Rebecca pointed to his wound. “Then just lie down, and let me see where the bleeding is coming from! You wouldn’t want Miss Ruell to come back and see you covered in blood, would you?”
Of all Caesar’s words, this was the only thing he got right.
Rosalind was Ulric’s weakness.
And now, Rebecca was making precise use of that weakness.
Caesar, seeing his son finally cooperating, felt relieved but also infuriated. “You’re ruining your body for a woman?!”
“Rosalind must have faced a lot of difficulties just to see me. How could you not feel sorry for her back then?”
“She’s not part of the Walters family!”
Ulric scoffed dismissively, “Being a Walters doesn’t make you superior.”
Caesar had never been challenged by his son like this before. He was so angry that he almost couldn’t catch his breath!
Rebecca, realizing that things were escalating in a bad direction, quickly intervened while tending to the wound. “Alright, Uncle Caesar! Can you two stop arguing? The patient needs peace and quiet to recover. Getting angry won’t help with the healing process!”
“He started arguing with me first!”
“Well then, why don’t you leave the hospital for a while? That way, he won’t be able to find you for an argument.” Rebecca efficiently redressed Ulric’s wound. The monitoring device had been damaged and had to be removed for now.
With everything done, Rebecca intended to take Caesar aside for a private conversation to prevent him from constantly upsetting the patient. However, as they reached the door, Ulric suddenly called out to her.
“Don’t tell Rosalind about what just happened.”
“So now you know she will worry.”
Rebecca sighed and separated the two hot-headed men.
She led Caesar into her office, poured him a glass of water, and smiled, “Uncle Caesar, don’t be angry anymore. Father and son should be able to have a proper conversation.”
“It’s impossible! It’s been so long, and he still refuses to compromise! He insists on marrying Rosalind!”
Rebecca was taken aback and confused. “Hasn’t he already…”
“The Walters family will never accept her!” Caesar slammed the table in anger. “Even if I have to give up on this son of mine, I won’t allow her to marry into the Walters family! Initially, I didn’t want to interfere in his personal matters, but look at him now! He’s so infatuated with Rosalind that he doesn’t even care about his own well-being! As a father, how can I not be heartbroken?”
Rebecca quickly tried to calm him down as she saw his face turning red. She didn’t want him to pass out from anger!
“Even if you have different opinions, you should still talk it out properly! Don’t act impulsively! Both you and Aunt Audrey have health issues and should avoid getting angry.”
“It’s not like I want to get angry! And my request is simple. Rosalind cannot marry into the Walters family!”
“Why?” Rebecca didn’t fully understand but couldn’t completely disagree either.
It could only be a few reasons-mother-in-law and daughter-in-law relationship or social status mismatch.
“Who does she think she is? Is she worthy of being part of the Walters family?”
“Rebecca, it’s not that I’m being harsh. You grew up in a big family. If you want to marry an ordinary person now, I’m sure your parents won’t agree either!”
After thinking for a moment, Rebecca could only reluctantly nod in agreement. She didn’t fully agree but couldn’t deny this statement either.
Indeed, it seemed that descendants of elite families always had to obey arranged marriages within their families. Not many could escape from it, especially in the case of the Walters family with only one son.
