Nelson had previously mentioned the specific address to her, and it was nearby.
She groped her way up the office building, following her memory. As she pushed open the door, she heard Anthony’s voice.
He was directing the employees, each one busy and bustling.
Callie knocked on the door. Anthony instinctively looked up, his gaze fixed on her, “Madam? Why are you here?”
Callie scanned him, “I should ask you, why are you here?”
Anthony’s eyes shifted, “Mr. Oconnor sent me to supervise this project, so I came.”
“Really?” Callie raised her voice.
There were only a few trusted people around Nelson. The Oconnor Group was already busy, why would they send Anthony over?
Her question made Anthony wipe the sweat from his forehead. Callie’s natural authority was very much like Nelson’s.
“Of course, it’s a lateral move for me.”
Callie remained suspicious. She glanced at the people in the office. Anthony asked, “Madam, why are you here today?”
Unable to pinpoint any issues, Callie mentioned Skye’s situation, “Keep an eye out.”
Anthony noted it down, “Alright, I won’t let her sneak in.”
With nothing else to do, Callie turned to leave. Before entering the elevator, she suddenly remembered something, “If you’re not there, who is by his side?”
Anthony was taken aback but quickly answered, “There’s still the secretarial staff.”
He wasn’t lying. Callie thought about it and agreed.
Downstairs, Callie walked straight to the car. She opened the door, “Reuben…”
Her voice cut off because the car was empty.
Callie’s pupils dilated as a bad feeling washed over her.
She lunged toward the back seat, only to find Reuben’s handkerchief with signs of being tightly gripped.
Callie’s heart raced.
She immediately searched the street, asking passersby, “Excuse me, have you seen an old man about this tall with a cane?”
Everyone said no.
Callie weaved through the crowd, searching frequently. After half an hour, there was still no sign of Reuben. No, he wouldn’t wander off!
Panicking, she called Paucaster Villa Complex, “Has my father returned?”
The servant was surprised, “No, Madam.”
“Keep an eye out and search around Paucaster Villa Complex!”
Callie hung up and ran her hands through her hair in anxiety. She wanted to drive to the police station but feared Reuben might return and not find her car.
She dialed 911.
After explaining the situation, she was direct, “I need to access the nearby surveillance footage.”
Ten minutes later, an officer arrived. He was a tall, thin middle-aged man, “Hello, I’m Malachi.”
Callie gripped his hand tightly, her back drenched in sweat, “Officer, my father had surgery and is a bit confused. I’m really worried…”
Malachi patted her shoulder and conducted a brief inquiry before taking her to nearby shops to show his credentials and request surveillance footage.
But the shop owner said, “Our surveillance is broken.”
Malachi’s expression changed. The owner quickly added, “It’s really broken. You can check. We called the repair company some time ago, but no one has come to fix it.”
The surveillance screen was pitch black; it was indeed broken.
This area had a tricky angle; theirs was the only surveillance covering the street.
Callie’s heart sank further. Something had really happened…
