EVOLET
When did Beta Dean get back from the hospital?!
The Royal family didn’t even bother to share this news with the public. Could it be that they want to keep his return a secret until he’s back on his feet again?
“Still, they should have said something. People like me deserve to know when a monster like him was released! Gosh! This is disturbing.” My body itched with disgust. I had to drag my feet back, creating a space between us.
I still remember what he did that night. If not for Cadell, I don’t think I would have forgiven myself for stupidly joining the hunt.
“Do my eyes deceive me?” Beta Dean said, slowing breaking out a smile. “Evolet,” he called my name, rolling his chair towards me.
Seeing this, I drew back once again, widening my eyes at this freak! The sight of his face brought nothing but hate for the Beta.
I was tempted to kick his head and send him rolling down the passage, but I was stopped by some else’s presence.
“Evolet?” I heard a familiar voice call out to me from the right hand side where I came from. I turned to look and found Alpha Allen staring in surprise.
“Him as well?! For the love of God!” I screamed in my head, wondering why this two had to show up at this time. Not just that… “Why is Allen here? I thought he was at the arena watching the game?” This looked like a set up to me.
But that suspicion faded after what I saw.
It was Beta Dean. The moment he saw Alpha Allen, his smile vanished. He looked scared as he wheeled his chair backwards, taking his eyes away from me.
“What was that?” I was surprised.
Allen drew closer to us and asked, smiling at me, “What are you doing in my home, Eve? Aren’t you supposed to be at the arena watching the games?”
He got closer with his hand brushing against mine. When I felt it, I took a big step to the side, avoiding both Alpha and his Beta from getting anywhere near.
Allen noticed but kept his smile on. He looked at Beta Dean and asked, “Are you the one that called her over, Dean? You know you aren’t fully recovered, yet you sent for Evolet.”
“No, I didn’t,” he responded quickly, swaying his head. “I just saw her walking by and thought she needed help with something.” He took a glance at me, but soon dropped his head down to avoid much eye contact with me.
Now this behavior felt so strange. It looked like Dean was afraid of Allen. I’m not sure, but that’s what I’m seeing.
“Is that so? But Evolet looks troubled. You’re sure you didn’t say anything to upset her?” Allen questioned, drawing closer to Dean. The Beta began to tremble in his wheelchair, swaying his head.
The sight of this made me uncomfortable, forcing me to speak up. “He didn’t say anything to me. I’m only here to find my wolf. He came into the mansion and now I can’t find him. I’m… I’m just surprised to see Beta Dean, that’s all,” I said, stopping Allen from nearing Dean any further.
Allen looked at me then back at his Beta. With a weird smile, he patted his crippled Beta and said, “You need to head back to your room now. The doctor is on his way to check up on you.”
“Alright, Alpha,” Dean obeyed, rolling himself towards an opened room two doors away from us.
“No wonder he appeared like a creep from behind. He saw when I walked pass his room. I’m glad he’s gone, but now I’m left with the pervert himself.” I glared at Allen, who kept on watching Beta Dean heading back to his room.
Seeing how focused he was, I carefully dragged my feet back, planning my escape. But Allen turned over to face me, forcing me to halt.
He smirked at me and asked, “You said your wolf came into my mansion?”
“Yeah, he did.” I nodded, stepping to the side on seeing him making a move towards me. “He’s probably playing around here somewhere, now that he’s familiar with this place.”
“True. After all, you were living under my roof during the game. Among the damsels who craved to be my Luna,” he said, reminding me of the past.
I see what he’s doing, but it ain’t working.
I hummed at Allen and walked pass him, calling out to Cadell, “Wolfy! Please come out, boy!”
“Let me help you with your search. I’m sure if we work together, we’ll find your pet on time,” Allen offered, following me from behind.
“No, thank you. I think I can handle it on my own,” I rejected, increasing my speed.
“I insist, Evolet!” Allen raised his voice, grabbing my hand from behind. And the moment I felt his grip, I turned over and pulled his hand off mine, glaring at him.
When Allen saw the anger in my eyes, he gave me his weird smile again, lifting both hands in the air, apologizing, “I’m sorry. I just want to help you out. Don’t take it the wrong way.”
Repulsive! I only came here to solve one problem and now this creep is at his own to it. “I can’t stay here anymore. Where’s Cadell?” I directed my eyes at the direction I came from, hoping Cadell would show up. But no sign of him yet.
“Wait, my necklace,” I remembered, flashing to what Cadell had said that night. “If he can feel me through the necklace, then I’m sure he’ll come.” Carefully, I touched the little wolf, rubbing it with my finger while muttering, “You better get down here, Pervy Wolf. Allen is at it again!”
“That’s a nice necklace,” Allen said, looking at my neck. “It’s different from the first one you had. Did one of your boyfriends give it to you?” He questioned with jealousy in his eyes.
