EVOLET
It was nine thirty in the morning. My eyes felt a bit heavy from my second nap. It made me uncomfortable, forcing me to stay awake until the sun was out.
I had another dream about the late Luna and Queen Chriselda. They were sitting in the mansion’s living room. It decor looked different and better than the way it is currently.
They were talking about something inaudibly, making gestures with their hands and laughing. When Luna Violet got to her feet, I met her gazing straight at me letting out a smile.
She beckoned me over to her side, saying, “It’s okay. Come sit with us.” She stretched out her hand to me.
I decided to listen and walked up to her, reaching out to take hold of her hand. As soon as the tip of my fingers touched hers, the whole room disappeared. I found myself in that same horrible storm, hearing both Cadell and Luna Violet calling out to each other.
I tried to make my way out but felt something sharp going through my chest from behind! I was in so much pain and couldn’t move.
But when I managed to turn my head over, I found Queen Chriselda gazing into my eyes with pure evil resting within those glowing balls.
She grinned hungrily and whispered straight into my ear, “Your reign is over, Violet. Goodbye.”
When I heard that, I woke up.
That prevented me from going back to sleep. I couldn’t take that scenario out of my head! It felt so real.
“What is wrong with you?”
“Huh?” I uttered on hearing Mom’s voice. That got me turning my head to the side just to find her staring at me from the kitchen door.
She had her arms crossed, looking surprised.
“Yes Mom?” I asked, wondering if she had said something and I failed to listen.
“Are you okay?” She asked, drawing closer to the couch.
“Yes, I am,” I responded, sitting properly before dropping my hand on Cadell, who laid next to me on the couch, sleeping.
Mom hummed, doubting my response. She placed her hand on my forehead and said, “Your temperature is fine. You seem okay from the outside, but not on the inside.”
“Mom, I’m fine,” I giggled, dropping my attention on Cadell. “Nothing is wrong with me.”
“Are you sure? I’m finding it hard to believe your words. You have been acting funny ever since I returned from work. It feels weird,” She said, showing her concern for me. “Look, it’s okay to tell me what is bothering you, Eve. I’m your mother. Just talk to me.”
“Mom,” I called, talking hold of her hand and squeezing it gently. “I’m good.”
She stared at me and gave out a sigh. Then she said, carefully dragging her feet back to the kitchen, “If that’s your answer then… Fine. If you need anything, just let me know, okay?”
“Thank you,” I appreciated, dropping my attention on Cadell again.
From the corner of my eyes, I could still see Mom standing there, watching me. I was about to turn and look when I heard Trent meowing from the same direction as my Mom.
“Oh, Kitty. Are you hungry? Come with me,” She said, picking Trent and taking him to the Kitchen.
I directed my focus to my Pervy wolf, who was fast asleep right next to me.
When I woke up from my second dream, I found him sitting outside my window, watching the stars. He stayed outside all night, keeping watch like a guard, until my mother came home this morning at nine. That’s when he came inside and passed out right here, next to me.
He looked so adorable and tempting to cuddle with. I didn’t want to wake him from his nap but… “I bet he won’t mind,” I said, carefully placing his head on my lap with my fingers stroking his hair.
He gave out a peaceful sigh, indicating how relaxed he was. This bloomed my heart, planting a smile on my face.
I found myself thinking of the kiss and Cadell’s naughty words. It made my whole body vibrate just reminiscing on it.
“I should have gone outside and stayed with him when I woke up. He was all alone. I would have kept him comfortable and shielded him from the cold. That’s if Cadell doesn’t beat me to it first.” I chuckled.
“This naughty wolf would have done more than keeping me warm. Silly,” I giggled, looking at him.
“Still…” My mind went to the dream, replaying the storm scene in my head. I no longer saw it as a dream but flashes from the past between Cadell and the late Luna.
I mean I saw her shifting into my wolf. If my beast belongs to her, then that means I’m bearing a part of the late Queen in me. And Cadell… He’s someone special to her.
Is that why he’s attracted to me because of Luna Violet?
KNOCK! KNOCK!! The sound snapped me out of my thoughts, forcing me to turn around to look at the door.
“Who could that be?” I wondered, carefully placing Cadell’s head down and rushing to check the door.
