Sirena panicked, vigorously hitting the object blocking her path.
“Mrs. Walters, this can’t happen! Ulric is mine! He belongs to me!”
“If you hadn’t done this, your Uncle Caesar would still have high hopes for you! I’ve praised you to him many times, but you disappointed us! You wanted to die with Ulric? Have you ever thought about me? He’s my only son!” Audrey’s hands trembled at the thought of her bloodied son lying on a stretcher.
Sirena quickly assured her, “There won’t be a next time! I’ll love him properly and help him with the company’s affairs. I won’t hurt him again, Auntie… I truly regret it!”
“Regret doesn’t matter now. You’ll stay here for the time being. If I can convince your Uncle Caesar later, I’ll have you released. If not… you’ll have to pay with your life.”
Audrey felt utterly powerless.
After saying this, she turned to leave, feeling deeply disappointed in Sirena.
How many times had she disregarded her husband and son’s objections to help Sirena? She had often emphasized to her not to rush things, that the Walters family only recognized her as a daughter-in-law. What was there to fear?
Seeing that she was truly abandoning her, Sirena suddenly shouted out,
“Aunt Audrey! Do you remember what happened with Rosalind’s mother?”
Audrey froze momentarily, turning to look at her. “What? Are you trying to threaten me?”
“No.” Sirena peered at her through the bars. “I want to tell you that when we destroyed the evidence and the people involved back then, we thought we were in the clear, right? But later, because I was worried someone might find other evidence, I specifically went back to check the destroyed surveillance footage, and I found one was missing!”
“What?”
“The surveillance video has indeed been destroyed and overwritten, but the flash drive is gone.”
Audrey immediately felt a surge of panic.
“Do you know who took it?”
Sirena shook her head. “I don’t know! That’s why I’m telling you-I’m afraid Rosalind might have gotten it.”
“Why didn’t you say this earlier?”
Audrey was genuinely anxious!
This meant that handling the situation hadn’t been thorough. There were many possibilities. Perhaps it was simply misplaced, and the footage had been wiped. But-
Due to Sirena’s incident, her relationship with her husband was already strained. If the matter regarding Rosalind’s mother came to light, the consequences could be dire!
“I didn’t dare to tell you. I was afraid you’d scold me for being incompetent!” Sirena sobbed, her voice hoarse. “Aunt Audrey… I really consider you my mother. Even if I don’t marry Ulric, I still respect you greatly! I made a mistake, and I deserve punishment. You can hit me, scold me, or even let me die, but you have to forgive me… I was truly at my wits’ end! I saw him recklessly rushing to save Rosalind, and I went crazy!”
“Alas… you!” Audrey wanted to continue scolding her but didn’t know how to start. “I can understand your feelings, but at my age, with only Ulric as my son, and your Uncle Caesar’s lineage depending on him, how could you not think about that?”
“I was really crazy at that time! I lost all sense!”
“Alright, I’ll look into the missing flash drive, and as for you… stop causing trouble. Just stay here quietly and don’t anger your Uncle Caesar.”
