The waiter was dragged out, covered in blood.
Soon, all the waiters present were cleared out. The door to the private room closed, and the waiters filed out. The last one, a middle-aged woman, paused at the corner and changed direction.
Anthony stood at the door to meet her. Within seconds, they exchanged items quickly, barely touching each other in the surveillance footage.
“Mr. Oconnor, we got it.”
Anthony presented a miniature camera that had captured everything in Jaquan’s private room.
The beaten waiter was just a decoy to cover for the real undercover agent.
Nelson glanced at it and handed it to Corey. “Do you think this is enough to file a report?”
Corey’s expression was complicated and hesitant. “Mr. Oconnor, shouldn’t we consult with the city leaders first? The people involved are very influential, and acting rashly…”
Nelson remained impassive and continued to ask, “Is Jaquan’s superior among them?”
Corey looked again. “No.”
“If not, it’s fine. As long as Director Jenkins is there.” Nelson took back the camera and handed it to Anthony, signaling him to proceed.
After the banquet ended, Corey left through the back door. As Nelson and Callie exited, they ran into Jaquan seeing off his guests. His voice was chillingly cold. “Nelson, such interest. Would you honor my Sky Pavilion?”
Nelson held Callie’s hand tightly. “This is a good place. I should come more often.”
Jaquan smiled faintly. “If you come more often, my waiters won’t be able to handle it.”
Nelson also smiled.
Both men understood each other’s actions but did not expose them. Callie felt tired of playing an NPC in their game.
She tried to free her hand.
Receiving a warning glance, Nelson tightened his grip. “Callie, why don’t you greet Mr. Scott?”
Callie met Jaquan’s scrutinizing gaze and looked uncomfortable. “Mr. Scott.”
Jaquan suddenly smiled at her. “Mrs. Oconnor, you are also an old friend of Sky Pavilion. Why didn’t you inform us in advance today?”
His words created an ambiguous atmosphere, and Callie could feel Nelson almost crushing her hand.
“Mr. Scott, you’re joking. You’re too busy; how could I dare disturb you?”
Callie spoke ambiguously, and Jaquan, being smart, naturally sensed something was wrong. “Too busy?” He repeated and then said to Nelson, “Nelson, you married a good wife.”
Nelson’s brow furrowed with coldness. “Your wife is also good.”
That was the end of it.
In the car, Kieran started the engine and raised the soundproof glass at Anthony’s signal.
In the back seat, Callie immediately freed her hand. Nelson’s gaze fixed on her face. “You are not to get involved in matters between Jaquan and me anymore.”
“Do you think I want to be involved?” Callie retorted immediately. “Every time you drag me into it and then blame me afterward?”
“Can you say you never felt sympathy for Jaquan?” The man suddenly asked in a deep voice, hitting Callie’s heart directly.
She trembled. “That was because he helped me.”
Nelson stared at her for a long moment. “From now on, don’t concern yourself with Jaquan’s life or death. If something happens, I can’t protect you.”
Callie sat still and whispered, “Life or death? Do you really want his life?”
To his ears, her words sounded like blatant concern and defense.