This man is sick.
Lifting my brow at him, I asked, “Aren’t you supposed to be at the arena watching the game? Don’t you want to see which damsel is going to be your future Queen?”
“My necklace was a hundred times better than this ugly thing around your neck. It had expensive crystals meant to bring out a woman’s beauty. Instead of accepting it, you went for this garbage?!” He pointed, getting provoked by my necklace.
Okay, someone is crossing the line here.
“First of all, Alpha Pretty Boy, not every lady accepts gifts from men who thinks they have a authority over them! Just because you’re the Alpha of this pack, doesn’t mean you have the right to take any woman against their wish. I had no interest in your gift and still don’t! And this beautiful piece you see on me was given to me by my boyfriend, Yes! And it’s a symbol of his love for me,” I bragged, caressing the beads so that he would see how much I love it.
Allen began to heat up with rage. He rubbed his face down with his hand, chuckling out to ease the anger he was feeling.
When I saw this, I began to step back, making a turn to leave. Only for Allen to rush up to my front, stopping me immediately!
What’s wrong with this madman?!
“Still, it doesn’t change the fact that I was the first person you fell in love with!” He poked my shoulder, trying to prove a point.
“Oh my Goodness!” I groaned, placing my arms on my head.
I’m the one who made the mistake by coming here, now I’m receiving lectures from this Subvert. Goddess, where is Cadell?!
“You were crazy about me, Evolet. You wanted me to notice you. You wanted to be my Luna, that’s why you joined the hunt. But all of a sudden, you stopped loving me and decided to leave the game for that commoner!”
I rolled my eyes, crossing my arms while listening to Allen yammer about the past. Something that I’ve dumped way behind me. It’s now he remembers that Evolet used to love him then. What a story.
“I know you left on purpose to run away from the feelings you had for me, Eve. I am not a fool.”
“What nonsense are you talking about now? Please, can I go and find my wolf?!”
“It’s not nonsense. You know what I’m saying,” he said, almost touching me. But I avoided it, preventing his hand from reaching my shoulder.
“That fight with Fiona… You lost it on purpose,” he said, surprising me.
“There’s no way Allen noticed that fight. The fool was busy praising Fiona that day. He’s just assuming,” I believed
“I am a fighter myself and I know when I see a skillful warrior. You won that match but allowed Fiona to take your place. She’s… she’s not meant to be out there battling, but you. I’m supposed to be sitting at that arena, watching you fight to be by my side as my Luna. But you left me, Eve,” he spoke, sounding emotional.
“You just left, wiping me out of your heart. Why? Is it because I chased you away that day?” he asked, referring to his behaviour at his study room.
“I’m sorry, Evolet. I wasn’t in my right mind that day. Someone had made me angry and I didn’t know when I allowed it to shadow my mind. Honestly, I felt bad and wanted to apologize, but I was so busy. If only I had done what was right, you wouldn’t have left me.”
He drew close, tempted to touch my face. But he just paused, sighing out. “I wish you never left, Evolet. You don’t know how much I miss your face. It’s hard to think without you popping in my head all day. You’re the only one I think about.” He wiped his face down.
“Don’t… don’t you get it, Eve?” He suddenly grabbed my hands in a tight grip, acting like a maniac. “I am in love with you. I really love you.”
I widened my eyes, finding this uncomfortable.
“The Goddess keeps showing me this signs that you are the one meant for me. She doesn’t want my mate to end up with a man who can’t give her the life she deserves.” He held on tight, trying to convince me to belief his so-called love confession.
“I love you, Evolet. And I know there’s still a spark for me deep inside your heart. Just try to let it out, please Evolet.”
“Allen,” I called, tilting my head to the side to have a good look at his face. “You’re right when you said the Goddess doesn’t want me to end up with a man who can’t give me the life I deserve.”
“See, I knew you understood me,” he said, feeling pleased.
“That’s why she took me away from this place, so that I wouldn’t end up in your arms.”
“What?” His eyes widened, shocked at my statement.
I smirked with pride, making it clear to Allen. “Your so-called love for me… is madness. You don’t love me, Allen. You’re just confused.”
“Stop calling it madness!” He groaned, stiffening his grip on me. “I love you, Evolet, and that’s the truth!”
“Hmm, I wonder how many women you’ve used this line to sway. Just that I’m not among that list.” I chuckled, enjoying the rage all over him.
“You’re being stubborn. Why won’t you accept the truth that you love me too?!”
“I’ll advice you take your hands off me before you loose them. If you still don’t want to listen, then it’s your fault.” I shrugged, warning Allen in advance.
The crazy Alpha didn’t want to listen. It’s until he saw a wide opened mouth with long teeth coming for his hands, that he did what was right, averting the judgement my sweet Cadell almost passed on him.
