In the backyard of the temple, Isaac waited nearby, idly observing Callie.
Callie felt a chill down her spine; his gaze was far from friendly.
“Sorry, I gave the bracelet you gifted me to someone else,” she said after some thought, deciding to speak up about it.
Sienna took a deep breath and looked at the bustling scenery below the mountain. “Once something is given to you, how you handle it is your business.”
Callie was momentarily speechless. Sienna looked at her. “Don’t regret your decisions.”
Her eyes were clear and perceptive.
For some reason, Callie felt afraid when facing Sienna now. “Is Mr. Ellison feeling better?”
Sienna averted her gaze. “If you don’t genuinely care, you don’t have to ask.”
Callie felt a bit choked up. In their previous meetings, although Sienna had kept her distance, there was still some cordiality. Now, it seemed all pretense was gone.
“You know me well,” Callie lowered her head.
“You are not someone who likes to flatter others. If there’s something you don’t want to do, don’t force yourself, like visiting Ahmad. Nelson and we have ties that can’t be severed; you are different.”
She spoke so plainly that it left no room for argument.
The connection between Nelson and the Ellison family was nothing more than Maevelyn.
Callie understood that Sienna wanted to exclude her. “Auntie, are you protecting me?”
There was compassion in Sienna’s eyes. Faced with such a question, she did not answer directly.
“Are you worried I might get hurt and want me to avoid too much involvement with the Ellison family?” It wasn’t narcissism; Callie also understood Sienna well.
“If that’s how you want to interpret it, you can,” Sienna said no more and turned to leave.
Callie stood in place, watching her walk away.
But Isaac did not follow; he continued to stare at Callie with eyes filled with venom.
Callie was not afraid and met his gaze.
Isaac stepped forward with his hands in his pockets and mocked, “I never thought Mrs. Oconnor had such skills, even having connections with my mother.”
Callie raised an angry eyebrow. “I do have skills, but yours are lacking. All you can do is hit women!”
“Are you looking for death?” Isaac was enraged. He raised his wrist, ready to strike.
Callie stepped forward. “Hit me. You’d better kill me because if you don’t, Nelson will send you to jail tomorrow!”
Her arrogance infuriated Isaac even more. “You bitch! You have a man backing you, so I can’t touch you. But Regan, if I find her, she won’t have a chance to be rescued by you again!”
Having been confined for months, Isaac was clearly frustrated, so much so that he no longer pretended to be the polite young master he once was but was now filled with violent tendencies.
Threatened by him, Callie grabbed his raised hand with all her strength. “Isaac, I warn you, if you lay a hand on Regan, I’ll send you to jail too!”
“You! I am now in charge of the Ellison family business. Do you understand? You can’t touch me!”
“So what? You still haven’t found Regan,” Callie taunted with a smile.
From his words, it was clear that since returning to Ylosea, he had not found Regan, which gave her some relief.
“You better hope I never find her!” Looking at her face, Isaac really wanted to slap her.
