh boy, I do not like where this is going,” Derby muttered, swaying her head.
“I challenge you to a fight, right here… and right now.” She kicked another metal rod, which I didn’t see close to her feet earlier, right towards me. “Then we’ll see who’s better.” She smirked, tilting her head to the side.
Her open challenge thrilled the crowds, who took out their phones to record this moment. I wasn’t comfortable with this drama Fiona was creating. What does she want from me?
“Are you mad up there?” I pointed at my head so she’d understand, if she has lost her sense to understand things.
“Did the Queen’s decision scatter your thinking or did you wake up on the wrong side of the bed?” I asked, miffed with her sudden behavior.
“Who wakes up first thing in the morning and picks Violence as their first chores?!” Derby fired, standing next to me.
But it seems none of that was getting to Fiona. She looked so lost in her rage and desire to vent all her pain on me, through a fight.
I know she has no clue on who took that video. She must be mad with the fact that Alpha Allen publicly embarrassed and ruined her name before Wolf Fall.
The man was meant to be her husband and mate, but in a short period, she lost it all. And I bet she blames me for her fall, that’s why she’s here.
Besides, she saw it with her own eyes at the party. Allen was gawking at me nonstop. That Perverted Alpha must have rubbed his obsession for me in her face, adding to her bitterness.
“We’re going to see who’s better, Bestie. I will prove to everyone that I am a true fighter and I deserve to be called the Alpha’s Luna.”
“Then good luck with that. Maybe head down to the mansion and tell that to the Queen, so she can fix up a cheat-free match with you and the others? Because I see no good reason why you’d want to fight with me of all people. I wasn’t among the last damsels you fought with.”
“Don’t act so innocent, you Wolfless Omega!” she insulted, triggering a bit of my rage.
“I know you’re afraid to face me. Everyone thinks my fight has been nothing but a lie. They think I cheated! But I know for a fact that I am stronger than you and those other losers. I am way tougher and better than you, Evolet!” She raised her voice, still pointing her rod at me.
“So, you better pick up that rod and show this people how weak you are, Omega.”
Why is she emphasizing on that position? Has she forgotten she’s an Omega too?
“Then Allen will have no choice but to accept that I am worthy to be called his Luna… not you,” Fiona said, revealing the truth behind her challenge.
Always Allen. Gosh, I want to kill that man!
“Pick it, Evolet! PICK IT UP!!”
“NO!” I refused Fiona.
“I will not be a part of your drama. Just because you and Alpha Allen had an argument which involved me somehow, doesn’t mean I’ll accept this nonsense from you!” I vented out openly, glaring at Fiona.
“I will not fight you. It’s best you head back home and stay indoor. You are only humiliating yourself by doing this.”
Fiona began breathing heavily at my rejection. She tightened her grip on her rod, slowly lowering it down.
“Let’s go, Derby,” I said, ready to take Derby’s hand and leave. That’s when I caught Fiona using her wolf speed to launch her rod at us like a spare! Worst, it was coming straight at Derby who didn’t see this on time!
Quickly, I grabbed the other rod and forcefully slammed Fiona’s rod back at the raging queen, sending it falling right in front of her.
“Goddess!” Derby exclaimed at the sound the rod made when it struck Fiona’s.
The Wannabe Luna stared in shock when she saw the rod right at her feet. Looks like my swift response has affected her negatively.
She does not look happy.
She wasn’t the only one who was surprised. Derby was stunned with the fact that I was able to see the assail Fiona made at us. “How did you know she was going to attack?” She asked, glancing at Fiona and I.
The same expression on the people’s face. My quick reflex had caught their interest to this challenge even more.
“Alright Fiona.” I stepped forward, still keeping my gaze on her. “If it’s a fight you want…” I lifted the rod, pointing it right at Fiona. “Then you will get one. I accept your challenge.”
Her smile grew large deviously. She finally got what she wanted.
But I won’t be responsible for anything that happens after this. It’s her problem.
