EVOLET
“So, Um… How’s Wolfy and your little Kitty cat?” Derby asked, grinning at me. But I didn’t return the gesture after her sudden drama with Trent.
Thanks to her, Trent had to sit at a different table feeling uncomfortable with Derby’s presence. He even suggested that I talk with her and get her to leave on time. That request left me upset, because I know Derby is a nice and friendly girl.
But to Trent, it was the opposite.
“You didn’t come along with your pets. Is it because of them?” she asked, signaling to Trent and Cadell, who sat three tables away from us.
I still didn’t answer her but frowned. That was enough to show Derby how I was feeling towards her.
With a sigh, Derby lowered her head and said, “Eve, I’m sorry. I don’t know what came over me.”
“Well I want to know. What happened back there? You just switched from the sweet Derby I know to a Crazy girl who has never seen a guy in her life before!”
“I think that’s where the problem is,” she muttered, drawing her finger on the table while trying to hide her face away.
“You’re kidding me, right? So, you’re saying you have never seen a guy in your life when you clearly walk pass a hundred of them in a week?” I asked her.
But Derby swayed her head at me and said, “No, I don’t mean that. What I’m trying to say is…” Her eyes went towards Trent’s direction again, with her lips spreading apart into a smile.
On seeing the glow on her face, I was surprised. Slowly, I began to understand what was actually going on with my friend!
“Derby?”
“Don’t take it the wrong way, Eve, but when I laid my eyes on your friend, I felt this strange attraction towards him. There was this tingling sensation that engulfed my body, like that of a hungry man who just laid his eyes on a table filled with food after having nothing for days! I don’t know if you get me but… I think I like your friend,” she confessed, still keeping her head down with her eyes on Trent.
“Forgive me for freaking out in that manner. I just couldn’t help myself around him. It’s actually the first time I’d react like that over a guy. Well, your boyfriend is handsome and all that, but Trent… Gosh! How did you guys meet?!” Her eyes sparkled with her smile growing larger by the minute, lifting her head off the table. “He’s so handsome,” she admired.
The sight of her smile got me deeply. Derby’s behavior is actually cute.
I should have noticed this on time. A girl who doesn’t find the Alpha or the men of the Royal home attractive, when other ladies dream of getting closer to them, suddenly finds herself falling for a guy she just met.
Her reaction when she saw Cadell was still better, but Trent? Waw! Derby has a crush on Trent. Not just a crush, she loves Trent!
Goodness! Love at first sight!
“I don’t know, maybe I’m just overreacting. I must have gotten the shivers like other girls. You know the first stage of madness when you see a good looking guy?”
“You mean like the way the others react when they see Alpha Allen?” I asked, smiling at her.
That’s when Derby busted into laughter, agreeing with me in an instant. “Exactly!”
I laughed along with Derby, feeling so happy to see her smiling with her eyes falling on Trent nonstop. It’s clear in her eyes, but she’s not sure about it.
“We can’t tell. I’m sure the goddess will answer everyone’s questions one day,” I said, having this strong hope in my heart for her.
“Yeah. Oh! Before I forget what I was going to tell you…” She drew closer and whispered, “Would you believe that the Queen has decided to host all remaining rounds within two weeks, starting tomorrow?”
“What?” I uttered in surprise, watching Derby nod her head at my reaction.
“You heard that right. She made that announcement this morning and told us that tomorrow’s game is going to be a sword battle like the last one. No time for training! She just wished us good luck and said we can head out to have fun before our fate is decided,” Derby shared, sipping her drink.
The info was indeed amusing to my ears. “All games in two weeks? What’s with the rush?”
“I bet it’s due to the rumor going around about Alpha Allen flirting with you, despite having so many damsels battling themselves to win his heart. That can be her only reason,” Derby pointed out, and I couldn’t help but agree with her on that.
“The heat must have been too much for the Royal home, that’s why Queen Chriselda made this order to rush the game. But come to think of it…” My mind went to Cadell’s words and his plan to take me away from Wolf Fall because of Allen and the Queen.
“Why do I have a bad feeling about… No, don’t think like that, Evolet. The Queen just wants to save her son’s image and get him out of the mess he made. Everything will be fine,” I believed from within, calming my mood.
