“Wait patiently,” Nelson tried to calm down Callie, but she felt like a heavy stone weighed on her heart.
She was almost forced to return to Paucaster Villa Complex to get some proper sleep.
But her nerves were so tense that she couldn’t close her eyes.
“We watched the sea together today. He told me many things. He said as long as I’m happy, he will be at ease.” Callie sat on the edge of the bed, hugging her knees tightly, her eyes filled with tears.
Nelson sat beside her.
He couldn’t imagine if those words were a farewell…
Just thinking about it made Callie’s heart ache. She had finally woken Reuben up, finally experienced some fatherly love, and now he had suddenly disappeared again…
That night, Nelson received numerous calls. It wasn’t until dawn that he returned to the master bedroom.
The morning light spilled over him, “What we can confirm is that he didn’t get lost on his own.”
Callie’s fragile expression was on the verge of collapse. Her body went limp, and Nelson reached out to support her. “We can also confirm that he is still alive.”
To say such words meant the situation was likely dire. “I don’t just want him alive now; I want him to stay alive.”
Callie clutched his sleeve, hysterical. “Nelson, who did this? Tell me, who did this!”
Nelson’s large hand rested on the back of her head, forcing her into his embrace. He held her tightly, comforting her. “We’re still investigating, Callie. Once we find out, I won’t let them go!”
“Nelson, I can’t lose my dad…” Callie whimpered like a small animal, her voice gradually weakening.
All Nelson could do was give her a hug, letting her know he was there.
“The current clues are weak and widespread. Leave it to me to handle, Callie. I can handle it,” he said each word with conviction. “Trust me.”
Callie closed her eyes in despair.
It seemed the various conflicts within Oconnor Group had inevitably dragged her family into it.
Before Nelson left, he specifically instructed the servants to keep a close watch on her. “Don’t let her leave.”
Half a day after he left, Malachi called. His words were similar to Nelson’s findings. “The question now is, do you have any enemies, Miss Marsh? You need to tell us everything so we can act quickly.”
Callie propped her head with one hand, feeling a splitting headache. She remained silent for a long time, several times wanting to speak but ultimately saying nothing.
“… Miss Marsh?”
Nelson had told her to trust him.
“Officer, no.”
The other side asked in disbelief, “No? Are you sure?”
“… I’m sure.”
There was silence on the other end too. “As far as I know, Nelson from Oconnor Group is your husband. Such a large corporation having no enemies is hard to believe.”
Callie couldn’t lie, especially with Reuben missing. But Nelson’s information was faster than the police’s; he must have some means to find Reuben.
So… she didn’t want to disclose Oconnor Group’s situation and add unnecessary trouble for Nelson.
“Officer, no.”
Unable to get the answer he wanted, Malachi had to hang up for now but reminded her before doing so, “Your father will have been missing for 24 hours soon. If you remember anything, please contact me immediately.”
The servants wouldn’t let Callie leave Paucaster Villa Complex. She went to Reuben’s room; it was clean and tidy. The box she had retrieved last time was neatly placed on the bedside table.
Callie opened it and looked through it again; it was still the same things. The medical license was still glaringly obvious.
