EVOLET
Finally, after praying to the heavens to bring us together again, the Goddess has done it. She has brought my Allen before my eyes.
I remained still, gazing into the eyes of my Alpha, unable to voice out my deepest feelings for him.
He stared into my eyes beautifully, as he moved his lips slowly, trying to make some words.
“But what do I want to say to him? Should I wait for him to speak up first? What if he wants me to do the talking?!” I panicked within, lowering my gaze with a blush spreading across my cheek.
“Maybe I should talk to him first. Yes, that would be best,” I decided, slowly tucking my hair to the back of my ear.
Clearing my throat a bit, I opened my lips to speak when Allen’s voice came in, stopping me in my track. “What are you doing out here?”
“Oh, me?” I asked, feeling embarrassed while trying to look at his handsome face. But it was hard for me to maintain an eye contact with Allen.
I could only blush, dropping my gaze down again. But when I directed my eyes off Allen, a shadow from behind the Alpha, caught my attention.
I looked and noticed a woman walking away with a veil all over head. Couldn’t tell who that was.
“It must have been a maid. Maybe he was sending her on an errand when I interrupted. Oh dear! I hope he’s not mad?”
“I asked you a question.”
“Huh?” I uttered, lifting my head to look at Allen fully. He gazed at me with seriousness, crossing his arms.
“What are you doing out here? Aren’t you supposed to be… Wait, you’re not a maid,” he said, looking surprised.
“Maid? No, I’m not,” I chortled, swaying my head. “I’m among the Damsels,” I corrected, exposing my face properly, so he’d see who he was talking to.
“I see. No wonder you’re dressed differently,” he pointed at my gown.
“Yeah, this is no maid’s attire. Just my dress. Mine alone,” I joked, giggly. But I was the only one laughing to my own jokes, because Allen didn’t move his lips. Not even a curve.
I was beginning to feel unhappy with the way things were going. “Why isn’t he saying anything about us? He just sounds like one who has never seen me in his life before,” I observed his behavior.
Feeling a bit embarrassed, I decided to try something else. Lifting my gaze to the moon, I said, “It’s beautiful tonight. The moon looks so much like a diamond. Let’s say a big beautiful diamond that can fit perfectly around one’s finger.”
I dangled my finger at his face with a smile, but still, Allen wasn’t moved. He just dimmed his eyes at me, like I was some kind of creep!
This was beginning to feel humiliating.
“Why isn’t he saying anything? I thought he’d be happy to see me again, but… He’s not making any attempt. Could it be that Allen doesn’t recognize me?” I questioned within, feeling my heart aching.
The Queen’s announcement, the Beta’s help… Was all that in my head?
“You shouldn’t be out here by this time,” Allen said, drawing away from me, without glancing at my face.
“Head back to your room, now,” he ordered.
Where I stood, staring at Allen from behind, I felt my heart weaken at his words. It was now clear to me. Allen doesn’t remember me.
Then what was all that act from the Beta? Didn’t he send his Beta to help me?
Just then… “How did this wolf get into the mansion?!” A voice sparked from the main entrance, attracting mine and Allen’s attention.
Hearing the word ‘Wolf’ I believed it was Cadell getting into trouble with someone. Worst, maybe he tried to sneak out and was spotted.
“Wolf?” I heard Allen utter, walking fast to see for himself.
Worried, I ran pass him and arrived at the door, just in time to see Gamma Dave pointing his sword at an aggressive Cadell!
Shocked, I dived in and stood in Cadell’s front, apologizing to the Gamma, “He’s mine. I’m so sorry for the trouble.”
“What? The Queen allowed you to bring in a mere dog into the royal ground?” He lifted his brow in disgust, glancing at Cadell, then at me.
From his face expression, it was clear that Gamma Dave wasn’t a fan of pets.
I’ve heard rumors about the Gamma being a hard nut to crack. He’s known for his aggressive nature towards people he finds unworthy to be in his presence.
When the Queen mentioned that he would assist both the Beta and the sorceress in training us for the next round, I felt worried about his approach.