Ending the chat with Derby, we both noticed Cadell and Trent leaving their table and approaching us.
When Derby saw this, she shook, kicking my leg by mistake.
“Ouch!”
“Sorry! I… I panicked,” she apologized, trying not to look at Trent, pulling her drink close. “Oh Gosh! With all the acrobat I performed, do you think he’ll still speak to me? I mean… He ran away before I could tell him about my hobbies! He must have concluded that I’m some freak or something,” She frowned, feeling troubled.
But as her friend, I took hold of her hand while rising from my seat, and said,”I don’t think Trent will do that. He’s a nice guy. Just try to be yourself and let him see the real you.”
“And he won’t run off?” she asked, staring at me while rising to her feet.
With assurance… “He won’t,” I said, poking Derby’s nose.
That made her happy. Derby gathered her courage and decided to do the right thing. “Let him see the real me. Okay, I’m ready,” She sighed, walking up to both Trent and Cadell while I remained close to the table, watching.
Cadell had to move away from Trent when he saw Derby coming. He just left Trent without any notice, making him glare at Cadell from behind. But when Derby came close, he composed himself, staring at her face.
“Hi,” Derby uttered calmly, standing before Trent.
Trent responded, trying to feel relaxed.
Cadell came to stand next to me, as we both watched Trent and Derby talking to themselves.
“I’m sorry for my behavior earlier. I didn’t mean to terrify you like that. The nut in my head fell off and…” She chuckled, planting a curve on Trent’s face unknowingly. “And I acted crazy. So… How about we start afresh?”
Controlling herself wonderfully well, Derby extended her hand out to Trent and reintroduced herself, “Hi, I’m Derby. And you are?”
“Trent,” he responded, taking hold of her hand, shaking it.
Watching this, I felt my heart glowing with happiness.
This could be the sign I was telling Trent about. What if the goddess sent Trent to me, so I’d lead him to the right person?
What if Derby is the answer to his call?
“I am so happy that she showed up,” Cadell smirked, watching them. “She is perfect for Kitty Cat.”
“Really? And why did you say that?” I asked, crossing my arms. Only for Cadell to chuckle, saying, “If I want to spend an alone time with you, all I need to do is get your friend and she’ll handle the rest.” He laughed, mocking Trent.
I dimmed my eyes at Cadell, but he kept joking about Trent’s funny reaction to Derby’s first approach, making fun of him. When he mentioned how Trent came to hide behind us at that corner, I ended up laughing.
Truly, that was hilarious.
“Maybe you could do that to me as well,” Cadell said, slowly taking hold of my hand.
I turned to face him and ended up sharing an eye lock with him.
“Ours won’t be in the open like these two love birds, but behind closed doors. What do you say, huh?” He winked, clasping my hand gently.
His Pervy words sent a tingling sensation all over my body, forcing me to look away, hiding my smile.
“You will never change, Cadell. Always naughty.”
“Do you want me to change? I can do that if you want me to? Just say it and it’s done,” I heard him whisper closely, causing my face to flush red.
It was had to hold it in. I was going to explode from this heat but got lucky when Derby called out to me, giving me the chance to flee from Cadell.
She was heading back to the mansion to get ready for tomorrow’s game. “I hope to see you guys at the arena. It will mean a lot to me.”
“Of course we’ll come. Right Trent?” I asked, looking at him.
He hummed, nodding his head. And that pleased Derby.
“Thanks, Eve,” She appreciated, embracing me.
She said her goodbye to us, well mostly at Trent, and left. Then we the trio, mother and pets, returned back to my place.
Later at home, I sat alone with Trent in my room and asked him about his take on Derby. “She’s not as Scary as you thought she was, right?” I chuckled, bumping his shoulder.
He shrugged and replied, “She’s normal. At least the proper intro showed it.”
“See, I told you she’s nice. All you need is some time to understand her. Don’t worry, in just a flash you’ll come to love her personality. She’s a great girl,” I said, placing my hand on his.
His eyes fell on my hand before asking a question I wasn’t expecting to hear from him. “I hope this statement of yours is safe?”
“Why did you ask that?” I inquired, lifting my brow.
That’s when he questioned me, asking, “Are you trying to get Derby and I in some kind of relationship?”
That question threw me off guard, leaving my mouth opened with my words stuck in my throat.
