Chapter 672 Someone Died

Jaquan pulled her to a deserted place before letting go of her hand. The bright lights revealed the marks on his face from being hit.
Callie looked up, panting and staring at him. She repeated, “Is it?”
“Yes!” Jaquan shouted angrily, the veins on his neck bulging. “They worked at night.”
Callie took a step back upon learning the truth. “Were the materials non-compliant?”
Jaquan turned his face away. “It’s meaningless to talk about that now.”
How could it be meaningless? Callie had handled many projects without any issues, but this one could potentially cost lives.
She looked into the distance at the collapsed ruins, a stark contrast to the brightness here.
“Why did you do this? You are married into the Ellison family and can’t be short of money. Why go this far?”
She kept pressing, wanting an answer from him.
Jaquan remained silent.
“A death during the New Year, Jaquan, do you know what that means?”
“So what? There are so many projects in Ylosea, across the country. How many deaths have there been? Even the Oconnor Group has its share of deaths. I can suppress this news!”
The man’s anger was uncontrollable. He punched a nearby structure, his knuckles bleeding.
“Oconnor Group?” Callie laughed in anger. “It’s because of the Oconnor Group’s past mistake that I strictly supervised this project out of our past alliance!”
But she didn’t expect them to secretly work at night.
The collapse shortly after completion clearly indicated the use of severely non-compliant materials from the start.
Callie felt disheartened. She tried desperately to save Jaquan, but he pushed himself into the fire pit.
No wonder the person in charge was so agreeable at that time; it was just to keep her calm.
Jaquan seemed momentarily surprised by her words, then sneered. “No matter what happened to the Oconnor Group, even if the Scott Group falls into a quagmire, it will rise again like Oconnor Group!”
Callie’s chest heaved with anger. It took her a while to calm down.
“You belittle yourself so much. You’ve asked if I would be your lover? Remember? Where’s your pride, where’s your confidence back then?”
The man’s eyes were exceptionally bright, filled with unresolved conflict.
“At first, Regan wanted to take over this project. I had concerns and asked if there were any issues. What did you say?”
Today’s situation was completely different from back then.
Jaquan turned around furiously and found a safety helmet from somewhere, placing it on her head. “I won’t let it spread. Tomorrow, everyone will still focus on a happy New Year!”
Callie was about to speak when he tightened the helmet on her head. “You don’t need to get involved. Pretend you weren’t here today and that you know nothing about this.”
“You!”
At that moment, a man rushed over from the ruins, sweating profusely and speaking weakly. “Mr. Scott, there’s someone…”
Callie shuddered, sensing Jaquan stiffen as well.
“Who?”
“Someone… someone recognized him. It’s Elisha from the construction team…”
“Is he alive?”
The man’s silence was his answer.
Callie screamed and pushed Jaquan away, running desperately towards the center of the ruins.
She pushed through the crowd and saw Elisha crushed under a massive stone, lying there in a horribly twisted position, lifeless.
Her stomach churned, and she turned around to vomit.
