“She hurt our son. Do you think I’m not heartbroken? But now that she’s gone crazy, let’s spare her life! I promise you. I won’t help her with anything anymore. If she causes any more trouble, you can deal with her as you wish!”
Caesar didn’t understand his wife!
He even felt like Sirena was her biological child!
“She wanted to kill our son! Are you still defending her?”
“But the real culprit behind all this is Rosalind! I can understand Sirena’s feelings. She felt hopeless not being with Ulric, so she…”
“That’s enough!” Caesar coldly interrupted her. However, looking at his wife’s pleading eyes, he couldn’t bring himself to say anything harsher. “You better pray that Ulric is fine. If anything happens to him, I will never let Sirena get away with it.”
Audrey nodded. “If my son is gone, I will go with him.”
“I hope you know what you’re doing…”
Caesar sighed heavily and then saw a doctor coming out of the operating room.
He quickly approached and asked, “How is my son?”
“His condition isn’t very good. He briefly regained consciousness during the surgery and kept muttering something about ‘Rosa’. Is that someone he knows?”
Caesar and Audrey exchanged glances, understanding each other.
“No! My son doesn’t know anyone named ‘Rosa’.” Audrey still desperately tried to distance her son from any connection with Rosalind.
The doctor, of course, didn’t know the whole story. He nodded. “I must have misheard then. I thought if there was someone close to the patient, it might be helpful to bring the person in at a critical moment. At least it could strengthen the patient’s will to survive because his injuries are severe. Whenever he regains some consciousness, he starts calling for ‘Rosa’, but his voice is too weak for me to hear clearly.”
“Can I go in then? I beg him to live for me!” Audrey anxiously held onto the doctor’s hand. “I am his mother. Is there anyone more important to him than me?”
The doctor paused and patted her hand reassuringly, “Alright, don’t worry. Not for now! I’ll call you when it’s necessary.”
After saying that, he was about to leave when Caesar quickly stepped forward and stopped him.
“Yes?”
“If… if my son calls out that name again, tell him that Rosalind is fine.”
…
Rosalind remained unconscious for nearly 30 hours.
Almost all of her wounds had become infected and were festering, causing a persistent high fever.
“How have you been taking care of the patient? If you had waited any longer, she would have lost her leg!” The doctor stormed out, furious as he scolded Malcolm. “She just had surgery for a broken bone! How could you let her leave the hospital and stand in the rain all night? Was she trying to commit suicide?”
Malcolm kept his head down the entire time. The dark circles under his eyes had become more pronounced.
Since Rosalind was saved until now, he hadn’t dared to close his eyes even for a moment! Aside from Tilda, Malcolm trusted no one else. But Tilda had to take care of two children…
“I’m sorry, doctor. Please do your best to save her!”
“Do you know that if the infection worsens, it could lead to multiple organ failure? By then, she would be beyond saving!”
“How is she now?”
The doctor gave him a sharp look, mistaking him for the patient’s husband.
“At least we saved her life! She’s no longer in immediate danger, but if she continues to neglect her health like this, she’ll definitely lose the use of both her legs! She won’t be able to stand for the rest of her life!”