On opening it, I was surprised to see Derby standing outside my home with so much excitement on her face.
“EVE!” She shrieked, jumping into my arms for an embrace.
“Derby? How did you find my place?” I asked, still surprised.
She lifted her brow at me and asked, “Is that how you react when you see your friend? Gosh, you need a smack on your face.” She fake-tapped my cheek playfully.
This was astonishing. I wasn’t expecting her to show up at my place.
Or is it because of… “Goodness, Last night’s game! We forgot to see her after her fight!”
“Who’s that, Evolet?” I heard Mom’s voice from behind, startling me. I turned around and found her standing close.
“Mom… This is my friend, Derby. We met at the hunt.” That’s the only info I could give her.
Mom looked at Derby, who immediately greeted my mother respectfully, introducing herself as my best friend. Yep, my best friend.
“It’s great to finally meet you, Ma’am,” She said, smiling at my mother.
“Hmm, same here. Didn’t know my daughter had someone close. She rarely speaks of it,” Mom said, directing her gaze on me.
I had to look away to avoid eye contact with her. I bet she has so many things to say after this.
“She’s a great friend and a good… KITTY!” Derby shrieked out excitedly on seeing Trent standing next to Mom. Even Trent was stunned when he saw Derby. His pupils shrunk, glancing from my side then back at Derby.
“Come Kitty, Come,” She went on her knees, calling him over.
Trent stared at Derby for a few seconds before responding to her. He carefully walked up to her, allowing her to pick him up.
Derby hugged Trent and kissed him on the forehead, saying,” How are you, my furry friend? I hope you’ve been a good boy? Yes, you have.” She caressed him lovingly, not knowing that the cat in her hold is the same person she’s crushing on.
I thought Trent would misbehave like Cadell, but he didn’t. He stayed in Derby’s arms, amusing my mother. “Waw, I didn’t know Kitty was fond of you. You must be his friend,” She said, smiling at Derby.
That’s when Mom invited Derby into our home, giving me the go ahead to keep her company. “Make your friend feel at home,” She said, looking pleased with this.
Her behavior felt scary to me because I know how she reacts when she hears the word ‘Friend’ around me. She always act creepy, trying to keep me away from people who wish to be my friend.
That’s how it was with Fiona. She didn’t like Fiona from day one because of her mother, but I stood on my ground stubbornly and got what I wanted. Now I regret ever trusting that backstabbing witch.
But looking at Mom’s reaction towards Derby, I think she likes her.
“You ladies have fun,” Mom said, excusing us. Before she exited the living room, she had given me a smile which planted a spark in me.
I hope she’s okay?
“Your Mom is sweet,” Derby commented.
As a response, I grinned without any word.
“Aww! Wolfy is asleep? He looks so cute!” Derby said on seeing Cadell. She had to sit at the other end of the couch, running her hand gently on Cadell’s back. “Poor guy looks tired. You should give him a special treatment, Eve,” She advised, wrapping her arms around Trent.
Now Trent looked like one who was about to pass out from too much snuggles.
Silly Cat. He’s beginning to pick some of Cadell’s trait.
“Come on now. Take care of him,” Derby advised once again, pointing at Cadell.
“Alright, fine. I’m doing it,” I accepted, carefully placing Cadell on my lap. But surprisingly, he sluggishly sat on my lap and dropped his head on my shoulder, cuddling himself on me. This made my heart glow at his action. I felt touched.
“Oh my God! So beautiful! Wait!” Derby quickly took out her phone and said, “Hold him. I need to take a picture.”
Well, I found that idea nice. I wrapped my arms around Cadell, squeezing him close to feel his warmth.
Like Derby said, It’s indeed beautiful.
Derby took the picture and showed it to me, giving it a name. “Mother and child. How’s that?”
“Nice one. I bet he’ll love it when he sees it too,” I chuckled, holding my pervy wolf close, feeling pleased with the way the picture came out.
Derby had to take one with Trent, putting it as her wallpaper. The moment she placed her phone aside, I asked about her family. “I hope they are okay with your decision?”
Derby paused for a few moment before grinning out, replying to my question, “Oh, they are fine with it. They support my decision.” She nodded, taking her gaze elsewhere.
“Oh, that’s good then. I thought they were going to eat you after what you did,” I laughed.
