“Charlotte?” Eliza was also watching, and she immediately recognized the woman she had just seen.
Callie’s heart skipped a beat as she met Charlotte’s eyes. They exchanged a knowing look…
If Charlotte was here, then Nelson must be too.
Soon, Callie heard his deep voice. She couldn’t make out what he was saying, but the tone was unmistakable, unforgettable.
She clearly remembered how that voice had once whispered all sorts of sweet things in her ear.
Now it felt unfamiliar.
Callie’s expression suddenly turned cold as she realized she had fallen into a trap.
The party inside was lively. As the drinks flowed, the guests became more and more enthusiastic, showing no signs of stopping. Chief was in high spirits and suddenly asked loudly, “May I ask, Mr. Oconnor and Miss Ellison, are you getting married soon?”
The room fell silent for a moment.
Callie downed a glass of wine.
Eliza tugged at her, “Callie, you shouldn’t drink anymore.”
At that moment, Charlotte’s flattering voice came from inside, “We’ll definitely send you some wedding candies when the time comes.”
Callie smiled sweetly, “Drinking gives me courage.”
Their party lasted until ten o’clock.
Probably worried about bad publicity, it ended quickly.
Callie and Eliza hurried to the underground parking lot. Callie walked fast, as if not giving herself a chance to regret.
Eliza had wanted to gossip but saw Callie’s grim face and kept quiet.
They checked car after car until they finally found Chief’s car. Callie knocked on the door with her documents, but there was no response.
She knocked again, and the window rolled down. It wasn’t Chief in the driver’s seat but a grim-faced Nelson.
Callie’s smile froze on her face. The smell of alcohol was strong; she couldn’t tell if it was hers or his.
Eliza waited outside for a long time without hearing anything. She peeked in and saw Callie calmly nodding, “Sorry to bother you.”
Then she quickly walked away. Eliza followed in confusion, “Callie!”
In the passenger seat, Charlotte’s makeup was smudged. She hurriedly fixed her clothes as the window rolled down. Even a fool could guess what had happened and what was about to happen.
Why did Nelson do this? To disgust her?
“Is it fun?” This was the first thing Callie said to him.
But she couldn’t deny that at the moment she saw them, her heart felt like it was being cut by a knife.
“Callie.”
In the dimly lit basement, Eliza chased after Callie with a pile of documents, almost tripping. She instinctively grabbed Callie’s coat.
She looked up in confusion, “What’s wrong?”
Callie was so angry that she felt lightheaded. She rubbed her forehead, “I fell into a trap. Let’s call it a night. Can you get home by yourself?”
Eliza blinked, and the next second, Callie took the documents from her and walked into the crowd outside, disappearing from sight.
When Eliza realized what had happened, she shouted, “Be careful! Remember to drink some sobering soup!”
A faint reply came back, “Got it.”
“Beep-”
Suddenly, a car horn sounded behind her, startling Eliza. She moved aside and shielded her eyes from the bright headlights.
It was a Porsche 918. As it passed by, she saw the man in the driver’s seat through the open window and her eyes lit up with surprise!
“Mr. Oconnor!”
Nelson didn’t hear her; his profile was extremely cold.
This time, his passenger seat was empty.
