At this time, during the peak hours of work at the Oconnor Group, Nelson’s Porsche was parked conspicuously by the roadside.
Callie stepped out of the car, drawing even more attention because Nelson was by her side.
As they entered the building, everyone would greet them with “Mr. Oconnor” and “Mrs. Oconnor”.
Some people who knew how to play the game would even boldly say, “It’s been a while since we’ve seen you, Mrs. Oconnor.”
Callie smiled lightly and nodded in acknowledgment.
With his hands in his pockets, Nelson followed behind her, not feeling too ostentatious. In fact, he felt a faint sense of joy.
Callie made her way up to the top floor. The staff hadn’t all arrived yet, but Charlotte was already there.
She had arrived early and was working in her office. When she heard the automatic doors open, she immediately looked up and said, “Nelson.”
But before the words could fully leave her mouth, she saw Callie’s figure. Callie walked faster than Nelson, and he willingly followed behind her.
Charlotte was taken aback.
“… Callie.”
Callie smiled even brighter, “You came early. It seems like you’re really suited for this position.”
Charlotte struggled to force a smile and looked at Nelson with eyes filled with helplessness and pity.
But just then, a senior executive rushed into the office, holding a stack of documents. “Mr. Oconnor, we finally found you. These are the newly signed projects that need your review.”
It seemed urgent. Nelson glanced at Callie briefly, nodded faintly, and turned to accompany the executive to the lounge for a discussion.
Now there were only two people left in the spacious office, facing each other in a standoff.
Charlotte forced a bitter smile, “I don’t understand what you mean. Are you mocking me?”
“I wouldn’t dare mock the eldest daughter of the Ellison family. This position is unworthy of you. It’s a waste for someone like you to do this kind of job.”
Callie sat directly in Nelson’s chair, looking up at Charlotte.
The latter was naturally intimidated by her presence. She didn’t even dare to touch Nelson’s hand, but Callie dared to sit directly in his seat.
“I enjoy this job myself. There’s no question of it being a waste. My father is also very satisfied.”
Callie nodded and caught the key point in Charlotte’s statement. She meant that Ahmad and Nelson’s power struggle was none of anyone else’s business.
Callie picked up the coffee prepared for Nelson on the table, took a sip, and frowned slightly. “I’m not very satisfied.”
Charlotte straightened her body and watched as Callie poured all the coffee down the drain. “What do you mean?”
“Let professionals handle professional matters. I’m sure you don’t want to be a personal assistant forever. How about this? You leave the Oconnor Group and do what you’re supposed to do. I think your family would agree. After all, it wouldn’t sound good if Miss Ellison is known as a personal assistant at Oconnor Group.”
Callie finished speaking with a smile and saw Charlotte’s resistant expression. She raised an eyebrow and asked, “What’s wrong? Or do you have bigger ambitions staying here?”
Charlotte’s pupils contracted.
Callie persisted, “Is it to become Mrs. Oconnor?”
She dared to say it, but Charlotte couldn’t bear to hear it. She took a step back upon hearing those words and shook her head. “Only Mr. Oconnor has the authority to make decisions about my position.”
“That’s right, he is your boss.” Callie glanced towards the lounge. “Unfortunately, his boss is me.”
“Miss Ellison, leave today.”
With that said, Callie stood up and walked to the floor-to-ceiling window, overlooking the bustling cityscape, no longer wanting to say another word to her.
Tears welled up in Charlotte’s eyes as she watched Callie’s figure. She inexplicably felt a newfound air of decisiveness and ruthlessness from her that she hadn’t seen before.
