Chapter 708: How Could I Mistake It?

Book:Married The Day We Met Published:2025-2-7

“Reuben,” Callie opened the door, peeking her head out, “Why are you acting like a child, eager for a spring outing?”
The old man pouted, displeased, “You promised.”
She chuckled, “I’m coming.”
Callie took Reuben out of the Paucaster Villa Complex. Before they left, Nancy reminded her, “Madam, please be careful on the road and drive slowly.”
Callie nodded, understanding.
The Paucaster Villa Complex was not far from the seaside, but it wasn’t very crowded. Reuben liked lively places. After thinking for a moment, she stepped on the gas and headed somewhere else.
The weather was good today; the sea was blue, and many children were playing on the beach with their parents, along with some couples.
Callie checked the time and realized it was the weekend.
Reuben found a spot to sit down, letting the seawater lap at his feet. His expression relaxed significantly.
“Callie, do you remember when you were little, I often brought you to see the sea? You loved playing with sand and collecting shells just like them.”
Callie sat down beside him, “I have some memories. As I grew older, I stopped liking the beach.”
Only when facing difficulties would she come to walk by the sea.
Reuben smiled. The sunlight was so bright that he squinted his eyes. “When I first brought you from Anbusea, you had never seen the sea. You were so fascinated.”
Callie didn’t remember staying in Anbusea and responded with an “Oh,”
“Reuben, you’re confused again.”
Reuben didn’t admit it and pouted, “Nelson didn’t blame you for that incident a few days ago, did he?”
Callie shook her head at this mention, “Don’t worry.”
Reuben took her hand and patted it gently, full of sighs.
“I understand being Mrs. Oconnor isn’t easy. As long as you’re genuinely happy, I’m relieved.”
Callie said seriously, “It’s tough, but with him, I can endure the hardship.”
Reuben seemed to recall something but couldn’t speak. He pointed at the children, “When do you and he plan to have a child?”
Was this urging her? Callie’s face turned red instantly, “Dad…”
Reuben laughed heartily, “It’s time to consider it. If you give the Oconnor family a child, His grandpa and Nelson will be delighted.”
Callie didn’t agree with this idea. She suddenly asked, “But would you be happy?”
Reuben paused, his smile gradually fading, “Honestly, no. Having a child is tough. I don’t want you to suffer.”
In this world, only parents truly care for their children.
Even if she wasn’t his biological daughter.
Callie’s heart warmed.
The sea breeze blew in their faces. Reuben said, “I read in the newspaper recently that the Ellison family found their daughter. Then I saw those photos at home; she looked very similar. Actually, that was her, not you. I was confused.”
His mind was clear at this moment. Callie breathed a sigh of relief, “Yes, you mistook her.”
Reuben scrutinized Callie’s face seriously. His old eyes were filled with melancholy.
“But how could I mistake it…”
The sea breeze was too strong; Callie didn’t hear clearly and asked what he said. Reuben just waved his hand.
After sitting for a while, Callie took Reuben back to the car. Before heading home, she still hadn’t seen Nelson’s call back. Suddenly remembering something, she said, “Reuben, I need to go out for a bit. Fifteen minutes at most. Wait for me in the car.”
Reuben nodded obediently, “Go ahead.”
Worried about any incidents, Callie locked the car before walking away. After a short distance, she returned uneasily and unlocked the car.
It needed ventilation.
The Oconnor Group’s recent construction project was nearby.
