“What are you doing! Violating the rules, huh?” Malachi roared.
The man still looked defiant and turned to inspect another car.
Callie gave Malachi a deep look, then started the engine and drove to a parking spot. She quickly walked back in her high heels.
“Malachi, are you unable to investigate because you’ve upset someone else’s vested interests? Tell me who it is, it’s very important to me.”
Callie almost pleaded, grabbing Malachi’s sleeve.
“Mrs. Oconnor, I will handle these matters, but have you taken care of your own issues?” Malachi said, unable to shake her off.
Callie was stunned; it seemed the whole world knew about her situation.
Malachi continued inspecting cars, and Callie followed him. “Nothing is more important than my father’s matter, Malachi. You must have parents too. Can you understand me?”
“Maybe you can’t solve it, but you can tell me. I operate outside the system and can work more efficiently and cooperate better with you.”
Even after all this, Malachi remained silent.
Callie could only guess, “The Ellison family? Scott Group? Or Oconnor Group?”
She guessed all three major families in Ylosea.
Malachi still signaled the driver to show his license without speaking.
“In the beginning, you asked me many times if the Oconnor Group had enemies. Do you have any suspects? Who is it?” Callie was desperate, her high heels hurting on the rough road.
Malachi sighed. Seeing her persistence, he walked to the next car, knocked on the window, and said, “None of them, Mrs. Oconnor. Without evidence, I can’t speak recklessly.”
“You…” Callie couldn’t finish her sentence because the face behind the lowered window was very familiar.
The man wore black-rimmed glasses and looked scholarly, now looking at Callie with difficulty. “Madam.”
Callie frowned deeply and realized this car looked very familiar; it was the Porsche Nelson often used.
If Anthony was here, then…
Callie slowly raised her eyes. The rear window was already lowering. Under the neon lights, the man’s features were clear and sharp, exuding an unavoidable sense of oppression.
“Malachi, we meet again,” Nelson said calmly.
Malachi sensed something subtle and glanced at Callie. “Indeed, tonight is quite a coincidence.”
After finishing his routine check with Anthony, he moved to the next car. Callie wanted to follow, “I…”
But for some reason, she couldn’t keep up. Maybe Nelson’s gaze was too intense.
Callie stood still for a moment before hesitatingly saying, “… I’ll leave now.”
“Callie,” Nelson suddenly spoke.
She stopped.
“The lawyer has drafted the divorce agreement. Come with me to get it.”
Callie didn’t move but felt a chilling sensation down her spine. She breathed in the summer night’s air and turned after a moment. “Okay.”
It was quite fast, actually. One or two days? The Oconnor Group’s lawyers were efficient.
“But my car is still ahead. I need to inform my employee to drive it back.”
“Someone has already been sent to inform them.”
Following that was the sound of car doors opening and closing.
This car had been parked for a long time, causing dissatisfaction behind it. But seeing the arrogant license plate and car body, no one dared to speak up.
Callie walked to the other side and got in. Soon, the car started moving.
Between her and the man were two empty seats, creating a quiet yet subtle atmosphere.
