Chapter 689: Are You Going to Stand Up for Jaquan?

Regardless of success or failure, it was a good ending.
The attendant was somewhat shaken but couldn’t hide his fear.
Nelson said in a deep voice, “Go.”
The pressure was too strong, and the young man was almost pushed out.
The room quieted down. Nelson suddenly turned his head and looked at Callie. “Why aren’t you eating?”
She lowered her head. “Did you know from the beginning that this project would cause deaths?”
She didn’t want to ask in front of others, but after hearing what they said, she couldn’t hold back. That bit of conscience and anger quietly fermented.
She didn’t eat. Nelson took her bowl and tasted a bite himself. The taste wasn’t good.
“Anthony, have them change the dishes.”
Anthony observed the situation and responded, “Got it.”
The dishes on the table were immediately removed. Callie didn’t move and continued to ask, “You knew this project would have problems from the start, which is why you were angry about my involvement. So, did you plan it?”
This was an accusation.
Nelson had been tricked by Jaquan, so he wanted to return the favor.
Callie should have realized it earlier.
Corey glanced at Nelson’s calm face and answered for him, “Mrs. Oconnor, you misunderstood. Someone at the top accepted bribes and engaged in corruption on this project, which is why we knew Scott Group would inevitably have issues.”
“I’m asking him; I don’t need your answer!” Callie raised her voice and looked at Nelson.
Her anger quickly fermented when she thought of Elisha’s tragic death.
The weight of human life in their hands was just a tool to be used.
Corey clicked his tongue. This woman looked delicate but had a strong presence.
“I knew from the start.” Nelson lightly tossed the chopsticks in his hand onto the table, making a clinking sound. “What, are you going to stand up for your Jaquan?”
He actually thought she was doing it for Jaquan.
Callie’s chest heaved with anger. “Why didn’t you tell me from the beginning?”
“You took on this project without telling me either.”
The tension between the couple pulled at the empty room. No one dared to speak, and no one expected that Mrs. Oconnor, who looked petite, would dare to get angry at Nelson.
Callie began to regret it. Maybe she should have said something from the start, and she wouldn’t have witnessed Elisha’s death. “Besides this, is there anything else you’re hiding from me?”
That bit of suspicion was once again openly asked. She hoped he could be honest, but she forgot that with so many people present, Nelson couldn’t say anything.
The dishes were brought back. He picked up some food and put it in her bowl. “Try it again and see if it suits your taste.”
Callie closed her eyes.
Anthony entered the room. The door opened, and noise came from outside. “You dare to secretly film? Don’t want to work anymore!”
It was from the next room.
The attendant pouring wine for the leaders deliberately lingered for a while, and such a weird behavior was noticed.
The attendant was dragged to a corner, and specific people searched him from head to toe, finding a watch with a miniature camera inside.
So some people present panicked, and their actions became particularly harsh.
After a while of beating, Jaquan finished smoking a cigarette. He didn’t care much. “Enough. If you beat him to death, it won’t be easy to explain.”
The attendant had blood in his mouth. “Mr. Scott…”
“Who sent you?” someone asked.
“Who else could it be?” Jaquan stepped forward and lifted his chin with his foot. “You’re eating my food and working for someone else. Is that appropriate?”
“I… I was forced, Mr. Scott. I’m innocent!”
In the next second, Jaquan kicked him aside with a bang. “Get out.”