Pervy Wolf was angry. He came running at Allen, about to jump on his body with force. But I dived in and held him in an embrace, stopping him from killing Allen by acting joyful on seeing him. “Where have you been, you crazy wolf?!” I squeezed him close, feeling so relieved.
“You don’t know how worried I was feeling.” I scrubbed his fur, kissing him on the forehead.
Cadell was still growling at Allen with a murderous gaze, while Allen glared at him and said, pointing, “One day I’ll put your dog in the place he belongs. He doesn’t belong in our pack!’
“Says the man that claims to love me,” I mocked, rising to my feet. “Have a lovely evening, Alpha. May the Goddess choose your true mate at the end of the game.” I bowed, walking pass him.
Allen was boiling. I could see his hands itching to reach out to mine, but he was scared of Cadell. Despite being an Alpha, he’s afraid of my Wolf’s wrath. He’s lucky Cadell didn’t render him armless.
As we were getting closer to the door… “YOU!” Cadell and I heard from behind, recognizing the voice that just yelled at us.
“Oh shit!” My heart skipped.
I turned around and found sorceress Thelma at the top of the staircase, glaring at me.
“Evolet! What are you doing here with that pest of yours?!” She roared, struggling down the stairs, holding her waist.
This is what I was trying to avoid. But I can’t escape this. I’ll just give her the same storyline I gave Allen.
“Your dog almost broke my bones with his recklessness!”
Oh, looks like someone angered the Sorceress. No wonder he took long to show up.
Joining both hands together, I began to apologize to the sorceress on behalf of Cadell. “Please, forgive him. Wolfy ran out from the arena and ended up here. I came to…”
“She came to find him, so I gave her the go ahead,” Allen interrupted, covering for me!
Sorceress Thelma looked at the Alpha, who stepped forward with a calm mood, permitting me to leave. “You found him, so you are free to go.”
“Thank you, Alpha,” I bowed, setting my eyes on him.
He stared back, suppressing his anger from the argument we just had. But his action still proves nothing to me. He’s just trying so hard to get me.
Sorceress Thelma hummed and warned, “If your dog ever steps his legs into this mansion again, I’ll change him into a maggot.”
“I’m sure he’ll take note. Thank you.” Quickly, we left the mansion, hurrying back to the Arena.
But due to the stress from Allen, I sat under a tree far from the arena, catching my breathe. Since no one was around, Cadell shifted into his human form and sat next to me, directing his attention at the mansion.
“I didn’t feel anything. I had to invade that Old hags shrine while she was sleeping and found nothing.”
“If she was sleeping, then how did she wake up?”
“I accidentally knocked something off her table when I heard your call,” he answered, dimming his eyes at me with a frown on his face.
On seeing how he eyed me, I understood what Cadell was implying. “Wait, are you saying it’s my fault the sorceress woke up?” I gasped, watching him look the other way, giving me the answer.
“How dare you?! I was there with that annoying man who was trying to win me over with his madness, hoping you’ll help me! But no! You were busy breaking an old lady’s bones!”
“She’s lying, I didn’t break her bones! Didn’t you see how she was walking down the stairs? If I did break her skeleton, she won’t make it out of her room,” he defended himself boldly.
Hearing his own side of the story, I asked, “So, she fell herself?”
“Yes.”
“How did she fall?”
“Forgot how to get out of her own bed and landed face flat to the ground, cracking her rusted waist bone. It was sweet to watch.” He grinned, rubbing his palm deviously.
I busted into laughter, wishing I had witnessed it myself. But you know how it went.
“Allen won’t be lucky next time,” Cadell said, leaning closer to me with his head falling on my shoulder. “If he touches you with those dirty hands again, I promise I’ll rip them off. Don’t care if they blame the Rogue. They should teach their Alpha how to keep his hands off other people’s property,” Cadell grumbled, snuggling next to me.
He didn’t see how I gazed at him when he said all that. It planted a glow within me, warming my heart.
.
The game was finally over. Cadell and I returned back to the arena to see Fiona being announced as the winner, jubilating like crazy. Her mother was with her, hitting her chest to show that she gave birth to Fiona.
Derby was angry. She kept yelling that the match didn’t make any sense. “I know what I’m saying. It looked like the other’s were just giving themselves to her, so she’d win!” She complained, frowning at this.
Me, I didn’t really care about the hunt. As long as it’s over, I am happy.
That’s when Fiona said something to the people, causing my blood to boil at once. “I have been a faithful and pure damsel, praying to the Goddess to help me win this hunt. Even when my ex-bestfriend stabbed me at the back, trying to shatter my hopes and dreams, I still struggled and fought to be here today before my lovely people, as your future Luna,” she shared, shedding fake tears.
I glared at her, knowing who she was referring to with that speech.
“I back stabbed you? Alright Fiona. I’m going to give you what you want. A back stabbing ex-bestfriend at your service.”
