EVOLET
“Evicted? But what did we do?” I voiced out, stepping forward.
The sudden notice wasn’t adding up in my head. Even though I was scared, my senses were still intact.
“Excuse me? Are you questioning the Queen’s order?” Fiona questioned, stepping forward so she’d be seen by all.
“You girls have been eliminated from the hunt, and you dare to question the Luna’s decision? How dare you?!” she raised her voice loudly.
“Don’t misinterpret my words, Fiona. I only wish to know our offense. We haven’t done anything wrong, so why are we being kicked out of the hunt? At least we deserve an explanation. Isn’t that fair?” I asked, standing my ground.
But that only annoyed Queen Chriselda and the Sorceress. I could see it in their gaze.
“I think they deserve an explanation, my Queen. Please, what have they done?” Derby managed to voice out from behind, trying to help me.
Her voice was heard by the Queen, who directed her gaze behind to look at Derby, sending fear into her heart.
Derby lowered her head down, going silent immediately.
That’s when Queen Chriselda looked at my direction, locking eyes with me.
There was a sudden aura I felt within when our eyes met. I don’t know how to explain it, but deep inside my heart… I could tell this aura wasn’t in agreement with the Queen’s action.
“So, you think the Queen of Wolf Fall is being unjust with you and your friends?” she asked me, tilting her head.
I lowered my head down in respect and answered, “I never said that, my Queen. We only want to know why you’ve decided to evict us. Surely we must have done something to spark your judgement.”
“Don’t use the word ‘We’, when you’re the only one asking. The others have already accepted their fate, but you…”
I lifted my head to see her face. She still had her gaze fixed at me. And trust me, it didn’t look friendly.
“You are being stubborn and desperate. Now I see why the goddess decided to ignore you when she was blessing her children with their wolves. You are nothing but a useless omega,” she cursed, getting the other damsels standing behind her, laughing out loudly.
Her words almost got to me. It reminded me of my mother’s cruel words and refusal in this hunt.
I almost gave in to her abuse, but swallowed it back, saying to the Queen, “I have heard you, my Queen. But still, may we… No, May I know my offense?” I asked, standing strong.
When Queen Chriselda saw my courage, her smile faded in an instant. She glared at me with detest in her eyes.
“Are you that dumb, Evolet? The Queen says…”
“Quiet,” Queen Chriselda shunned Fiona, leaving her feeling a bit embarrassed. Her brow rose at my audacity and refusal to stay shut. It was clear that she was furious.
I watched how her lips curled up to a smirk, saying to me, “You won’t give up, huh? Alright then, I’ll tell you.”
Taking a step forward, she said, “You were evicted due to your lateness.”
“But we aren’t late. We just have twenty more minutes to go. How is that late?” I threw back, getting on the Queen’s nerves.
“For a useless Omega, you do have a sharp tongue. So, you are now going against me?”
“My Queen, please give me the go ahead to punish them all. They lack respect,” Sorceress Thelma requested, shimmering her yellow eyes intensely.
Her words scared the others, who fell on their knees begging for mercy, but me… I did no such thing.
The more I challenged both Queen Chriselda, the more the strange aura I was feeling, increased. It felt like something was… something was alive within me. Something that wasn’t in support with the Queen’s rule.
And I have to admit that I agree with this sensation. I don’t like what the Queen is doing. She’s being unjust.
For years, I’ve always seen her as a role model to look up to, but now I change my mind. She’s nothing like that.
She told us that there will be no round or challenge today, but out of the blue, she pulls this stunt on us? This isn’t fair.
“You stupid Brat! Look at what you’ve done!”
“Huh?” I uttered, looking at the girls with me. They were glaring in rage, pointing accusing fingers at me.
“No one asked for your nonsense opinion!”
“You have annoyed our Queen with your stupidity!”
“If there’s anyone that needs to be punished here, then it’s you!” They attacked, pushing me towards the red shield.
I staggered close to the force field, watching how this girls argued with me for challenging the Queen’s order.
When they tried to hit me, as a way to show their loyalty to the Luna… “AHH!” The girls screamed, drawing away from me with speed.
I didn’t know why, until I looked down in front and saw Cadell, in his wolf form, protecting me. He growled and barked at them, terrifying the girls from drawing any closer.
“It’s that wild dog!” They screamed, shaking fearfully.
I felt much better with Cadell’s arrival. He came just in time to save me from being beaten to a pulp.
But that wasn’t all.
“Evolet, what are you doing there?” A familiar voice called from the other side of the red shield. I turned over and saw Beta Dean stepping into the gathering, looking confused.
“Beta?” I uttered, wondering why he mentioned my name.
That’s when he looked at the Queen and asked, “Why are they out there, my Queen?”
“These girls have been evicted from the hunt, Beta, including this one,” she said, darting her eyes at me. “They returned late from their homes, and I have decided to send them back to their families.”
“Late? But my Queen, Evolet isn’t late?”
“What?!” I was stunned by what the Beta just said to the Queen.
“She’s the first to return back to the mansion. I was the one who sent her on an errand when the guards didn’t respond on time. She’s not late,” he claimed, defending me!
But why?
I know well that he’s telling a lie, but why is he doing this?
What the Beta said left both the Queen and the Sorceress silent. They didn’t know how to respond to this sudden info from the Beta.
“But… That can’t be… I thought I was the first?” Fiona stammered, unable to accept this report.
Since the Beta had made a vouch for my sake, the Queen had no choice. She rolled her eyes at me and said to Sorceress Thelma, “Let her in.”
Joy, I felt so happy to hear that from her lips.
The Sorceress made an opening for me and my wolf to pass through the shield. I gladly did with a bold face, glancing at the Queen, who didn’t look happy at all.
I took my eyes off her then at Beta Dean, who maintained a serious expression, looking at the other five damsels outside the mansion’s gate.
I really want to know why he helped me. Could it be that he was sent by Allen to save me?!
It must be!
Allen sent his Beta to save me!
