EVOLET
“What makes you say that?” I finally got my voice, lifting my brow at Trent.
He had his mouth opened at first but went shut. Then with a light smile, he said, “Don’t mind me. I think I’m just assuming things.” He chuckled, rubbing the back of his neck.
“Today’s encounter with your friend is just getting to my head. You know I’m an Alpha, and as a man of Royalty, I find it hard to relate with anyhow person, especially people outside my kind.”
“I think I understand you,” I said, showing him my support.
Trent sighed and nodded his head, saying, “Forget about the question. I’m sure Derby isn’t that bad. She’s even better than Cadell. If I can live with that kind of guy under one roof, then why not Derby?”
I laughed on hearing Cadell’s name from his mouth. “I’m going to agree with you on that,” I chuckled along with Trent, who got to his feet and said, drawing closer to the window, “You’re right. I just need more time to understand her. There’s no harm in that.”
“Now that’s much better,” I agreed, rising to my feet as well.
Trent hummed and then took an excuse. “I need to attend to something. It won’t take long.”
“No problem. Just be safe, Kitty,” I winked, receiving a smile from Trent, who shifted into his cat form and dashed out through the window to attend to whatever assignment he was after.
“It’s all about time,” I uttered, thinking about Derby’s crush on Trent.
I’m not gonna lie. I wanted to take my conversation with Trent to a whole new level by talking about Derby, but before that plan could set in, he threw that question, almost as if he knew what was in my mind.
“I’m glad I averted that on time. Who knows how he’d react if I had told him to give Derby a try?” I sighed, shutting the window close.
“Derby feels drawn to him, but Trent doesn’t have any feelings for her. And the last thing I want to do is get involved in something like this. It’s best I allow the goddess handle this case on her own. If Derby is the one for Trent, then let it be.”
“EVOLET!” Mom yelled my name from the living room. “Come here quickly!”
“COMING!” I shouted, rushing out of my room.
Getting to there, I found Cadell resting his head on Mom’s lap while she just sat there on the couch, stroking his fur.
“Yes Mom?” I answered, drawing closer and wondering why she sent for me.
That’s when she pointed the table at the corner and told me to get the paper bag. “I left something inside for you,” She said without looking at me.
“Okay.” I walked up to the table, opened the bag and found something surprising waiting for me inside the bag.
“A phone?” I gasped, taking out the set with my eyes falling on my mother.
“I was at the market today and thought about getting you one. You’re a matured lady Eve, and it’s high time you got a phone. That way I can communicate with you whenever I want,” Mom said, still keeping her eyes on Cadell.
This was amazing! My mother got me a phone? But how? “Where did you get the money for this, Mom?” I asked, feeling worried.
The phone may not be the latest model like the one Trent got for me, but it still costs a lot in the market. And when it comes to the family’s finances, I know we don’t have much on ground. So, where did she get the money to buy one?
Due to my question, Mom finally lifted her head to face me, responding to me. “I got a side work at the market together. The biscuit store needed someone to work at night making their cookies, so since I have a little experience in that field, I applied for it and they gave me an upfront pay. That’s where I got the money to buy your phone. Any other question?” She asked grumpily, lifting her brow.
“You got a job? That’s wonderful!” I rejoiced, feeling happy for my Mom. She just scoffed at me, resuming with her strokes on Cadell.
“Congratulations, Mom! Since you have a job, won’t it be nice if I joined you at the store? I mean we can both work together to help the home financially. You know how hard it is to get a nice job in this pack. It’s stressful. But working along with you would be perfect. What do you say?” I asked, finding this as an opportunity for us.
But Mom found that idea unnecessary.
“It’s a No.”
“But why?”
“Eve, I got that job to take care of this home as your mother. Your job is to stay here and do anything I say.” She tapped Cadell, making him rise so she could get off the couch.
“Staying indoor won’t help, Mom. I want to do something for the home. If we work together, we can…”
“I’m sorry, Eve, but I won’t be in support of that. Don’t forget that when you tried to help the home, you joined that Luna hunt. And now you’re one of the pack’s trending topic, thanks to that crazy Alpha.”
“Mom, please.”
“You’re not going to get a job, Eve. Let me do the work,” She stood her ground, refusing my request.
I wasn’t happy with her rejection. It’s just like old times repeating all over.
Mom sighed and said, rubbing her face down, “Evolet, just let me do my job. I’m trying my best to plan for your future here. One day you’ll be meeting your future mate and I’d need to make sure things go well for your day! When you’ve finally settled down with the right man, you can get yourself a job and do as you please. But for now, let your mother handle things, okay?”
I get her message clearly. She thinks I might mess things up or get into some kind of problem. But just to please her, I agreed to her wish.
“Good. I start tomorrow evening. But you’ll do a little assignment for me in the morning,” She said, walking pass me to pick up the paper bag I left on the table. “You’ll pick my dress from the tailor. I want to make sure I start my job looking presentable.”
“Alright, Mom,” I responded, lowering my gaze down to the phone in my hands.
Despite feeling unhappy with her decision, I still felt touched with her gift. With a smile, I hugged my mother from behind, stunning her with my sudden action.
“Thank you for the gift, Mom,” I appreciated, squeezing her tight.
She was silent. I noticed her hand slowly rising to touch me, but she shoved this idea aside and said, “Yeah, whatever. Just head into the kitchen and grab your meal. I have something to do.”
She pulled herself out of my embrace and went into her room.
That’s Mom alright. Hates to express her true feelings. Still, I love her.
Cadell came closer to me, sniffing my hand. I carefully patted him on the head and said, “At least I have a phone now. That means I get to use Trent’s gift as well.”
Together, we went into the kitchen to have our dinner.
.
The following morning as Mom had said, I left the house to run the errand given to me by her. She didn’t allow Cadell or Trent to follow me! She believes I’m going to take my sweet time playing on the street before returning home!
According to her observation, I spend so much time outside when I’m with them, but lesser time when alone.
That killed the little excitement left in me.
“I hate walking by myself. It’s boring,” I grumbled, stepping into the busy part of the pack.
Most of the people that laid their eyes my way, either gossiped or gawked at me weirdly. And their behavior was enough to tell me that they haven’t gotten over my case with Alpha Allen.
“Just ignore them, Eve. It will slide away before you even know it,” I encouraged myself, heading to the tailor store to get Mom’s dress.
Arriving at my destination, the tailor tried to get me engaged in a conversation about my experience at the Luna’s hunt and about Alpha Allen.
Instead of giving me the dress, she just wanted to know what was going on in my life!
“So, was the Alpha really flirting with you or is it the other way around?”
“How does it relate to the cloth?” I questioned, glaring at the lady.
“Oh, I’m just asking, dear. I mean… He’s the Alpha and you are…”
“I’m what?” My tone going hard, planting fear on the tailor’s face.
“Nothing. Just take the cloth,” She said, handing the little bag containing Mom’s dress, over to me.
I grabbed it from her hand and left without saying thank you. She doesn’t deserve one.
“Your Mom still owes me! Please tell her not to forget!” The tailor yelled as I distanced myself further away from her store.
“Why did Mom send me here if she knew the tailor doesn’t know how to keep her mouth to herself? Gosh! Why did my morning have to start like this? I hope it doesn’t get any worse.”
“If it isn’t the famous Omega herself,” I heard a familiar voice from behind, uttering my name.
When I turned around, I was stunned to meet Gamma Dave before me!
What’s he doing here?
Isn’t he supposed to be at the mansion preparing for tonight’s game?