Well, I’m seeing it now.
“Is this some kind of joke?” he groaned at me, pointing his sword at Cadell again. “Creatures of the wild are meant to remain in the forest where they belong. I will not allow this beast to stay here in the mansion!” he sparked, causing my body to shiver.
I thought he was going to push me aside and drag Cadell away, but that’s when someone’s intervention saved the day.
“Leave the wolf, Dave,” Allen said, standing next his Gamma. “The wolf isn’t just her pet, but her aid in the Luna hunt.”
“What do you mean, Alpha?”
Allen looked at me then at Cadell, answering his Gamma. “She’s a wolfless Omega who uses her pet as her support.”
His response struck me in the chest like an arrow.
Wolfless? Gosh, I feel… Ouch.
He went on to narrate how it all happened to his Gamma, who still wasn’t pleased with the way things went in his absence.
“I see. If I wasn’t busy during that battle, I bet your pet wouldn’t have stepped into this mansion. Count yourself lucky.”
I gulped, looking at Cadell who stayed behind me. He didn’t look terrified by the Gamma’s threat, but hungry for a fight.
He better cooperate himself, if he doesn’t want to get caught.
“I knew I had seen your face somewhere before, but I couldn’t recollect well, until now,” Allen said, gaining my attention.
His words had bloomed my aching heart, planting joy within.
He said he had seen my face before. That means he remembers!
Allen then smiled, saying to me, “I’m sure if you push yourself harder, you will unleash your true form in no time. Just don’t give up.”
“I… I won’t,” I nodded, letting out a grin.
“Good. Now head to your room,” he said, sliding both hands into his pocket.
Feeling silly yet happy, I bowed at both Alpha and Gamma, before leaving with Cadell.
With so much happiness engulfing my heart, I joyfully ran to my room, recalling Allen’s advice.
To the Gamma, it sounds like a mere motivational speech, but to me… It was a hidden message.
“Cadell, I’m so happy! Did you hear the Alpha? Oh Goddess,” I rejoiced, dancing around in my room.
“Allen is secretly helping me. He wants me to improve myself by summoning my wolf and prove to his mother that I am worthy of being his Luna. Oh, this is so amazing!” I twirled around, cheering.
Cadell, who was now in his human form, stared at me from the corner, looking angry.
His grumpy face interrupted my moment, as I placed a stop to my feet and said, “Stop fuming like a child. You’re lucky I showed up to stop you from attacking the Gamma. Who knows what would have happened.”
“What where you doing out there, all by yourself?” he questioned deeply, amusing me with his tone.
I wanted to just shove his question aside, not until Cadell repeated it again, “What where you doing out there, alone?!”
“Cadell, what’s wrong with you?” I was beginning to find this behavior of his, disturbing.
“I saw the others heading to their rooms, but you were no where around.”
“Calm down. You are beginning to sound like my own parent. I only went out for a stroll,” I said, about turning my back at him.
“A Stroll?! Really?!” Cadell roared, grabbing my arm roughly and forcing me to face him!
I was shocked by his attitude. What has gotten into him?!
“Who knows what would have happened to you, If i hadn’t shown up?”
“Stop this nonsense, Cadell! And Let me go!” I groaned, trying to pull my arm off. But his grip was too tight on me.
He pulled me closely and said, ” You are a lady, Evolet. Walking alone at this hour isn’t safe! You are surrounded by hungry beasts that call themselves men, who are out to feast on naive subjects like you!”
I stared into his silver raging eyes, frightened by his furious voice.
He mentioned Beta Dean and his help, calling it fake. “Who knows if that animal was waiting for you at a corner, ready to run his dirty hands on your body?”
“I’ve told you that the Beta is nothing like that!”
“And Alpha Allen? What makes you think he’s as pure as the heaven, huh?” he questioned, shaking me a bit.
“You where alone with him! If the Gamma and I hadn’t gotten into a brief battle, he would have taken advantage of you!”
“Allen is not like that!” I roared, pushing Cadell back, breaking free from his grip.
