“Well, isn’t this our famous Mrs. Oconnor.”
A mocking voice came from the right side of the hall. It was a man’s voice, filled with arrogance.
Callie and Eliza looked over and saw Isaac dressed in a suit, hands in his pockets, exuding a mix of sophistication and roguishness.
He eyed Callie with ill intent.
Callie closed her eyes briefly, feeling that misfortune had struck her again.
She wanted to pretend she hadn’t heard him and continue walking, but Isaac stepped forward to block her path. “Mrs. Oconnor, now that you’re famous, you don’t want to recognize old friends?”
Callie slowly raised her eyes, unhurriedly, “Do we count as old friends?”
Isaac smiled, “Why not? We’ve been through so much together, shared hardships. Now that you’re famous, you want to write it all off?”
Every word was laced with mockery and sarcasm.
If it weren’t for the crowd around them, Callie would have loved to smash her bag over his head.
She glanced around and decided to swallow her anger for now. “If you have nothing else, I’ll be on my way.”
Her surrender made Isaac’s smile grow wider. “Callie, I didn’t expect you to dare come to Nelson’s place. If I were him, I’d definitely ban you.”
Every man in the world could empathize; being cheated on always led to a disastrous outcome.
Callie knew this well. She lifted her eyelids but remained unresponsive. With so many people around, she didn’t want to cause trouble for Nelson.
The manager of the Kenker Hotel had noticed her as soon as she entered. Now he was in a difficult position; one was the boss’s wife, the other the heir of the Ellison family. He couldn’t afford to offend either.
He wanted to step forward but was stopped by Callie’s discreet gesture for him to retreat.
“Too bad you’re not Nelson,” Callie retorted with a smile. “Even if you threw yourself at me, I wouldn’t be interested because a man who doesn’t respect himself is truly disgraceful.”
Her insinuation made Isaac’s mouth twitch with anger.
“And what are you?” He suddenly snatched the documents from Callie’s hand and blatantly opened them. “Tsk, trying to meet the Minister of Land? You’re daydreaming.”
“You!” Eliza had been listening for a while and wanted to step forward but was held back by Callie.
Isaac waved the documents. “How about spending a night with me? I guarantee you’ll meet him.”
Callie’s breathing grew rapid. In this confrontation, their long-standing grievances finally erupted. Isaac wouldn’t let her go without thoroughly humiliating her.
“Fine.” Callie stepped forward, her high heel pressing down on Isaac’s foot as she leaned in. He gritted his teeth and glared at her.
“Just wonder if Bryanna finds out, will she stir up trouble with the Ellison family? If Regan steps down, what will you use to compete with your sister?”
Callie’s mocking tone and expression infuriated Isaac, who shoved her away. “Regan is nothing! I once beat her half to death!”
“Oh.” Callie nodded. “I heard most of your projects were secured by her. Mr. Ellison, do you dare say that in front of her now?”
The greatest insult to a man’s dignity was making him lose face and mocking him for living off a woman!
Isaac was furious and raised his hand to strike her. “You bitch!”
“Isaac,” a voice suddenly called from the staircase.
