“If I kill him, what can you do about it?” Nelson slowly wiped his hands with a tissue.
Callie shivered; he really could do it. “It’s illegal.”
Nelson sneered, “With you here, he won’t die.”
Callie endured his temper and closed her eyes. “What about that waiter just now? What will you do?”
“Anthony has spoken.”
But Jaquan would certainly not let him go. Callie could hardly imagine the boy’s fate, ending up as a tool just like her.
“Callie,” Nelson suddenly called out, “If I don’t kill Jaquan, he’ll kill me once he realizes it’s me behind it.”
Callie scrutinized him in the night.
In all of Ylosea, Nelson and Jaquan were known to be like water and fire.
About two days later, Callie was making tea for Reuben at Paucaster Villa Complex. He took a sip and shook his head. “Callie, you are not suited for artsy endeavors. Stop making tea.”
Callie was so annoyed she almost laughed. “So I’m only good for drawing?”
Reuben seemed to be taken aback. “Oh right, just focus on your main job.”
Callie was speechless. She picked up her phone and saw a news alert: Another engineering issue in Ylosea, the director of the municipal business office has been dismissed!
Her hand trembled as she held the phone.
Nelson had really done it. In just two days, it was over. Jaquan probably didn’t even have time to fight back.
Callie opened the news article, which detailed corruption issues, stating that Director Jenkins’ family was stopped by the police before they could board a plane.
It was a complete sweep.
She searched for a while but didn’t see any news about Elisha. She calmed down and realized that this outcome was the best Nelson could achieve.
Digging further would be impossible.
Not only would Jaquan stop it, but those above wouldn’t allow it either.
The Scott Group’s reputation was damaged, and Nelson had vented his anger.
But without Callie’s resistance, things could have been better.
“Why are you still angry? I never knew you loved making tea,” Reuben said, trying to comfort her.
Callie snapped back to reality. “Who loves making tea? I don’t.”
“You’ve been doing it for two days now,” Reuben said, clearly affected.
She paused, recalling the elegant figure she saw at Club Paradise, Maevelyn making tea gracefully.
She felt a sense of defeat. “Am I very unrefined?”
As she asked this, she heard a car downstairs. Nelson had returned. Anthony got out first and opened the back door, seeing Callie and waving with a smile.
Callie turned her head away, pretending not to see.
Anthony felt awkward. “Mr. Oconnor, is Madam still angry?”
Nelson didn’t look up as he got out of the car and walked inside. “She’s spoiled.”
“The Ellison family won’t be able to keep it under wraps. There are already rumors in the circle. If Madam hears…” Anthony was worried.
Hearing this, Nelson changed his route from the study to the balcony. Callie was there, covered with a shawl, eyes closed, basking in the sun.
“Dad,” Nelson nodded to Reuben.
Reuben quickly waved him over. “Come here, Callie just made some tea. Try it.”
Clearly, Callie hadn’t poured him any. Nelson lowered his eyes and picked up the cup in front of her. The tea was a bit cold but still had a slightly bitter taste.
“Earl Grey,” Nelson said softly.
