EVOLET
We sat together under a tree which was situated away from the pack square. Cadell, who sat right next to me in the cold night, covered me up with his leather jacket, without uttering a word.
All I could do was gaze at him and let out a thank you, taking hold of the helm of the jacket to shield myself properly.
“Don’t mention it,” I heard him respond in a deep low voice, taking his attention out to nothing, while sitting comfortably against the tree.
I took my eyes off him, allowing silence to creep in between us. And that increased the guilt I’ve been harboring ever since he left.
I turned to the side to look at Cadell, who kept looking into the dark night. I felt like saying something, but I couldn’t.
Instead, I looked away then back at his direction again. I repeated this for three times until… “Do you want to say something?” Cadell asked, finally looking at me.
“Um…I…” I stammered, having no words.
“You’ve been gawking at me for long now. Could it be that you finally found me attractive and wish to ask for my hand in marriage?” he asked, winking at me with a smirk across his face, before letting out a laugh.
Seeing this, my heart went heavy.
I felt weak from within, feeling my eyes welling with tears while watching Cadell tease me.
The moment he noticed the tears in my gaze, his smiles faded. “Hey, why the long face? Come on, don’t tell me you’re scared of what I just said. I was only joking.”
He drew closer, taking my face in his palms, wiping the tears from my eyes. “Damn, I guess I won’t ask any lady if they want to propose to me. If it made you cry, who knows what it will do to the others.”
“No, I’m not…” I paused, bursting into laughter on seeing Cadell’s face. He was frowning and looked silly.
I tried to control it, but couldn’t hold it in.
Cadell ended up laughing along, swiping his thumbs against my eyes again, wiping off the droplets of tears from my lashes.
“Now that’s my beautiful, Evolet. You look much better,” he said, slowly taking his hands off my face.
“Thank you, Cadell,” I appreciated, feeling relaxed.
“And like earlier… Don’t mention it,” he smiled, about to lean against the tree.
Swiftly, I held his hand, stopping him on the spot. “Cadell,” I called.
“Yes?” he responded.
My mouth came open, but the words refused to flow. I didn’t know where to start from, but I know I want to say something to him.
“What is it, Evolet?” Cadell asked, drawing closer to me.
“Cadell, I’m… I’m sorry,” I finally voiced out, apologizing to him. “I shouldn’t have argued with you that night. You… you were only looking out for me, but I made you mad and you left. You didn’t return back and it made me… I’m really sorry,” I stammered a bit, gripping his hand close.
“I should have listened to you, but I didn’t. You were right about Allen and the Beta. They are indeed perverts in sheep clothing. They toil with innocent ladies for fun. I wouldn’t have known this, if I hadn’t seen it with my own eyes. In fact…” I sighed, recalling Allen and Fiona’s secret intimacy in that room.
I shut my eyes closed and said, “I wished I never fell in love with that man. He doesn’t deserve it. Not at all.”
“Hmm,” I heard Cadell hum, causing me to open my eyes and look at him.
He was looking at the full moon in the sky, saying, “First of all, I wasn’t mad at you. Maybe a bit. But I knew you were going to learn the truth somehow, and you did.”
He dropped his gaze down at me with a curve to the side of his lips and said, clenching my hand in his, “If I was really mad, then I wouldn’t have left you in that mansion.”
“Really? Then what would you have done? Place me on your shoulder like a sack of grain and dive out through the window?” I joked, chuckling at Cadell, who just smirked at me.
Then he said, caressing my hand, “Close.”
His response made my heart skip a bit, causing my laughter to fade off tardily.
“You won’t be taken on the shoulder but in my arms, and out through the window.”
“Oh, I… I see. What if I had refused and stood my ground? Would you still grab me into your arms or leave without bothering?” I asked, finding this topic interesting.
Then Cadell, planting a blush on my cheek with his killer smile, responded, “When I’m mad, you have no option but to come with me. And it’s a must.”
His words left me astonished. Is he serious or just pulling my legs?
I can’t tell if Cadell is being real about this. It makes me want to put him to the test and see if his words are genuine. But knowing the kind of man he is…
“Flirt. You’re just trying to make me feel better,” I scoffed, about to pull my hand out of Cadell’s hold, but he didn’t allow it.
Surprisingly, he pulled me closer to his body, making me gasp at his action.
Looking into his eyes, I noticed the seriousness that laid within Cadell’s gaze, as he tilted his head and said, “How about we put it to a test.”
My body shivered. He took the words right out of my mouth.
” You get on my nerves and I get wild, then we’ll see my reaction. What do you say?”
“I… I don’t…”
“Careful, Evolet. You can’t withstand my rage. I can be rough when unstable.” He winked, biting down on his lower lip.
Seeing and hearing this, my system shook, feeling the heat. Immediately, I drew my hand away from Cadell’s hold, facing the other way.
He began to laugh, not realizing that his words had left me hot, visulaizing all that he had said in my head.
“Do I really want to see that side of him?” I asked within, picturing a mad Cadell in my head.
The image got me smiling like a dummy, trying to ease the heat rising in my body.
“But, I wasn’t mad. I just left for an urgent date with a pretty lady,” Cadell said, killing the mood.
“What?” I uttered, turning over to meet Cadell leaning against the tree, talking about some date he went for.
“You went on a date?”
“Oh yeah. Her name was Pam. She has the most beautiful hips and ass. You need to see the way she sways it around. It’s big like this!” He opened his arms wide, describing the weight.
Hearing this, I felt… Angry!
Is that why he didn’t return? A date with a hippo?!”