Derby chuckled and joked about her family’s past request in making her join the hunt. “At least I enjoyed myself before leaving that place. It’s no longer fun to stay in when your best friend isn’t there. It was the best thing to do.”
“Right, the best,” I smirked, knowing well that Derby didn’t just quit because of friendship, but Trent. I could tell from her mood during the fight last night. She kept looking at my direction, hoping Trent would show up, and that forced her to make up her mind.
Honestly, it’s the best.
“Yes! I almost forgot,” She said, drawing closer to me, whispering, “Something happened last night.”
“Really?” I drew nearer too.
Derby nodded and shared the info. “At the arena last night, we all saw something red fading away from Wolf fall, right above the arena.”
When she mentioned that, I recalled the red barrier sorceress Thelma placed around Wolf Fall and what Cadell told me.
“Everyone panicked, thinking something bad was about to happen, but the Queen told us this morning that our pack was under attack by that Rogue.”
“She said that?” I uttered, realizing the Queen’s knowledge on last night’s incident.
“Yes. And worst, Gamma Dave and four of his men were found half dead. The Rogue had beaten them up while trying to escape, but failed to leave Wolf Fall because of Sorceress Thelma. She used her powers right at the arena to stop the Rogue from leaving. She’s strong.”
“I see,” I said, knowing that to be a big lie.
Trent already gave me an update on the sorceress’s so-called shield. It withered away when my wolf unleashed it’s powers. The Queen is only putting the people in the dark by cooking up that story of Cadell being trapped.
All of them are liars.
“When I heard what happened to Gamma Dave, I was happy. That bully got what he deserves after what he did to my bestie,” Derby said, showing her delight in the news.
She still means him for tormenting me back then.
“Just like the Alpha Cat, I bet that Rogue is a good person. The Queen is fond of assuming every creature outside Wolf Fall is a threat. Maybe if you come across him, you’ll be able to prove to everyone that he’s not an enemy,” Derby said, stroking Trent’s hair.
When she said that, something flashed in my head. It was another image of the late Luna and Queen Chriselda!
“That Dark Blood can’t be trusted, Violet! He’s evil!” Queen Chriselda yelled at Luna Violet, while the Luna glared at her, saying, “For the last time, Christy, He’s not an enemy! If you want me to prove it to you, then so be it. Cadell is a part of us.”
“VIOLET!” Queen Chriselda roared out loudly, filling the room with darkness. That’s when I saw Sorceress Thelma appearing behind her with a silver sword coated with something black, giving it to Chriselda.
Then before my eyes, she charged at the late Luna, forcing me out of this vision in a fright!
I was breathing heavily.
“Evolet, what happened? Are you okay?” Derby asked worriedly, placing her hand on my shoulder.
“I’m… I’m fine,” I lied, trying to catch my breathe before noticing the shoulder Derby was touching was the same place Cadell was resting on. I looked forward and found Cadell staring into my eyes.
“Goodness, I woke him when I panicked,” I assumed, feeling upset with myself.
But I was wrong.
Cadell looked down at my chest then back at my face, revealing what exactly woke him up. It was my heart. He felt my heart beat racing fast and woke to check up on me.
“Sorry,” I apologized to him, caressing his face. To show his concern, Cadell placed his forehead on mine, calming my racing heart. He knows what I need.
I felt Trent placing his head on my hand to comfort me, then Derby wrapped her arms around my body, promising to take away all my worries away.
“You now have me,” She said sweetly.
This felt so peaceful. It’s just what I need to get myself.
.
“The barrier is gone. This means we can leave Wolf Fall before that Sorceress places another force around the pack,” Trent said, sitting next to me.
“Right. Even if she wants to create another shield, it’s going to take her ages. I know that for sure,” Cadell said, crossing his arms and leaning against the wall.
While they spoke about their plans to take me out of Wolf Fall, I was busy gathering all the details from the dream I’ve been having about the late Queen and Chriselda.
To me, it felt like a hidden message. Like my wolf is trying to tell me something.
“So, what do you say, Eve?” Cadell asked, gaining my attention. “Do you want to live in Kitty’s pack or run far away with this charming wolf to paradise?” He flirted, throwing air kisses at me.
