CHAPTER 49

Book:Omega's Wolf Is A Rogue Published:2025-2-8

EVOLET
The following morning, I thought Mom would stop me from stepping out into the public after what happened with Allen. But she didn’t.
Instead, she advised me to make sure both Cadell and Trent where near by, so that Allen wouldn’t dare to get closer to me.
“If that crazy man makes any move, Wolfy can bite his legs off while Kitty plucks both eyes out. You won’t get into trouble for defending yourself. At least people would be around to witness it themselves.”
“Right, I’ll keep that in mind,” I had responded through my teeth, finding that advice kind of horrifying.
Still, I took her advice and left home with both Cadell and Trent to start my training for the day. But Cadell suddenly canceled the plan without any reason, surprising Trent and I.
“Is he okay? He has been acting weird all morning,” Trent asked as we both walked behind Cadell.
Nodding, I responded to Trent’s question, “Yeah, he is. I think he has something else to do today.” I lied, knowing well that Cadell’s behavior is because of last night’s argument.
He’s still moody over my refusal to his request. It makes me unhappy.
“Well, if that’s the case then it’s fine,” Trent said, believing what I said.
“Lest I forget, I got you something.”
“What’s that?” I asked, still glancing at Cadell while trying to listen to Trent. That’s when I felt him taking hold of my hand and placing something in my palm.
Turning to see what it was, I was surprised. It was a pretty diamond necklace Trent gifted me!
The sight of this expensive jewelry made me uncomfortable, that I had to place it back in Trent’s hands, refusing it. “Trent, we’ve been through this before. You can’t be buying me all these gifts when I’ve told you my answer already.”
“I know, Eve. But there’s no harm in giving you something from my heart. I just want you to know how special you are to me.”
“With this?” I pointed at the jewelry, tilting my head to the side.
Trent sighed and apologized, “I’m sorry, I can’t help it. I really want you to accept me but… I feel it’s challenging with Cadell around. He doesn’t need to lift a finger to get your attention.” He looked towards Cadell’s direction, watching him walk ahead without looking back to see if we were close or not.
Trent and I had come to a halt because of the gift, but Cadell didn’t even take note of it. Even if he did, he just didn’t show any concern. And that bothered me even more.
I felt my guilt attacking me again, suggesting I meet Cadell and speak to him. I can’t bear to see my Pervy wolf like this. It doesn’t fit him.
“I won’t say anything about your take on Cadell, but about you, Trent,” I said, as we resumed our walk. “I know you feel the goddess has sent you to Wolf Fall to make me your Luna, but what if your coming to Wolf Fall is for a different reason?”
“What do you mean?” he asked, looking perplexed.
“Think about. Maybe there’s a different reason she sent you here and it only has to do with me, because I might just be the bridge that will lead you to our destination. Just like the cubs we found. If you hadn’t listened to me that night, we wouldn’t have worked together and saved those children. Maybe you’re here for that same reason.”
“To find another missing children?” He asked.
I stared at Trent for a few seconds and slowly smiled at him. “Oh, Trent.” I patted his shoulder, swaying my head. “Don’t let Wolf Fall’s problem affect you too much. You will eventually find your reason. I know it.”
That didn’t feel right to Trent. He still feels the sign from the heaven is a mate bond call. But to show how much he cares about my thought, he was ready to listen.
“I guess you’re right. Maybe I’m here for a different reason.”
“Exactly. Who knows, maybe your true mate is here. Won’t that be exciting?” I grinned, poking Trent on the shoulder.
He smiled and gave a nod. “Maybe,” he responded, slowly keeping the necklace in his pocket.
He’s unhappy, I know. But it’s the right thing to do. I had to make him think this way than allowing him to put all his hopes on me. I don’t want him getting hurt when he realizes at the end that he wasted his time believing I’m the one. I want what’s best for Trent.
“At least that one is settled. Now I need to settle the most important case I created with my own hands,” I sighed, looking at Cadell from behind.
He hasn’t looked back throughout to see what is going on between Trent and I. Honestly, I’m beginning to miss his craziness. Everything just feels incomplete without him.
Soon, we arrived at a road side snack joint, where Cadell and Trent stood to get some snacks for us to eat. Trent was doing the ordering while Cadell just stood beside, looking lost.
I was behind them, staring at my Pervy Wolf. I wanted him to notice my gaze on him, but nothing. I was going to take hold of his hand from behind when suddenly… “EVOLET!” someone yelled my name from the side, causing my heart to skip in fright.
I immediately turned over with the guys and found Derby, running towards us with her arms wide opened.
“Derby?” I was surprised, yet pleased to see her.
She dived at me with a big hug, squeezing me tightly in her embrace. “Thank you again, Goddess. I was hoping to bump into you today. I miss you so much!” She said, squeezing harder.
