Chapter 785: Hitting a Wall

Looking up, a woman in a white dress quickly approached and grabbed Isaac’s hand. “What are you doing? You’re causing trouble again.”
It was Charlotte.
Isaac reluctantly withdrew his hand. “She deserves it.”
Charlotte looked at Callie with an apologetic expression. “I’m sorry, you should leave now.”
Callie’s playful expression vanished upon seeing her. She signaled to Eliza and headed straight for the elevator.
After taking a few steps, Isaac’s impatient voice echoed. “Why are you here?”
“I’m accompanying Nelson to an event today. Don’t cause trouble at this critical moment!” Charlotte’s voice was low but clear.
Eliza looked up worriedly, only to see Callie with a blank expression, seemingly unaffected.
Before entering the elevator, the manager of Kenker Hotel finally stepped forward. “Mrs. Oconnor, we apologize for the inconvenience earlier. It wasn’t our intention…”
Callie interrupted him. “Business people have their own rules. I understand.”
After the incident, they couldn’t gauge Nelson’s stance and didn’t know if she would still be Mrs. Oconnor, so naturally, they didn’t dare to help her.
She understood.
The studio wanted to secure the design rights for a piece of land and needed to meet the Minister of Land Resources, who was attending an event at Kenker Hotel today. This was the only opportunity.
“Sorry.” The secretary came out with an apologetic look. “Our Chief doesn’t have time.”
Such high-level officials were indeed hard to schedule, especially when things weren’t resolved yet. Avoiding suspicion by not meeting was understandable.
Callie expected this. “Thank you.”
However, just as she turned around, she saw someone of similar status hurriedly arrive, exchange pleasantries with the secretary, and get let in.
Eliza widened her eyes and stomped her foot in frustration. “How can this be? Why do they get to go in!”
Callie felt bitter, realizing that her current status made it even harder to gain a foothold than when she had nothing.
“Miss Marsh, I actually have a suggestion.” The secretary couldn’t bear it and spoke up.
“Please go ahead.”
“Go find Mr. Oconnor and ask him for some authority. It would make things easier.”
It was pointless advice.
She understood that these people were all waiting for her to make a fool of herself.
Callie found a place to sit and reviewed the documents.
The land’s location was tricky. Without an experienced and professional design team, this project wouldn’t be handled properly.
Callie was confident that in all of Ylosea, there were no more than three teams capable of handling this project, and they were one of them.
The other two were industry leaders who didn’t necessarily need this project, making them the best choice.
But now they weren’t choosing her, which clearly indicated targeted opposition.
Callie booked a separate room next to the Chief’s box.
The partition between them was an antique-style carved screen.
She could vaguely see shadows but still had a strong sense of privacy.
Callie peeked through while handing the menu to Eliza. “Order whatever you want.”
Eliza opened it and was shocked by the prices. She whispered, “It’s too expensive. Does our studio still have money?”
Callie couldn’t help but laugh. “Just order.”
She sat facing the screen and could barely see inside. At the moment, only the Chief was there. As their dishes were served one by one, a man led a woman in, followed by several others, quickly filling the table. The Chief greeted them with handshakes and small talk.