Their care for me made me happy. But it’s up to me to make a decision.
Rising to my feet, I said, “All these ideas are great. Taking me far away from the Royal is not a bad plan… but for how long will I hide?”
I noticed the change on their faces when I asked that question, mostly on Cadell’s.
“I didn’t want to tell you guys about this but I have no choice. I… I had a dream. No, three dreams about the late Luna Violet.” On mentioning her name, Cadell’s eyes popped out of curiosity. He lowered his arms and drew away from the wall, just to hear me out.
That’s the reaction I expected from him. I knew that name would have an affect on him.
“Luna Violet?” Trent mentioned.
I nodded and went on to tell them about her closeness with Queen Chriselda and the storm. I didn’t mention the part where Cadell kept calling out to her. I didn’t feel like adding that. But I spoke about the third vision and how the Queen was arguing with Luna Violet over Cadell.
“From those dreams, I noticed that they all had Queen Chriselda in it. All she ever did was stand against Luna Violet or make an attack on her. Like…” I looked down on my chest, recalling the pain I felt. “Stabbing her right in the chest,” I mustered, feeling the chills.
“Somehow, I feel my wolf or Luna Violet herself, wants me to stay in Wolf Fall and attend to something important. And that important assignment has to do with the Queen.”
“But Evolet, you can’t stay here,” Trent objected, standing next to me. “Cadell,” he called, looking at him. “Say something.”
I stared at him, waiting to hear his take on my decision.
That’s when he smirked, swaying his head. “Old habits do die hard,” He said, biting down on his lower lip, with his eyes falling on me.
And just like that… “Alright…. We’ll do as you wish,” Cadell agreed, supporting my decision.
Trent was at first bothered, but he just accepted the change of plan because of Cadell. Since when did he start listening to Pervy Wolf?
“But we’ll still visit my pack. I really want you two to come with me to see my people,” Trent invited, smiling at Cadell and I.
Cadell agreed, tapping Trent on the back, saying, “Until then, keep doing your work as the last child in this house.”
“What?!” Trent exclaimed, looking at Cadell in shock.
He snapped his finger at Trent and ordered, “Fetch me a drink, little man.”
Trent glared at Cadell, saying while exiting the room, “I swear I’m going to get back at you. Just watch and see.”
I laughed, finding this funny.
When I looked at Cadell to scold him for treating Trent like that, Pervy Wolf was already staring at me, smirking.
The sight of his face expression made my body heat up. Now I know why he sent Trent away.
“So…” he said, drawing closer to me. “Your dreams… What else did you see?”
“Um… nothing else aside from the Queen and Luna Violet,” I lied, trying not to look at him.
“Just them? But you said the Luna mentioned my name. Surely you must have seen something else.”
Sneaky wolf. He’s trying to get more details from me. I’ll give him something juicy since that’s what he wants.
Smiling, I said, ” Yeah, funny enough I did see something.”
“Really?” He stood in my front, patiently waiting. “Do tell.”
“There was an old man named Cadell flirting with the whole ladies. He was mean and nasty! The women had to chase him away, but the stubborn pervy old man wouldn’t budge. I felt like helping the women, but…” I shrugged, “It’s only a dream.”
On hearing that, Cadell frowned. He tapped my head, forcing laughter out of my mouth.
“Did you get what you want, Grandpa Cadell?”
“Point of correction, it’s sexy Cadell. You can’t find a good looking hunk like me out there. I’m every ladies’ dream,” he bragged, raising his arms.
Still, it felt amazing to me. “I’m still shocked. You are way older than me. And your body is still looking… nice.”
“Are you sure nice is the right word?” He smirked, pulling me into his arms. I chuckled, trying to push him off, but Cadell wouldn’t let go.
He carefully lifted my face and said softly, “You don’t find my body nice… but irresistible.”
My heart began to race, as I gulped down hard, unable to look away.
“I saw how your eyes flashed when we kissed. You were hypnotized by my charm. Now…” He ran his fingers across my face, causing my body to shiver with pleasure. “I am dying to see how your body reacts when we…”
“Excuse me!” Quickly, I pulled myself out of Cadell’s hold, racing out of the room.
That man is something else!
I swear, he’s going to kill me one day with his tempting figure.
