Ulric furrowed his thick eyebrows and turned directly to meet her gaze, their eyes locking.
“I didn’t lie to you.”
His eyes were so intense, so sincere, as if they wanted to draw Rosalind in completely!
She began to regret bringing this up with Ulric… now she couldn’t find a way out of the situation herself.
Rosalind coughed lightly, pretending to be calm, and looked away. “Mr. Walters, let’s talk about work.”
“Sure, let’s talk about work,” Ulric accepted readily. “You’re working overtime today.”
“Ulric-”
Rosalind was so angry she gritted her teeth. “What exactly do you want? You said yourself that you hated me when we divorced. What, does the high-and-mighty Mr. Walters plan to go back on his word? After I dumped you once, you still plan to shamelessly pursue me?”
Perhaps her words were too harsh; Ulric’s handsome face turned pale, and he regained some rationality.
He had been thrown off balance by Malcolm’s phone call.
Hearing Rosalind speak so affectionately to Malcolm about picking her up after work filled him with jealousy, consuming his entire being!
Ulric took a deep breath, turned his body back around, and sat upright.
In an instant, he seemed to revert to the Ulric that Rosalind knew-aloof, reticent, untouchable.
He didn’t respond to Rosalind’s question; he silently drove the car towards the meeting place agreed upon with their business partner.
For the rest of the time, he behaved very professionally-from negotiation to finalization and even sending Rosalind back to the company-without giving her an extra glance.
It was as if they had returned to their starting point.
He was the CEO; she was just a small assistant.
After saying those words, Rosalind naturally felt uncomfortable too.
She knew Ulric wasn’t a promiscuous man. That kind of thing… might really have been just a physical need. But even if Ulric hadn’t remarried or loved anyone else again, would the obstacles between them disappear?
No.
Ulric hadn’t let go of her because he didn’t know that all these years, she had been focused on putting his mother in prison!
No, perhaps not just his mother but also his father and everyone who had helped Sirena!
She wouldn’t let any of them go.
…
Ulric had promised Jake to take him to the hospital to see Johnny.
So after finishing his work at the company, he went back to Easthaven Bay to pick him up.
Once in the car, Jake kept his head down looking at his phone, the screen refreshing with gibberish every few seconds.
Ulric knew it must be another new virus Jake had created.
As they neared the hospital, Jake finally put down his phone and leaned into the front seat of the car.
“Something’s wrong! You’re acting strange!”
Ulric glanced at him. “Hmm?”
“You suddenly brought that woman here today. Why? You never bring anyone else home.”
Jake had noticed something was off too.
Since it was a test, why did he act so calmly?
There was no follow-up at all!
“Jake, this isn’t your first time meeting her.”
Being asked so directly, Ulric naturally didn’t hide anymore. “You think you’re a good actor?”
“… I don’t understand what you’re talking about!”
“Then I’ll be blunt. I suspect Rosalind is your mother.”
Jake felt his heart stop! He instinctively denied it.
“No way!”
“Jake, she left me. I didn’t know you existed.”