I drew back, panting out and defending Allen. “You don’t know him like I do! He’s the sweetest soul I have ever come across.”
“I’ve told you not to let sweet talks deceive you, Evolet. All what you’re seeing is nothing but fake!”
My heart skipped at Cadell’s cruel description of Allen. Does he think my Allen is a subvert?!
Angry, I said to him, “My Allen is nothing like you. He’s pure at heart. He’s wonderful. He’s not like a pervy rogue like yourself. You are nothing like him!”
“And I’m glad I’m nothing like him. I am a hundred percent real. At least I don’t hide my true colors,” he fired back, glaring at me.
I felt so annoyed and mad at Cadell. He didn’t seem to care about my feelings but about his hatred for the royal family. He’s… hurting me.
KNOCK! KNOCK!! “My lady, is everything okay?” a maid asked from outside, knocking on my door. She must have heard my yelling and came to check.
“Goodness! I’m coming!” I said out loud, wiping my face while walking towards the door to answer the maid. But the mood I was in was hard to wipe off.
When I answered the maid’s call, I had to maintain a happy face, so she won’t suspect a thing.
“Is everything okay? I heard you shouting.”
“Everything is fine. I was just yelling at my wolf to get off the bed,” I lied, letting out a chuckle.
The maid smiled, showing her understanding.
She wished me a goodnight rest and left, while I carefully shut the door, feeling my whole body shivering.
“Why are we arguing? I don’t want any negativity to grow between us. All I need to do is make Cadell see reasons from my end, and then he’ll understand how much Allen and I mean to each other,” I believed, breathing in my spot, getting ready to resume with our argument.
“Look Cadell, I can understand your rage towards the Royal family, but look at things from my path.”
I turned around and gasped out in fear. Cadell was standing close to me, leaving only a little space between us.
He stared at me emotionlessly and said, “Hatred or not, Evolet. I am doing this not for myself only, but for you.”
My heart skittered at his words. ” For me?” I uttered, looking into his eyes.
Slowly, I could see traces of care for me in Cadell’s gaze. He slowly cupped my face in his hands, saying, “You may think I’m being mean or harsh towards you, but it’s for your own good. You are still clueless of the things that happens around you in this world.”
“But… that doesn’t mean Allen is bad.”
“You aren’t getting it!” he groaned, stepping away from me.
Not wanting this argument to lead to a bad end between us, I voiced out at once, hoping Cadell would understand. “Allen is my first love!”
Suddenly, Cadell paused, turning around to face me in surprise.
“What?” he uttered, staring.
“Yes. Allen and I… we once shared our first kiss which was the most beautiful thing that has ever happened to me. And… and I know that this hunt was to find me. Allen is looking for a way to show the world that we belong together, that’s why…” I paused, noticing Cadell’s terrifying gaze.
I thought when I shared this details with him, he would understand. But… I can’t help but feel worried just by looking into his eyes.
“A kiss? Allen has kissed you before?” He asked, drawing closer.
“I… We…” I stammered, stepping back, until my back met with the door.
I gulped down and tried to reduce the tension rising between us, by asking Cadell for his help in unleashing my wolf. “If you can help train me, maybe my wolf would…”
Before I could complete my statement, Cadell came at me with speed, pinning me against the door from the shoulder!
My heart flew to my throat, as I gazed fearfully at Cadell’s face, unable to scream. His eyes glowed brightly and his teeth had grown large, growling at me.
The Pervy Cadell I knew was gone. The man standing before me was filled with rage.
He almost unleashed his wolf on me, but… but stopped.
I watched as Cadell’s wolf retreated, revealing his human form again.
He said nothing to me, but released me from his grip, walking up to the window.
“Ca… Cadell,” I trembled.
“You should have listened to your mother when she told you not to join the hunt.”
“What?” I was surprised to hear him bring my mother into this.
And just like that, Cadell left, leaving me all alone, feeling lost.
I couldn’t make up his sudden outburst at me. It felt so scary.
“Why did he act like that?” I crossed my arms, still feeling the shivers.