I laughed at Derby’s action and said, “So happy to see you too. The Queen sure is spoiling you girls with all these free time out of the mansion. It must be fun.”
“Fun? I wish.” She rolled her eyes, crossing her arms. “It’s not fun when you are surrounded by annoying group of witches who feel they are…” She paused, staring over my left shoulder.
“They are what?” I asked Derby, but no response. She just froze like that, still gawking behind.
Her cheek slowly turned red, as she asked, lifting her hand to point at the person at my left, “Eve, who’s your friend?”
When she asked, I turned and realized she was referring to Trent. He was looking back at Derby, waving his hand at her. “Hi?” Trent uttered, greeting her.
And once he did that, Derby’s whole body system changed. She became dumb! “Hi handsome. I mean Waw! No, I mean Hi! Hi!” She freaked out, covering her mouth shamefully!
Her behavior left me feeling a bit embarrassed, forcing me to step in and save her from any more drama.
“Derby, this is my friend, Trent. Trent, Derby,” I introduced them both, watching Trent stretch out his hand to shake Derby’s.
“Pleased to meet you,” he said, waiting for her to place to take his hand for a shake. But Derby? She just stood there like a statue, grinning at Trent.
What has gotten into her all of a sudden?
“Are you okay?” Trent asked, concerned about her behavior.
That question forced Derby back to reality, answering Trent with her hand falling on his. “I’m fine. I’m absolutely… Oh my Gosh!” She exclaimed out when Trent clasped her hand in his.
“It’s strong! So manly!” She freaked out again, acting like a fish out of water!
Her weirdness didn’t surprise me alone, but Trent as well. He had to let go, suggesting we go and take our seat. “I’ll join you when it’s ready,” he said, slowly taking his eyes off my friend.
“Sure,” I agreed, grabbing Derby by the arm.
She still kept her gaze on Trent, smiling at him stupidly. I had to snap my finger at her face, pulling her out of dummy land.
“Huh?” She blinked at me, like one who just broke out from a spell.
“What was all that about?”
“All what?” She lifted her brow, puzzled at the question.
“That! You were acting… different,” I said, finding this strange.
Derby looked towards Trent’s direction and began blushing. I watched her tuck her hair carefully behind her ear, saying, “It’s nothing.”
“Nothing? Did you just call that acrobat nothing?” I lingered my eyes from her head to toe, just to make sure I’m talking to the right person.
This isn’t the Derby I know. She doesn’t act silly whenever she sees a guy. Okay, paraphrase that. She did act stupid when she saw Cadell, but not like this! Her reaction towards Trent is creepy!
“We’re going to talk about your madness once we have a seat. Cadell, let’s…” I turned to speak to him, but he was gone.
“Where is he?” I wondered, looking around to see if I’d spot. That’s when I caught sight of him, walking towards a bench at the other side of the road, taking his seat.
“Cadell,” I uttered softly, feeling my heart aching for him.
I really don’t like this mood. I need to stop this.
“So, he’s the one you were dreaming about that day, huh?” Derby said, poking my shoulder.
I didn’t understand what she meant, until she reminded me of the day we were meant to see Allen one on one. “I asked you who Cadell was, but you went silent. So, he’s your secret lover, huh Eve?” She winked twice, pulling my cheek.
I slapped her hand off and denied her claim. “He’s nothing like that. Cadell is just my friend.”
“If you lie to me I’ll punch your brains out. This is why you left the hunt. It’s because of him, isn’t it?” She frowned, placing both hands on her waist to show her anger. “Why didn’t you tell me that you had a boyfriend and had to leave because of him?”
“Derby, now isn’t the time to talk about…”
“I knew your fight with Fiona was off. You lost on purpose!” Derby gasped, pulling my nose.
“Ouch! Derby!” I tapped her hand off, nursing my nose.
“I am angry with you. But that anger can only subside when you go over there and sit with your sweetheart. Look at him! He’s lonely without you.” She pointed at Cadell, so I’d see for myself.
But the more I looked, the more I hated myself for putting him in this position.
“Go there and comfort him. I will watch over your friend. You don’t have to worry about him.”
“Watch about Trent? Who told you he needs a…” Before I could finish my statement, I turned and found Derby staring at Trent like a fool again.
I swayed my head and thought of snapping her back, but that’s when it hit me. Derby is just the person I need to keep Trent busy while I’m with Cadell!
She’s perfect even though her sudden behavior creeps Trent. But he’ll be fine.
“Okay, take good care of him.”
“You can count on that,” she said, drawing nearer to Trent.
Quickly, I rushed off to meet Cadell at the other side of the road. He was busy staring at something, paying no attention to his surrounding.
