Not long after Charlotte left, Nelson emerged from the lounge and silently embraced Callie from behind. “Are you satisfied now?”
His breath brushed against her neck, causing Callie to shudder involuntarily. “Isn’t this what you wanted? To use me to get rid of the trouble Ahmad caused you.”
She tilted her head slightly, her face close to his. “Let me play the bad guy, Mr. Oconnor. You’re quite willing.”
The fact that Nelson allowed her to finish speaking meant that he tacitly agreed, or rather, from the beginning, he didn’t want Charlotte by his side.
His kisses peppered her neck, and her breathing became rapid.
“As long as you’re satisfied.”
As she was forced to look up, Callie’s mind flashed with many people and events. She didn’t have the mood to continue and pushed him away. “I want to find Reuben. It might require some power. Will you provide it?”
This trip with Anbusea made Callie realize one thing: depending on others always leads to death. Although she had achieved some success in her own field, it was far from enough to protect herself.
Nelson’s eyes were empty, making it difficult to discern what he was thinking.
He reached out and weakly held her. “Alright.”
Callie felt numb.
The power Nelson was willing to give started with the Oconnor Group.
Important projects were directly given to Callie.
As a new project approached its launch phase, Callie led her team and departed from the Oconnor Group that evening. Nelson personally accompanied Callie to the airport, holding her hand in his palm. However, she was busy answering one phone call after another, leaving no time for leisure. The only thing she said to him upon arrival was, “Will you have time when I come back? Your birthday is coming up.”
Nelson remained composed and warm throughout. “We will have time.”
“I won’t accompany you this time. Learn to adapt on your own. Can you do that?”
He entrusted her with a major responsibility.
“Alright.”
She got out of the car and left.
Nelson regained his composure.
The plane flew at an altitude of thirty thousand feet, and Nelson’s face appeared in Callie’s mind-sharp and gentle at the same time. He always had patience with her.
In the trading hall of Afupshire, many media outlets gathered as Callie and her team rang the opening bell, wearing appropriate smiles and announcing the company’s listing.
During interviews, she answered fluently and received praise from foreign media.
An assistant handed Callie a document that Nelson had given him in China. It was about Oconnor Group’s internet industry, which was now fully entrusted to Callie’s management.
At the bottom, Nelson’s signature was clean and neat. Inside the document folder was also a piece of white paper with Chinese characters written on it: “Callie, your happiness is my greatest joy.”
Coincidentally, when Callie returned to Ylosea, Nelson had left for a business trip elsewhere, though she wasn’t sure where.
It was unusual for him not to inform her of his whereabouts since he usually reported to her whenever he went somewhere.
While making a phone call, Callie was in his study and heard him calmly discussing an issue with a major cooperation. “I’ll be back soon.”
Callie’s fingers brushed over various books on the bookshelf until she pulled one out and placed it on the desk. “Um.”
“I saw the live broadcast. You did well in Afupshire.” The man smiled, his voice easily evoking memories of a warm winter afternoon.
Callie pulled out another book. “Did Charlotte look for you?”
“No. Don’t worry about it.” He paused briefly.
“Okay.”
