Ulric immediately took the photo and walked out to call Cedric.
“Check the surveillance for Room 908 at the Dreamview Hotel in Wayer City. There’s a little girl who looks a lot like Rosalind. Find out where she is.”
“Yes, Mr. Walters!”
“Wait-” Ulric softened his voice and said quietly, “After you find the surveillance footage, send it to my email. I want to see it.”
He didn’t want to wait long, for Cedric to investigate and for the child to be brought back to Northville City. He wanted to see his daughter immediately!
“Understood.”
After hanging up the phone, Ulric repeatedly stroked the photo with his fingertip.
In the picture, Rosalind’s smile was as beautiful as a flower, her eyes filled with gentle warmth.
The two children were smiling happily, each holding one of their mommy’s arms, close and dependent.
Ulric looked at the blank space in the photo, his gaze darkening.
If he hadn’t been bound by gentlemanly education from a young age, if he had let go of those manners and rules earlier, would his figure also be in this photo?
But it’s not too late, not too late…
“I won’t let you go again.”
…
Rosalind never expected that her deepest sleep in days would be at Easthaven Bay, in Ulric’s house.
Early the next morning, as she turned over slightly, she felt a small hand clutching her clothes.
Jake hadn’t let go all night!
Instinctively, Rosalind reached out to feel his forehead. He wasn’t feverish, his little brows weren’t furrowed; his stomach must have stopped hurting.
She tiptoed out of bed and just as she left the room, she smelled something delicious coming from the kitchen.
For a moment, Rosalind almost thought she had returned to four years ago!
“Awake? Breakfast is ready.” Ulric came out of the kitchen, wiping his hands. His tone was calm and natural, as if they had always lived this way.
“… Ulric, I need to see B7.”
“Sit down first.” Ulric pulled out a chair and sat down, then looked up at her with his dark eyes. “Can you tell me why you need to see him?”
Rosalind immediately became alert, her eyes full of wariness.
“No! This is my privacy!”
“I’m not forcing you to tell me. I just thought that if you’re willing to share, I might be able to help.”
Help her?
Rosalind pulled her lips into a slight smile.
That was because Ulric didn’t know what was involved; otherwise, he wouldn’t say that.
“No need. I’ll talk to B7 alone! Ulric, I hope you’ll keep your promise.”
“Of course. Once you’ve had breakfast, I’ll take you.”
Although Rosalind was anxious, Ulric had already started eating. She couldn’t drag him away now, so she picked up the glass of milk and took a sip.
“What about Jake? He’s not awake yet; I’ll go wake him for breakfast!”
“He likes to sleep in. I’ve already kept his portion warm in the kitchen. He’ll eat when he wakes up.” Naturally, Ulric had Jake’s portion ready long ago.
Seeing how well he had arranged everything made Rosalind feel a bit guilty.
She hadn’t made Jake breakfast in years! Here with Ulric, Jake truly seemed like a little young master with everything taken care of for him.
She said nothing more and just focused on eating.
Suddenly, Ulric spoke up. “I once went to Wayer City and stayed at the Dreamview Hotel there. I met a little girl who loved candy.”