When I came closer, I sat beside him, asking, “What are you doing here all alone? Our seat is over there.” I pointed at the direction where I came from without taking my eyes off him.
Cadell managed to look at the spot but said nothing. All he did was smirk and face the direction he was facing at first.
There was a sudden sting that struck me in the heart, making me sad. I decided to compose myself and try something else, just to pull him out of this silence.
With a smile, I said to him, “Hey, guess who now has an admirer? Trent!” I giggled. “Derby is keeping him busy. I bet he’s going to freak out when he sees they’re alone,” I laughed, looking over to the snack joint to see Derby hovering a terrified Trent.
It was fun to watch, but not exciting as I wanted. It’s Cadell. He still didn’t do a thing but stared at both Trent and Derby coldly.
This was killing. He’s not making any insults at Trent or making fun of him like usual! What have I done?
“Cadell, why won’t you say anything? You’re mad at me, aren’t you?” I questioned, getting emotional.
He still didn’t answer any of my question, leaving me frustrated.
“At least say something! Don’t stay quiet! If you want to yell then yell!” I bumped him hard on the shoulder, but he did nothing.
That increased my annoyance, and I felt he was passing a message. Telling me that he doesn’t want to speak to me anymore.
“Fine, don’t say a word. I’m going to stay here until you get tired and speak. Then you’ll have no choice but to open up and…”
“Stop talking,” Cadell muttered with the side of his mouth, still looking elsewhere.
I felt a spark of delight when he spoke but the word he made… “Stop talking? Why?”
“Just act normal like you can’t hear a thing,” he spoke through his teeth, crossing his legs and taking hold of my hand surprisingly.
His instruction didn’t sit right but his grip warmed my heart instantly.
Does this mean everything is fine?
“Hey handsome,” I heard a voice right in front of us, which got me turning to see a pretty blond hair lady in a gorgeous fitted black dress and heels, smiling directly at Cadell.
My mouth almost dropped at this woman’s appearance, wondering what she wants from Cadell.
“I couldn’t help but notice how mysterious and cold you were looking from afar. You must be a bad boy with the eyes of a god, aren’t you?” She bit her lower lip seductively.
What the hell?! Is she flirting with Cadell?
Eww!
I turned to face Cadell to see his reaction to this weirdo’s words, but I was surprised by what I saw. Just as this blondie described, Cadell was being all mysterious and cold, giving the bad boy vibe!
He had his hand running down his chin, lifting his gaze at the blond, saying, “Cold… That’s my middle name. Even my own father can’t stand my aura. All he sees is a dark heart who wants nothing but bad stuffs.”
“Oh my. I totally agree with your Daddy, Handsome,” The blond drooled over Cadell’s words, fanning herself with her hand.
Do I call this a horror experience or what?
I’m witnessing Cadell at work. Like Work, Work! Pervy Work!!
He didn’t even consider the fact that I’m here watching all these. He’s just acting like a bad guy, filling this goody two shoes with words she likes to hear!
“Pervy, Stupid, Big head!” I grumbled under my voice, attempting to pinch Cadell, since he was holding my hand.
“Who’s this lady?” The Blond asked, looking at me. “Is she your girlfriend?” Her brow narrowed as she hovered her gaze all over me with jealousy.
Pride filled my heart when I saw the envy in her eyes. But it came crumbling when Cadell said, “Nah. I got no one to love, except my precious sister here.”
Sister?!
“She’s Deaf.”
DEAF?! Is he mad?!
“Oh my goodness! This is so sad.” The Blond gasped, sitting right next to me with her arms falling around my body. “I thought she could hear. Oh Goddess! You are such a brave man. You deserve all the love in this world,” she said, slowly reaching for Cadell’s face, caressing him lovingly.
Where I sat in shock, I felt like biting both Cadell and this Witch holding me. My eyes twitched in anger, watching Cadell enjoying the company of this woman.
“He called me his sister and lied that I’m deaf?! Oh, someone is going to get it from me!” I glared, passing a sign to Cadell. So he’d know the danger ahead of him.
But the dummy misinterpreted my stare and said to his new lover, “My sis is confused. Let me communicate with her.”
“You can do that? Oh Waw,” The Blond admired, watching Cadell make stupid signs with his hand, like I even understand one sign from the thousands of rubbish he was doing!
“You don’t have to be scared. I am here for you,” he said, using his hand to do nothing but more nonsense.
And as a reply, I responded as his deaf sister, machinelike,”OH BIG BROTHER, HOW I WISH I COULD UNDERSTAND WANT YOU ARE DOING.”
“Huh?”
“I think she drank her ear drop again. I better take her to the hospital now,” he lied, glaring at me.
I did the same, squeezing his hand. Still, the dumb blond believed his nonsense, going over to sit with Cadell.