“Gosh! She was amazing. But we never spent the night because I was afraid I’ll get crushed,” he said, shrugging.
“Oh, you two didn’t get to have some fun? How sad.” I swayed my head, like I give a damn about the sad news. In fact, I was pleased he couldn’t get down to business with his hippo lover.
“You had such a great opportunity but got scared of the load. It’s really sad.”
“Yeah, but I got another date the next night. This one had a nice shape and big boobs!” He shared, placing his hands against his chest to describe how big the lady’s breast were.
My eyes popped out in fury, watching Cadell narrate his night with another lady.
“Her chest was huge! It was… oh yes.”
Suddenly, he pointed at my chest and said, “Just like your melons, hers was as big as a pumpkin.”
“How dare you?!” I groaned, covering my body with his jacket, growling at Cadell.
“What? I was only describing my second date. But we couldn’t do anything special, because she had something important to do.”
“Good.”
“But I met Lola this night or was it last night. She had…”
“STOP!” I sparked out unexpectedly, surprising Cadell.
“I don’t want to hear about your dates and how big their body parts were. It makes me… It makes me…”
“Jealous?” He asked, leaning closely with a stupid smile on his face.
Dimming my eyes, I said, “No. It makes me want to punch you on the face!”
I launched my hand at Cadell, but he dodged it, laughing at me.
It felt funny when he started cackling, and I couldn’t help but laugh along.
But when I took my mind to those nights he was absent, I stopped.
“You should have said you were going to be busy than leaving me like that. I felt lonely without you,” I voiced, expressing my feeling to his absence.
That’s when Cadell’s brown eyes flashed at me. His grins faded into concern, as he drew closer and said, wrapping his left arm around my back, pulling me near, “I’m sorry for leaving you alone. I won’t repeat such.”
He comforted me, putting a smile on my face.
It felt so warm in his hold. I didn’t feel like pulling away, but I did when he said, “Unless a hot chick passes by, then yeah.”
“You pervert!” I punched his stomach.
“UH!” He groaned, falling to the ground.
“Better,”I smiled, satisfied with the result.
The mood vanished when I remembered Beta Dean and what Cadell did to him. “He’s in a bad state. What if the Guards know he went after me? They know I left the mansion. They must have seen him when he left as well to catch up with me,” I panicked from within, getting scared.
“He wouldn’t have been slammed to the ground like that, if he had stayed away. But he tried to force himself on me and Cadell…” I directed my eyes at Cadell and met him staring at me, throwing an air kiss my way.
A smile crept across my face when he did that, as I flashed to his shocking form, still mesmerized.
“What are you thinking about?” he asked.
Knowing I won’t get over this problem concerning the Beta, I shared my worry with Cadell, as well as my fear.
“What if the Beta wakes and tells them what happened? The guards must have seen when he left the mansion to chase me.”
“I doubt if he’d mention you when he wakes. Trust me, the fool won’t mention your name,” Cadell assured me, rising to his feet. “The only person he would accuse is me.”
“You?” I mentioned, staring at Cadell.
He hummed and went on talking. “He will tell them that he was attacked by the rogue. After all, he recognizes the pack’s enemy in his form,” Cadell smirked, extending his hand to me.
There was a sudden feeling of concern for Cadell in my heart. I keep forgetting at times that he’s wanted by the Royal family, since he’s not from Wolf Fall.
But in this short while, I’ve come to know the kind of person Cadell is. He doesn’t look like a rogue to me, but… a friend.
Is the Royal family just portraying him as a rogue because he’s an outsider or… is it because he’s different from a normal werewolf?
I took hold of Cadell’s hand, accepting his help off the ground.
I flashed to his amazing form and felt there was more that meets the eyes.
“Maybe the Royal family are only after him because of the kind of gift he possesses. They must be afraid of Cadell and chose to see him as an enemy,” I reasoned, dusting my clothes from dirt.
“The rule of the Queen. After her drama that day, I’ve lost all my admiration for her. Her way no longer feels right but wrong. If Luna Violet were alive, I bet every werewolf would be in unity with other creatures. She’s the true definition of a queen.”
I imaged the scenario in my head, wishing I was born during her reign.
Suddenly, I was snapped out of my dream by Cadell. He had waved his hand across my face, getting my attention.
“Are you okay?”
“Yeah, I am,” I nodded.
But he wasn’t convinced. “You aren’t. What’s on your mind? Would you like to tell me?”
“No, it’s nothing se…” I stopped, and thought for a moment. Then with a smile, I said, “There is something buzzing in my mind. I don’t know if you’re going to like it.”
“Is that so?” Cadell smirked, sliding both hands into his pocket. “Tell me, I’m all ears.”
“Well… okay.”
Crossing both arms to the back, I asked Cadell, “Your wolf form. How many transformations do you have?”
There was a shimmer in his eyes when I asked him that question. His smile grew wider, but he didn’t utter a word.
“I’m curious. I remember the first form at the forest that night, then your mere wolf form and now this. When I saw you appear at the square and attack Beta Dean, I was a bit scared. But somehow, I knew it was you.”
“You recognized me? Is it because of the darkness?” he asked, assuming it was his dark cloud that gave him out. But it wasn’t.
“I can’t say. Maybe, I guess,” I answered, looking at him.
He just gazed back, making me feel silly for asking him that question.
“You know what, forget it. I just got carried away,” I chuckled, trying to shake it off.
That’s when I heard from him, “Do you want to see me in my forms?”
My heart skittered, hoping he meant that question.
And just like that, Cadell took hold of my hand and began to pull me along, walking backwards with a smile on his face.
That was enough to tell his decision.
He wants to show me.
