EVOLET
“Are you okay?”
“Huh?” I snapped out of my thoughts, turning over to the left to look at Derby.
We were sitting in the living room of the mansion with other damsels, patiently waiting for Alpha Allen to show up and conduct the meeting.
Derby and I sat away from the others. They were busy chatting with Fiona, talking about Allen. But ever since I got there, I’ve been lost in thoughts, feeling… worried.
“I’ve been talking, but you didn’t say a thing.”
“Really? Oh, I’m so sorry, ” I apologized, letting out a smile. But Derby didn’t return it back.
She stared at me with concern in her gaze, asking while placing her hand on my shoulder, “Is everything okay?”
“Everything is fine,” I said, widening my grin. Still, she wasn’t buying it.
“Tell me the truth. Did that freak, bother you in anyway?” she dimmed her eyes towards Fiona’s direction, groaning.
When I heard that sound, I chuckled at Derby, patting her on the cheek. “No, she didn’t do anything this time. I’ve just been… Well, I’ve been feeling so nervous about this meeting with Alpha Allen. Who knows what he’s going to say to me when it gets to my turn.” I placed my hands on my cheek, puffing in and out, nervously.
Seeing how I was reacting, Derby groaned, leaning back in her seat. “Now I’m scared. What if he throws a question that I can’t answer? No!” She covered her face, panicking in her palms.
I laughed at Derby’s behavior, but switched back to the mood I was in before she called out to me.
Allen isn’t the cause of my worry, but Cadell.
He left me all alone and never came back last night. This morning I stood at the window, hoping he would appear before me, but no sign of him.
I had to accept that he was out there flirting with the women of Wolf Falls. But after the heated argument from last night… I can’t help but feel scared.
“I bet he’s flirting with a lady currently. It’s just like yesterday,” I believed, trying to calm my racing heart.
“He must be fixing another woman’s car without his shirt again,” I giggled, recalling yesterday’s drama and how he used that opportunity to tease me.
His grip, his silliness… He’s such a clown.
Just thinking of all his craziness and our partnership in such a short time, brought a big smile to my face.
“I’ve never seen a naughty man like Cadell before. He’s so stubborn and…” My mind flashed to his rage, causing my heart to beat in fright.
He really scared me with his behavior, and I can still feel his grip on me when I told him about my first kiss with Allen.
“You should have listened to your mother,” his words rang in my head, leaving me in thoughts once again.
“I just wanted him to understand me, but he doesn’t want to. He thinks I don’t know what I’m doing but need guidance. But I do know my left to right.”
I crossed my arms, leaning close to Derby, who kept complaining about the meet up with the Alpha.
“I’m sure when I meet Allen and he expresses his love to me, Cadell would believe that the Alpha isn’t a bad person,” I muttered softly, directing my eyes to the door.
“Cadell? Who’s that?” Derby asked.
She had heard his name from my mouth, and now I didn’t know what excuse to come up with.
Just when I was going to say something, Beta Dean came into the room to share the good news with us.
“The Alpha awaits your arrival, ladies,” he said with a charming smile on his face.
The girls jubilated, rising to their feet.
“One at a time, please,” he said, leading the way, as we all followed the Beta out of the living room to see the Alpha.
As we walked in a long queue, with the others giggling on the line, I found myself breathing heavily, wondering what Allen would do when he sees me.
Not just that, we’re going to be alone behind closed doors! Gosh! I’m sweating just thinking about it.
In no time, we arrived outside Allen’s study room. Beta Dean made sure we didn’t ruin the queue by telling us to maintain our line.
Then one at a time, each maiden went into the room to speak to Alpha Allen, and then out.
Some took just five minutes with him, while some didn’t even get to two. I was watching all these but gasped in shock when it came to Fiona’s turn.
She went in and came out after ten minutes, looking so happy. Her timing became her pride, leaving the others amused and curious to know what she and Alpha Allen were discussing.
I was also curious, feeling jealous of Fiona’s record.
She cat walked right pass me, smirking with pride, with her shoulders lifting high.
This made me annoyed from within. I held myself and decided to let it go. “I bet I’d do better that her,” I told myself, drawing closer to the door.
When it came to my turn, my whole body shivered.
“You can go in, Evolet,” Beta Dean said, curving his lips.
His heartwarming call took away my worry. It felt like he was giving me a sign that all would be well, and… and I believed it with all of my heart.
Summoning my courage, I went into the study room and met Alpha Allen sitting behind his desk, going through his phone. He didn’t even bother to look up and see who was in the room with him. He just gestured to the seat in front and said, “Sit and tell me about yourself.”
“Um… Okay,” I responded, drawing closer.
