Jake immediately choked on his rice and started coughing violently.
Ulric quickly got up and patted his back. “Eat slowly, no one is going to take it from you.”
“I’m fine!” Jake waved his hand, avoiding eye contact with Ulric.
At first, Ulric was genuinely worried about Jake choking, but when he noticed Jake’s slightly unusual behavior, he realized something was wrong.
The more Jake tried to hide it, the more it proved there was an issue.
However, this time Ulric chose not to ask directly. Instead, he pretended not to notice anything and finished the meal with him as usual.
Jake had become wary of the previous tactics, but there were many more strategies to use.
First, let Rosalind work at W Group; the rest would come gradually.

In the hospital, Johnny showed no signs of improvement.
A deep scar on his face could not be removed. Although multiple fractures on his body were not life-threatening, he would no longer be able to do heavy physical work in the future.
The only good news was that his condition hadn’t worsened.
Mrs. Chow had cried so much that her eyes were swollen and she fainted several times. Mr. Chow had forcibly sent her to the hotel to rest while he stayed at the door alone.
When Sirena arrived, she saw Mr. Chow staring blankly at the ICU sign.
She carried a lot of things in her hands and adjusted her expression before approaching him.
“Mr. Chow.”
Mr. Chow saw her coming and stood up immediately, but his attitude was noticeably colder than when he saw Ulric.
“Yes, you’re here.”
“I came to see Johnny! Hasn’t there been any improvement?”
Mr. Chow nodded. “Now we’re just waiting for the doctor to see if he needs brain surgery.”
“Sigh! Mr. Chow, your health isn’t good either. How about I come over after work to watch over him? I don’t have anything else to do anyway. You and Auntie can go back to the hotel and rest.”
“No need, I’m worried someone might harm my son.” Mr. Chow’s words were quite direct.
He believed that if Sirena had nothing to hide, these words wouldn’t bother her. If she had other intentions, it would be good for her to hear them.
Sure enough, Mr. Chow noticed a flicker of unease on Sirena’s face.
“Mr. Chow, didn’t the police say it was an accident? No one wants to harm Johnny!”
“That’s uncertain. My son has a simple nature and doesn’t have much guile; it’s easy for him to offend someone unintentionally! Didn’t you mention before that my son always liked to get involved in matters between you and Ulric? I’ve talked to him about it, but he wouldn’t listen. He said he considered both of you good friends and couldn’t ignore your issues.”
“Johnny is a good person; I know his temperament!”
Mr. Chow looked up at her and smiled. “Yes! By the way, I wanted to ask you something. I heard that before my son drove away from W Group, he had a bit of an argument with you at the company. Do you know what that was about?”
“… Just work-related stuff.”
“Really? What I heard didn’t sound like a work discussion.” Mr. Chow coughed lightly and waved his hand. “It’s okay if you don’t want to say; we won’t force you. When Ulric comes to the hospital, I’ll have him look into it! I just found out myself and haven’t told him yet. Since you’re here first, I thought I’d ask you.”
These words clearly indicated that Mr. Chow did not believe what Sirena said.
