“I believe Ulric and Miss Ruell are truly in love.”
Rebecca knew that true love was hard to come by, especially the kind that involved sacrificing oneself for the other. It was a rarity in this world.
Even she couldn’t help but be moved by it.
“It’s easy to say one is in love, but there are so many changes to contend with!” Caesar wanted to say more, but he looked at Rebecca and ultimately remained silent. His stubborn attitude persisted. “In any case, I won’t agree.”
…
Rosalind returned from Tilda’s room to find Ulric already propped up on the bed!
She was surprised for a moment, her face filled with happiness. “Did Dr. Stewart remove your monitoring device early? Does that mean your recovery is going well?”
Ulric’s handsome face showed a hint of unease. He wanted to nod, but in the end, he didn’t. Instead, he changed the subject.
“I think I can walk now.”
“That’s not allowed! Dr. Stewart didn’t say you could, so you can’t.” Rosalind walked to Ulric’s bedside and wanted to help him wipe his body with a towel, only to realize something was off. “Your bandages… it seems like they’ve been changed. Did you start bleeding again?”
“Dr. Stewart changed them for me. Maybe they needed to be changed when they removed the device.”
He spoke vaguely, and fortunately, Rosalind only focused on the fact that Ulric’s condition had improved and didn’t pay much attention to these details.
“Ulric, take good care of yourself, and don’t make me feel guilty anymore.”
Rosalind said this sentence while looking into Ulric’s eyes.
She couldn’t bear any more love from Ulric. It weighed heavily on her day and night.
“I don’t want you to feel guilty.” Ulric’s gaze was even more serious and earnest than hers. “You know what I want.”
“Rosalind, you agreed to my father’s conditions, right?”
Rosalind looked at him in astonishment. “He told you?”
“So you did agree. I knew… I knew they would bully you!”
Even in his last moments of unconsciousness, Ulric wondered how Rosalind would be affected if he died or remained unconscious for a long time.
The Walters family would definitely make things difficult for her and might even go further!
But due to the excessive blood loss, he closed his eyes with deep concern and unease.
“Don’t get worked up.” Rosalind feared he would feel sad and blame himself, so she forced a smile. “I agreed to these conditions because the Walters family can indeed provide better opportunities for the children and give them a brighter future. And… it also means I can come in and see you. It’s a win, win.”
“I don’t believe you’re willing to give up the children.” Ulric didn’t believe a word she said now.
Rosalind felt like she couldn’t hide anything from him.
“I am reluctant, but parents always have far-reaching considerations when it comes to their children. I’m looking ahead.”
“Even without my father, Floyd and Jake can still have a good future! Their father isn’t dead yet.”
As long as he was here, he wouldn’t let his children suffer!
“Alright, this isn’t such a big deal. There’s no need for you to interrogate me about it!” Rosalind wanted to change the subject and avoid further confrontation with him. “You should lie down for a while. I’ll go to Dr. Stewart and get some medicine for my leg.”
Without waiting for Ulric’s consent, she left the ward.
As she wheeled herself towards Rebecca’s office door, she suddenly heard what seemed like Caesar’s voice from inside.
“Rebecca, if only you could become my daughter-in-law.”