Pulling the chair back, I accidentally dragged the leg on the ground, creating an irritating sound to the ears.
“Don’t drag it!” Allen raised his voice, lifting his gaze at me. When his eyes fell on me, he paused. Almost as if he had just seen an angel, which is me.
“I’m sorry,” I apologized, smiling at Allen.
He kept staring for a little while, before saying, “The wolfless Omega. I keep forgetting that you are among the damsels.”
“Yeah, I’m among the maidens. And… I’m not really wolfless, Alpha. I do have a wolf,” I said, feeling uncomfortable with that title.
“Is that so?” he asked, leaning his back against his seat.
Seeing how he grinned, curious to hear from me, I felt pleased with this start, sitting down to speak with him.
“Yeah, it’s true. I do have a wolf.”
“But during the battle at the arena, you had help from your pet wolf.”
“Most of it was me. I was using my inner wolf strength to fight. It just kept coming and going somehow.”
“Fascinating. Is that the first time it’s happening?” he asked, sitting up with his hands falling on the table, listening attentively.
The sight of his eagerness bloomed my heart. I felt my cheek burning red while trying to maintain an eye contact with Allen.
I know we’ve bumped into each other before, and even kissed, but talking to him like this feels so different and amazing.
Allen and I kept on talking about my inability to summon my wolf. I wanted us to talk about something else, and as if he read my mind, he changed the topic at once.
“So, Evolet. That’s a really nice name,” he commented, rising to his feet.
“Thank you,” I appreciated, turning red.
Allen walked right behind me and asked, “How desperate are you to become my Luna?”
Surprisingly, I felt his hands on my shoulder, caressing me!
My whole body shivered at his touch, feeling his fingers running down to my neck, slowly.
To breath became a problem. I had my eyes rolling, sensing his heat closer to my body from behind.
“There are a lot of competitions who want to take that position. Do you think you stand a chance against them? Tell me, Evolet.” He lowered my head back slowly, so I could stare into his tempting gaze.
His strong hand slide around my neck and to my lips, caressing it lovingly.
“Do you think you have a chance to be my Queen?”
Right under his spell, I nodded slowly, saying, “Yes… Allen.”
His eyes glowed at the way I uttered his name from my lips.
“Yes, I know I can be your Queen. No matter the obstacles in our way, I will fight hard to be yours,” I confessed, embracing my deep feelings for Allen.
“I want to be your Luna more than anything. I… I do.”
“Eve,” he called my name softly, arcing his lip.
A soft moan escaped mine, as I felt Allen’s hand slid down from my neck and straight for my right hand, clenching it.
Slowly, the gap between us came closing. I could feel my heart racing, knowing what was about to happen.
“At last! After all these while, he’s going to express his love to me.” I gazed with joy, slowly shutting my eyes to welcome his kiss.
“You’re beautiful, Evolet. Even your name alone is enough to spin my world around,” I heard from Allen. It made my heart glow.
“If I had a diamond ring right now…”
When I heard that statement, my body vibrated, recalling that night he professed those beautiful words to me.
Filled with joy… “It would be around your finger,” I completed, awaiting his kiss.
But, I didn’t feel a thing.
Noticing that he hadn’t kissed me, I opened my eyes and noticed Allen staring at me strangely.
His smile had faded, replaced with confusion.
That’s when he asked, stepping back, “Where did you hear that from?”
This came unexpectedly to me. I got to my feet to answer Allen, reminding him of the party we first met. “When I tried to leave your room, you stopped me and confessed your love to me. Then… then we kissed.”
“What?” his eyes popped out in shock, startling me.
Why is he surprised?
“Did…Did you forget that night? Is that why you didn’t recognize me on time?” I asked, giving out a smile, hoping Allen would recollect that day.
But all of a sudden… “Leave,” Allen ordered, glaring at me!
His sweet nature vanished in a blink of an eye! The man standing before me became… angry!
“Allen, what happened?”
“I said leave!” He raised, stunning me. My body had trembled at his tone, watching Allen point at the door, saying, “You are wasting other damsels time. You can go now.”
This was shocking. I didn’t know how to react but do as he said.
I walked up to the door, looking back at Allen. He didn’t even look at me, but returned to his seat to resume with whatever he was doing.
His sudden attitude still left me astonished. I did as he said and left the room, watching the next lady step in with joy.
Derby, who was awaiting her turn, waved at me from the line.
I had to fake a smile to hide my reaction, hearing the other maidens mention the minutes I had used in the Alpha’s study room.
“Fifteen minutes? That’s higher than Fiona’s,” they gossiped, looking at me.
The record didn’t matter to me. I was more bothered about Allen’s attitude in there.
What was all that?