I watched how she pecked him on the cheek, wishing him good luck, while my blood boiled at this scene unfolding before me.
He’s going to get it, I swear!
“Here’s my number. Call me if you need a shoulder to rest on.”
“If the goddess has brought a beauty like you my way, then why not?” He smirked, causing the blond to blush hard.
“Bye, handsome,” she waved, watching Cadell take me away from that spot.
And as soon as we where out of sight, Cadell dragged me into a tight corner of a building and tapped my head, saying, “The instruction was to act Deaf not stupid.”
“I’LL KILL YOU!” I roared, slamming my fists on Cadell.
“Who did you call deaf, huh?! You called me your deaf sister to impress that dumb woman!”
Swiftly, he grabbed my hands and said, “Quit your yammering, Stalker. Instead of learning some tips on how to advance from stalking to slaying, you are here overreacting.”
“Over… ARGH!”
I was mad! I felt like crushing him but he had my hands in the air, stopping me from striking him any further. I got tired so fast and lowered my head face front. I couldn’t fight any more.
“That’s much better, my sweet stalker. You’re lucky that my plan worked, otherwise I would have made you pay,” Cadell joked, laughing at me.
But I didn’t feel like laughing to this. I was upset.
“So, you were only pretending just to get that lady’s attention?” I asked, still keeping my head down.
“Yep. I was practicing at first and soon perfected it. That was the only way to make her think this handsome wolf is her type. She totally bought it, and now I have her number.”
Hearing him speak, my body shook with sadness, filling my eyes with tears. I sniffed to hold it back, only to attract Cadell’s attention.
He carefully lowered my hand and took me by the chin, trying to look at my face. But I refused him.
“Evolet.”
“Cadell don’t.” I drew back, turning my back at him to hide my tears. “Don’t look at me,” I said in my teary tone, carefully wiping my eyes.
“I was worried, thinking my action left a negative impact on you. I thought you were still mad at me, but you were only putting on an act to stupidly impress someone!” I groaned, sniffing in again.
“It’s not funny, Cadell. I don’t like it,” I mumbled, unable to stop my tears from flowing . It wouldn’t stop.
Suddenly, I felt Cadell’s arms around me. He carefully pulled me back until I was fully in his arms, buried in his embrace. His head fell beside mine, caressing my face with his, saying softly, “I’m sorry.”
His words touched me deeply. I felt weak.
“I should have said something before acting that way. Didn’t mean to make you cry.”
“I’m not crying. Something got into my eyes.”
“Of course something did. That’s me.”
Hearing him, my sadness switched into laughter. I chuckled, falling my head back just to meet his gaze.
Cadell smiled and carefully dried my eyes with his hands, filling my heart with so much peace and joy.
I couldn’t look away, but watched him care for me lovingly.
“I promise not to call you deaf next time, but dumb. That way those pretty angels will believe even when you act crazy,” he laughed at me.
My heart glowed, as I slowly placed my hand on his face, sliding my fingers to his lips. Feeling my touch, Cadell kissed my fingers passionately, planting something wonderful right in my heart.
I felt it, and it was beautiful.
The moment was soon interrupted by a familiar figure running pass the corner Cadell and I hid.
“Trent?” I called, wondering if I was mistaken or not. But my suspicion was confirmed when Trent reversed back and took a look into the tight space, staring at Cadell and I.
“You’re here?!” His eyes grew wide.
Quickly, I pulled myself out of Cadell’s hold and cleared my throat, trying to act normal. “Why are you running? Where’s Derby?”
“Your two question has only an answer, and that’s your friend.”
“What?” I uttered confusingly, watching Trent dive in to hide behind us.
“Your friend is a creep! I can’t believe you two left me alone with her. Was she released from an asylum by accident or what?” he asked, shielding himself.
Trent’s question sounded mean. I frowned at it and said, “That’s my friend you’re talking about, Trent.”
“I’m sorry, but she’s something. We started out fine, but the conversation grew weirder and weirder and weirder.”
“Derby? She doesn’t act like that,” I defended, amused by her sudden change.
“Yeah right. If she was normal, you two wouldn’t be hiding here,” He said, glaring at us.
That’s when Cadell boldly said, “Oh, we weren’t hiding. We were making out.”
“What?!” Trent and I exclaimed at Cadell.
He frowned at Trent and said, poking him on the chest, “If you hadn’t shown your face, by now Evolet and I would have been doing more than protecting you!”
“Cadell,” I called, covering my face.
“I thought you said you are an Alpha? How come you’re scared of a mere lady like that?!”
“I am not afraid of her.”
“Oh, I’d love to test that now,” Cadell said, rushing out to find Derby. When Trent saw this, he ran off at once.
I was left behind by both men, only to end up laughing at the whole scenario that just took place.
