EVOLET
The final battle was here at last.
Mom, as usual, didn’t show any interest in the game but gave me the go ahead to attend it with Derby.
Derby was excited about it while I was focused on Queen Chriselda and the Sorceress. My own plan is to get into the mansion and search around for any piece linking to my wolf. Only then will I have peace of mind.
“Hurry up!” Derby dragged me into the crowded arena, grabbing a seat for us quickly, right at the front.
“Are Trent and Cadell coming?” She asked, holding Kitty in her arms while looking back to see if she’ll spot them.
“No. They have something important to do,” I lied, patting Cadell on his head, so he’ll be ready for my signal.
“Oh, okay,” Derby said, sounding unhappy. But she smiled when Kitty meowed at her, blooming her heart. “We’re going to enjoy the games without them. And we see them, we laugh in their faces! Isn’t that right?” She caressed Kitty.
Gosh! Derby is so innocent. I wonder how she’d react when she comes to know the truth one day. Till then, let them have their fun.
The game soon started with Queen Chriselda welcoming the people to the finals, sharing her delight with the journey so far.
“Tonight will mark the night my son, Alpha Allen of Wolf Falls, will meet his Luna and true mate. It will mark the day Wolf Falls welcomes their future Luna!” She raised her arms, receiving the cheers and applauds from the people.
I glared at the Queen with disgust. The more I looked at her face, the more her devilish side from the past appears before my eyes.
I got so annoyed that I looked away, only for Derby to ask while clapping, “What happened? Headaches?”
“Nah, I’m just thinking of something, that’s all.”
“Same here. I’m hoping one of the girls beat Fiona tonight. I don’t want a Witch for a Queen.” She pretended to choke, making me laugh.
Just then, Derby said, pointing out something I didn’t notice earlier, “Is it just me or is the Queen putting on a pretty black pendant?” She signaled with her head, so I’d turn and see for myself.
“A Pendent?” I turned and looked, noticing the black stone around her neck. “You’re right. She’s wearing a pendent. First time I’m seeing that.”
“Maybe I’ll get myself one. The sight of the jewelry is attractive,” Derby planned, imagining one around her.
I hummed, taking one more look at the Queen. But I turned away out of detest, getting impatient of waiting any longer. After all, I didn’t come here to watch the damsels fight. I’m here on a mission.
Looking at Cadell, I signaled him to begin the task. He nodded and left the arena, while I acted absentminded, watching the first round of the match.
It started with Fiona and another damsel going head to head.
Like almost all her fights, she won this one swiftly, marveling the crowds. They chanted her name loudly, showing their support in her. Only Derby was shouting ‘BOO’ dropping the thumbs down. “We don’t want a Witch! BOO!”
Seeing how the people rose to their feet, clapping and singing Fiona’s name… “Oh my God!” I exclaimed, getting Derby’s attention.
“What happened?” She asked worriedly.
I pointed at the spot Cadell was sitting and said, getting off my seat, “I have to find Wolfy. Who knows what kind of trouble he’s getting himself into.”
“Okay, just be careful!” Derby yelled out while I raced off, exiting the arena.
Out in the open, I made my way to the mansion to start my operation. Outside the gate stood two guards. When they saw me approaching them, they immediately stood in my path, demanding to know where I was heading to.
“My Wolf. You remember him, don’t you? I think he came this way?”
“Oh, I remember you. You’re that damsel with a pet wolf,” one of the guards recognized.
“Yeah, that’s me! Please, my Wolf came this way. I need to go inside and find him,” I said, taking a step. But they still blocked my way, pushing me back a bit.
“We cannot allow you in.”
“And your wolf didn’t come through this place. If he did, we would know.”
“Okay, then how do you explain that?” I asked, pointing at the door of the mansion.
When the guards turned, they saw Cadell running into the mansion, hoping around like a playful wolf on the loose.
“What?!”
“How did he get inside?!” They were shocked.
“Please, let me through. I need to get him back before he causes any problem. I would have suggested you two, but that wolf can be stubborn. I have my ways of getting him to listen,” I claimed, begging them.
Having no choice, they agreed to let me in, making me promise them that I’d return on time before Allen or the Queen spots me. “They cannot find you in their home. Move quickly.”
“Thank you,” I appreciated, dashing inside to chase Cadell.
I pretended to chase Cadell to make the guards believe my lies. But as soon as we where out of sight, I ran into a corner with Cadell and made plans with him on how we’d operate. “We’ll keep up with the fake chase while searching for clues, okay?”
“Alright,” Cadell responded, nodding at me.
He took the staircase while I went through the lower floor, calling out to him while looking around.
Somehow this mission was beginning to look difficult in my eyes. I didn’t have a clue on how I was going to trace this energy piece of mine. Only Cadell can do that with ease. “The only way is through my necklace.” I lowered my eyes down on the wolf around my neck. “I might be able to feel it when my power is active. But I can’t take that risk of getting caught by the sorceress and the Queen. It’s best I leave it for Cadell,” I decided, still searching.
As I kept moving around, calling out to Cadell, someone suddenly held my hand from behind, causing my body to shiver.
One thing I know is that the hand didn’t belong to my Cadell. Pervy Wolf wouldn’t shift into his human form in the enemies territory. Then who’s this?
Looking back, I was struck by horror, forcing my hand out of the grip of this person!
“Beta Dean?” I called, looking at the Beta who sat in his wheelchair, fixing his gaze at me.
When did he get back?
