When Rosalind saw his expression, she couldn’t fall behind. She quickly said, “Mr. Walters, I’ll wait for you outside then! Don’t make the kid unhappy.”
She thought Ulric would react somehow, but he just nodded, “Okay.”
Rosalind turned and left Easthaven Bay, feeling that something was off about Ulric’s attitude but couldn’t pinpoint what it was exactly.
Since he brought her to meet Jake, wasn’t it to test her? But he didn’t do anything suspicious and even went straight to the kitchen to cook as soon as they got home!
What hidden trap was there that she couldn’t identify?
Rosalind waited anxiously in the car for a while before seeing Ulric come out of the house with a paper bag in his hand.
After getting in the car, he handed the bag to Rosalind.
“I packed this for you.”
“No need, skipping a meal won’t hurt. I’ll eat after work tonight!”
Ulric glanced at her, his thin lips moving slightly, “Overtime tonight, triple pay.”
Hearing about overtime, she quickly protested, “Not tonight, I have plans!”
Malcolm had finally arranged a meeting with B7 for her today; she couldn’t miss it.
But Ulric’s tone wasn’t one of negotiation.
“Rosalind, this is your new project. Overtime is normal. Be professional.”
“Can I do it tomorrow? No matter how late it is, I have an appointment with Malcolm today-”
“No.” Ulric’s response was firm, leaving no room for negotiation.
Rosalind frowned, feeling that he was deliberately making things difficult for her.
Since the acquisition of Eastsun Corporation began, he had decided to take revenge on her!
“Mr. Walters, even if you want me to work overtime, you should consult with your employees first. Especially with such short notice; I have the right to refuse.”
“Of course you can refuse! I have many ways to make him disappear from Northville City.”
When Ulric said this, he still maintained his gentlemanly and noble demeanor, making it hard to tell it was a threat.
But Rosalind knew exactly what Ulric meant and who “he” referred to in that sentence.
“You can’t touch Malcolm!”
Ulric looked at her through the rearview mirror, his dark eyes deepening.
“In what capacity are you saying this to me?”
Rosalind’s eyes widened as various words flashed through her mind quickly. In the end, she realized she could only tear down this facade with Ulric!
“We’ve both moved on with our lives. What’s the point of doing this?”
Ulric didn’t speak; he just looked at her through the mirror.
After a long silence, a barely audible sigh escaped…
“Rosalind, I didn’t marry anyone.”
“…”
“All these years, I’ve been standing still.”
He had tried many times to move forward, forget Rosalind, forget the past, let go of his obsession. But when he truly attempted it, he found he couldn’t do it.
He would rather be trapped in his own prison waiting hopelessly than convince himself to move on.
Rosalind was stunned.
Perhaps if she had heard these words earlier, she would have chosen to believe them immediately.
But after seeing with her own eyes the ambiguous marks on his body, these words were doubtful.
He definitely had a woman!
The kind of woman who shared his bed and whispered sweet nothings!
So after a few seconds of shock, she suddenly laughed softly. “It’s been years since we last met. Mr. Walters, you’ve learned how to lie and deceive women.”
